I’ll be the contrarian… Welcome to the world where your device just works. No need to recompile the kernel with dodgy wifi drivers on every update. Was a Kubuntu user for years; wasted time daily, fighting with the os-disagreeing-with-the-hardware. Bought a MacBook, installed Homebrew, installed neovim and back to making a living with 12 hour battery life that beats the 2 hours on kubuntu with a fresh battery.
Note with the mac address you have to turn off the 'Private Wi-Fi Address' feature for your Wi-Fi network under settings, or it will keep changing the MAC address it broadcasts for privacy purposes .
Even though I am an apple user (MacBook laptop and iPhone) This made me laugh, especially with the comments and really does put privacy into perspective.
Not an Apple fanboy in any way, and coming from Android myself. But I bought an iPhone years ago and I absolutely love it. Not saying Android is bad or Apple is good, but in my usecase the iPhone just does what it needs to do. No apps or OS crashing. Never had an issue with it. It always worked.
In 2012 as teener I scratched together every penny I could find and bought my first iPad. My first Apple product. Best purchase ever of my entire life. It was insane what it enabled for me and the interest for the 'computer' itself dragged me into the tech world. After then using Windows machines for a few years, I let myself glide into the golden apple cage. Consciously and with open eyes. While I understand your reasons why you don't, the ecosystem is the best you can get. I'm certain I would have grey hair by now and would be generally much more frustrated if I would be working daily with Windows. I recently installed the Microsoft system for a family member. It doesn't let you install it without Microsoft account now without doing some weird stuff to get around that? And you get bombarded with candy crush ads? On an operating system? C'mon ...
I had a iPad Mini some years ago. I found it kinda useless as it was too locked down. The Apple "Experience" these days is getting to the annoyance level I bought a Pixel Phone with Graphene OS and intend to move everything off the iPhone onto there ditch apple altogether. Interested what you will be using the tablet for. I didn't quite catch it in the video (I am probably going deaf) though.
@@dave7244 It's open source, but Nextcloud wasn't to take a different direction to owncloud. Nextcloud is crammed with features, some of them are nice but shit tends to break and Nextcloud can be extructiatingly slow depending on your hardware and configuration.
Apple is a great hardware company. Like most hardware companies they write bad software that you can't customize and protect their terrible software with a paranoia worthy of Gollum.
"I feel so dirty" good one lol. iPads are useless with closed sandbox. Why did you not get an android tablet instead? Just curious what the ipad does differently vs. Cannot wait to see what you going to do with it.
I bought a iPad way back in 2005 or 6. I also bought the small music player, that could also play the radio. Today in 2024 .... I don't have another apple product and never will. While I really like the feel and fit and finish of the iPad I don't believe it's worth the cost ... The material is great I just don't think they're are ground breaking enough to justify the price. My dad, RIP, when he finally bought a computer in the 2000's sometimes was oh I gotta have an apple they don't ever get virus' and other hype. He had his computer in more times than I ever did upgrades on my own PC's and he wasn't there to upgrade hardware. He tried telling me that oh I need the video editing ... blah blah blah ( not once did he ever do that ). As for me. I won't buy another won't use an iPhone. Maybe I'll get another music player but ... meh phones do that know just fine and the radio stations that I listen to stream so .... What's the point of more crap cluttering up my pockets.
One thing i hate being "Family IT" person. Fucking phones and tablets. It was one of the reasons I brought iPhone for my say and say i don't know how you use android figure it our yourself. Don't like the company, but it gets the job done.
Nice, good job joining the dark side. I use apple, but it’s got no where near the functionality of an android device. Loved the comment, I feel so dirty.
Fucking hell, it's like installing Windows. Also I'm surprised it didn't come with opening instructions, given who usually buys Apple. Then again kids seem to like tearing things open and I suppose juvenile adults are probably the same.
I daily drive an iPhone, yes Apple is a scummy company, but in the mobile space they’re just simply better than the alternatives in most ways. Now in the laptop world I’d rather take a cheese shredder to my face…
Depends what you want from your device, it's the same with laptops. You have preferences that make Apple laptops intolerable, others have preferences for phones that make Apple phones intolerable.
The fact you need to sign in to an Apple account and add a mobile number, email address, and all this other crap is reprehensible. Last time I bought an Apple product all that shit could be skipped. Why the fuck does an iPad need you to give a phone number? Not everyone has a mobile phone. I thought the Apple TV requiring an iOS device to set it up out of the blue was dumbassery but this is another level of anti consumer garbage.
“Forgot password or don‘t have an AppleID?“ then select “Set up later“ not “Create a new AppleID”. You‘ve been there, it’s rather complex because it has three options to select from.
