Let's take a look at the Iwata Eclipse takumi The eclipse is a dual action, side feed, gravity assisted airbrush with a .35mm needle and nozzle. This makes it an excellent choice for a general use airbrush. Within this airbrush review I'll go over all the data I'd want to know before buying an airbrush including spray characteristics, air speed, and controllability.

Really have to thank you. I just started airbrushing again after 20 years and I got back into it really quickly thanks to your tutorials and tests. I bought the hp-cs and the gsi creos 771 and couldnt be happier. Might get this one in the future.

@@theartworkshop Are there knock off versions of this being sold, as the cup spout connector seems to have very little weld under the chrome and jams in the side of the Takumi readily with no input force.

I got this airbrush too, it’s basically a variant of hp-cs (side-fed, shorter and paint stop etc) and hence it inherits all the merit of hp-cs such as the versatility to different paints. One complaint is that paint would find its way to the cup thread every time. And the red o-ring on the cup thread may not be solvent-resistant. I’ve ordered several teflon rings and will try replace the original o-ring once they arrive.

@8allan463
@8allan463 Год назад
Just a follow-up, I ended up getting a ptfe gasket and place it in the cup base instead of the cup (like what H&S infinity does). In this way the paint will be stopped before it reaches the cup thread. Another RU-vidr mentioned the imbalance issue of the Takumi, it can be slightly improved by replacing with the H&S 5 ml cup. The 5ml cups from Iwata and H&S look almost identical but the one from H&S is noticeably lighter. There is a 5 ml plastic cup in the market which is much lighter but you’ll have to file it's button a little bit so that it can fit in together with the additional ptfe gasket.

@@8allan463 I use a H&S 2mil cup and sometimes 5mil cup with my cm takumi since day one ( never used the cup that came with it) and still get a small amount of paint in the threads, especially with over reduced paints. also as a side note the cups from the neo fit the takumi.

Kool product review, I use IWATA siphon feed airbrushes and I’ve been airbrushing since the mid 80’s. My IWATA airbrush of choice is the IWATA HP-BC and HP-BCS ( Eclipse). Though I’ve owned a couple of IWATA gravity fed air brushes I’ve rarely used them but I noticed the unique trigger design on the IWATA Takumi and did my research and found that the Eclipse Takumi trigger also works with the IWATA eclipse HP-BCS and enhances both the comfort and trigger control of the airbrush. I recently purchased an IWATA eclipse HP-BCS 6 pack and just a few days ago I decided to purchase 6 IWATA Takumi Eclipse triggers to replace the standard OEM trigger found on the IWATA eclipse HP-BCS. This is not what I call a cheap modification as the Takumi trigger alone retails for $31.50 each but I was able to find them discounted online : Iwata Replacement Part I-612-4 Main Lever for $21.38 each but I believe the benefits of the added IWATA Takumi trigger for me personally out weigh the cost, and it’s possible that you will too.Give the IWATA Eclipse Takumi trigger a try, you won’t be disappointed.🏆
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop Год назад
that is awesome man! I agree with you that this new trigger is much more comfortable and has better grip. I just wish iwata's prices were better though, bc $32 for a trigger seems too high for me.

@@theartworkshop I wish IWATA showed the siphon feed design more attention in their line up. They and most airbrush brands use to years ago…when textile illustration/design was immensely popular. I guess not so much today though? 😳🤔

New to the airbrush world here. Bought a couple cheap knockoffs and have been noodling around with them. My question is are the needle and guides interchangeable on this model and what sizes would you recommend having around? Thanks for the review, I’ve decided on getting a side feed due to my hand position.
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop Год назад
Smart move! It's a good idea to test out some cheap airbrushes before getting a good one. Iwata airbrushes aren't meant to have interchangeable nozzles and needles. You can buy separate ones and get them to fit, but they weren't designed for this. I would just get a normal airbrush like this Iwata with a .35 and just stick with that. Surprising how versatile a .35 airbrush is.

I created this design in 2016 and presented it. Only to iwata. They said they were not interested. I cut up a regular eclipse hp-sbs and glued it back together and it sprayed perfect. The idea was to be able to touch the surface while painting. If you needed to. I even posted videos on youtube showing how it worked .

Can we put the rear handle from that eclipse takumi to the eclipse hp-cs? I love the cutout with the limiter but it’s not available as an optional accessory for the hp-cs. They only have either the cutout or the limiter rear handle. And while you’re at it, does takumi’s trigger trigger on hp-cs? I might transform the hp-cs 🤨

If you add a drop of paint/water in the little takumi cup, does it flow into the body of the airbrush or does it stay in the cup by some sort of seal? Maybe an odd question to you, but valuable to me
@CorruptName1
@CorruptName1 2 месяца назад
I know this is an old question but the answer is that it stays in the cup until you pull back the trigger. Not because of a seal but because there is air in the tube and the paint cannot displace it. Perhaps if you shake it around it would go into the body but not naturally. Hope this helps! This is from my experience with Micron Takumi and not the Eclipse Takumi so I could possibly be wrong here.

Hi there. Could I ask a question that I’m getting mixed feedback from various RU-vid posting on the danger of using enamel paints in model. I’m about to buy an airbrush preferably a good one like the eclipse but certain sources give the impression that enamel paints and the thinners that you use to clean the airbrush afterwards eventually destroy the seals which are very expensive apparently to repair/replace. I’d prefer to get the Iwata brand. Be grateful if anyone who knows including the creator of this excellent site could reply. Thanks ahead for any feedback 👍
@jonmurphy9424
@jonmurphy9424 Год назад
I have not heard of enamel thinners causing problems to your seals.
@theartworkshop
@theartworkshop Год назад
Yes, solvents and enamel thinners will damage rubber seals and o-rings. The won't affect any PTFE (teflon) ones those since those are solvent proof. I used to use enamels all the time, but found modern acrylics to be much better (stronger too) for what I do.
