You dodged a bullet not getting the Monte Mart gesso. Liquitex clear gesso is so good for priming surfaces for pencil.

Remember that gouache is a water-soluble medium. If you keep the lid tight, they shouldn't dry out too much, but you can re-activate them with water too. Get a little spray bottle and spritz. They're basically a type of watercolor, so they're never really "permanent" unless you seal them. (This is also why a lot of WC artists don't wash their palettes, the paint dried on it can still be used.)

Neocolor 1 is like a typical crayon, where the Neocolor 2 are water soluble. Definitely go for the Neocolor 2. They are versatile enough that they can be used as a standard crayon, as watercolor, and when you sharpen them put the shavings in a palette so you don't waste all that pigment.

you don't have to worry about the jelly gouache drying out, it's like a loved child between acrylic and watercolor, you can reactivate it with water

I'm not the greatest with oil pastels, BUT my tip is from my experience as an artist and a mom. If your tiny artists get into the oil pastels and the walls, desks, tables, etc become the canvas, hair dryer and low set heat tools can be used to warm the pastels and allow them to be wiped off with just a baby wipe once warmed enough. Be careful not to burn yourself or the surface.

Mungyo oil pastels are great. Not as expensive as Sennelier but probably one of the best. The flower drawing looking so good!!!

I personally love working with watercolour pencils because you can use them in a variety of ways and make something really lovely with just a set of pencils. I only have a couple of small sets but have always enjoyed them. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your sets!!

I freaking love the Faber-Castell watercolor pencils. I love that they match the Polychromos so its easy to color match and add pencil layers on top if you want. I haven't tried the Caran D'ache ones but I do have the Neocolors II and will join everyone else saying you should try them.

If you're interested in oil pastels, Blackbean CMS has a wonderful channel where he works beautifully with the medium. If I remember correctly, he loves the Sennelier, and the Mungyo Gallery (The Gallery line in particular, not the whole brand!) oil pastels, though mostly uses Crayola to be cost effective!

Wow what a haul! Get yourself the Neocolor II if you can Sarah, they're INCREDIBLY pigmented and melt the second you add water! ❤️

Hi, Sarah. You certainly did choose the best watercolour pencils! They'll take time to learn about them, but are great fun, and being able to use them both wet and dry is a bonus - though dry, obviously, they aren't the same as regular CD / AD pencils. Where they are they same is that they benefit from layering several layers of colour before wetting. Pressing down to get the intensity leaves marks in the paper which can't be resolved. So in that sense, when using them dry, use them as you would when blending wax / oil based pencil.. One very good tip I recently learned (having used w/c pencils for many years!) is to add two or three drops of glycerin per 100mls to the water you use, and stir well. It acts by making the colour spread beautifully evenly - even Albrecht Durer and Museum work better this way. Please don't take this the wrong way, as this doesn't only apply to you, and isn't meant unkindly. Yes, I enjoyed this fun video, but it doesn't sit well with me to see RU-vidrs spend so much. I began to breathe again when you began to evaluate what you were buying. To put it in a personal context, I love to experiment with different mediums, and I've done it all my art-life, and been able to offer informed advice to my students as a result. I've never had a problem with buying to my budget until recently, when I began watching RU-vid videos, and suddenly, 'I want' became quite a demon to control., with Amazon being there to go and look, and then click to buy... Also, I read with great concern when I see viewers commenting that they've immediately ordered something they've just seen used for the first time. It would help people like them, and me, enormously if we saw the RU-vidrs using the products they've bought over future videos, rather than having bought them for a 'haul' and we never see them again. It's one reason that I voted for you to continue to learn to use the acrylics and to share the process with us, when my preference (you may have guessed) is watercolour and watercolour pencils. I'm really hoping that you will understand what I'm trying to say. I'd rather see the artist use the product and show us about it than the art haul in all its glory. Though again, I admit that I enjoy the fun when you do these crazy things . You've certainly got enough to show us some real working experience with all the new things - including those things you bought with the keys - that is a definite "Oh, I could use those!" issue with me, and I have to remind myself that I'm not currently doing children's clubs, so don't actually need them!

I use FC Pitt Artist Pens (brush) in my colouring books - they blend quite well. They're waterproof, India ink based pens (markers) and they don't bleed through most paper. They blend much better than Tombow-type markers as the ink seems to not absorb into the paper as quickly. Bonus - they colour-match with all the rest of the FC line. :) Downside - there are only 60 colours. I wish FC would come out with more!

Can't wait to see you putting those supplies to use. I'm looking forward to the watercolor pencils the most (and how they compare to the Inktense ones) and the oil pastels. I think I used oil pastels at some point as a child, at least I seem to remember how it feels to use those just watching you try them out. Also, I have to admit, as a german I did giggle a bit at your attempts to pronounce Albrecht Dürer - but yeah, that name is a handful (or rather mouthful) for those whose first language isn't german ^^

I once drew a car for an ex with oil pastels. It was my first time really using them and I was SO proud of the outcome! This was about 20 years ago now and the last time I used them too, so I don't remember much, but I do remember loving how they blended! Many people hate the texture, but I felt it was worth it to get the reflective surfaces to look right. Good luck on your journey.

I would also recommend the cretacolor watercolor pencils too.

I got Paul Rubens pastels and a black sketchbook recently and it’s such a good combination, some aren’t very opaque but the deeper colours you get mix so well with white that it doesn’t matter.

I have the Neocolor II's and absolutely love them! I haven't tried the Neocolor I yet, but hope to soon! I would love to see what you create with those. A completely mixed media piece of art would be so much fun to watch! This was such a fun video!

I would love to see more watercolor pencil drawings! But if you feel like spending more, consider buying waterbased markers like tombows, you can dilute these too with water (or even scribble on some plasic/glass and pick the pigment up with a watery brush to paint)

Neocolor I Caran Dáche are fantastic for layering using heat. They are encaustic crayons. They are not the water soluble ones. They work on fabric and fuse to wood nicely. I create underpaintings often then layer clear wax onto them and go in all sorts of directions from there.

I LOVE watercolour pencils! And Albrect Druer are my absolutely completely totally favourite! These are sooooo highly pigmented! I’m really excited to use mine on all the wonderful colouring sheets I bought from your shop 🥰🎨💜 I’m so excited!!!

Oil Pastels are fun. As an added bonus you can actually use linseed oil after you have colored with them to make it like oil paint. At least the ones I have you can.

Oil pastels are fairly fun to use, I usually use a q-tip, paper towel or my finger to blend but I've heard using a blending stump works well too

This video makes me so happy. I have most of these things. I went on an art binge a few years ago. I have something from each medium. Still haven’t touched much of it ( have 2 kids now) but seeing someone else get excited for these products like me is awesome.

For oil pastels, you can use white spirit/ turpentine on it to basically paint with it!

I ended up getting the water-based Karin markers too, instead of the acrylic ones. I’ve only really used the Cray Pas brand of oil pastels as that’s the brand we used in elementary school art class.

as someone who uses oil pastels I actually tend to use both Faber castell, Sennelier, and Pentel. Both of them have their pros and cons, the Faber castell and Sennelier ones are generally of higher quality and have more pigment and less waxiness, making them much more opaque on base and smooth. The cheaper pentel ones have merit to being more waxy and solid, its better to shave those to a point if you need fine details because their cheaper and hold a point a bit better and they take longer to build up if thats needed, though ive noticed more with the cheaper ones that some colors will act different than each other more so than the more expensive ones. I do have to add, that I have tried the crayola pastels too and they tend to work less well with other brands than the pentel ones and certain pigments can act really weird in the crayola set.

Oil pastels are glorious to use. I have not used them for some time but used them a lot at art school. The blending is so satisfying and is what got me into using wax for my art.

I have the cogs/gears/keys myself - I bought them to use in resin products and jewellery making and they're so cool to make some steampunk style earrings/bracelets etc. I absolutely *hate* oil pastels! It's totally a sensory issue but the smell and the way they feel going on the paper makes my skin crawl!

The Albrecht Durer water color pencils are the first set I've owned because I bought one pencil in each brand and that one is by far the best. JUST COLOR without water and they are still the best.

I would love to watch you learn and explore watercolor! Also, while I don't know how jelly gouache compares to regular gouache paints, I wanted to reassure that gouache reactivates just like watercolor does ;) I made half pans from my tubes of gouache and have a wonderful ready to use palette 😀

I love the idea of the mixed media piece at the end. I'm always so unsure where to start with a mixed piece.

try to blend using paper towels they mix really well also note to underline the sketch before coloring as these pastels are really vibrant and opaque so HOPE IT HELPS,

Really want to see you use the faber castell watercolor pencils and the oil pastels!! Of course I really want to see you use watercolors as well! Sennelier has really nice paints as does white nights which are really good for being quite inexpensive

For oils pastel, you can blend them using either your finger (good contrôle)but you can also use Therebentine , white spirit or other oil (each have their personnality, more free, but be aware of fume, or you can get high). Différent brands will have different texture, sennelier is really creamy, but expensive for example. You can layer, like oils paint, less oily crayons below and work your way until the creamiest. I really enjoy them ! Love from France

Oil pastel is my favorite medium. Sennelier is artist quality. Pretty much works on any material, glass, wood, paper etc. Caran d'Ache and Mungyo are other popular brans.

I would love to see videos on everything that you bought! Especially the Water color pencils!

You could try dissolving the oil pastel off the tip of the marker with some alcohol based solvent (such as metho or even gamsol )on a piece of cotton and wiping the marker tip until it is clean. I can’t promise it will work 100%, but it might, so you still end up with a usable marker rather than a definitely ruined one.

I like the Albrecht Durer Pencils but I can't recommend it for myself already because I'm quite rookie for watercolor pencils, so I bought the Faber Castell Goldfaber Aqua Watercolor Pencils instead.

Mungyo oil pastels are absolutely my favorite they are pretty good in price and are absolutely beautiful I recommend them to anyone who uses oil pastels or wants to get into them. They are so vibrant and creamy and are a great alternative to Sennelier! 💕

Oil pastels can be used in few different ways. I use them in combination with coloured pencils. You can blend with oil pastel (usually a lighter coloured one or a clear one), folded paper (kitchen roll is good), a blending stump or your finger. Use softer oil pastels for this sort of blending. Sennelier are the softest, but the Paul Rubens are absolutely awesome for blending. I am relearning to blend using PRs, and my right hand. They mostly don't have any light-fastness ratings, so I'll need to do that myself before using them professionally. I used to blend with my fingers. But I realised I was left-handed at blending after a life-changing injury to my shoulder and elbow. Despite being right-handed for drawing. 🤷‍♀️ Now, I use firmer oil pastel (like the faber-castell ones) - and less of it - then use pencils over the top. Like other artists who use chalk pastels with pastel pencils over. For work that I intend to sell, I use Van Gogh (Royal Talens) oil pastels because they have reliable lightfast ratings and list the pigments on the pastel. I generally use polychromos or pablo over the top. I also use luminance/derwent lightfast alongside, either alone or with polychromos or pablo over. Depends on the picture. I may also use the white Paul Rubens over the top, for example to make a sea-spray effect. The white is LF1. 😁 For work that is for fun or will be scanned only, I can also use cray-pas expressionists, the faber-castell ones you have and pentel as my base layer. I use a whole range of pencils over the top including the less-lightfast polychromos, pablo and lyra, and my black widows. I am beginning to use the Paul Rubens for this too. If I'm using them with other oil pastels, I will use the harder/firmer ones underneath and the softer ones on top. The nicest oil pastels I have are definitely my Paul Rubens because they blend together so well. 😁 To fix the oil pastel, I use MTN acrylic matt varnish spray. It works really well - far better than any of the oil pastel fixatives, which all leave the surface tacky. The MTN forms a layer over the top of the oil pastel, sealing it in. This is the same as the glassine does, or the glass in a picture frame. Oil pastel never truly dries. This covering layer stops dust/hair/etc from sticking to the oil pastel layer, and stops crumbs of oil pastel from falling off the picture onto your surfaces. I love my Neo 1’s. I use them on backgrounds all the time. I love my Neo 2’s as well.

The gold leaf is beautiful - used historically by calligraphers- I would love to see how you incorporate it into your colouring. Also keen to see you use the watercolour pencils.

I've heard a lot of good things about Molotow's Sketcher markers as far as water-based markers go! also, I have jelly gouache and use it a ton, if they dry out you can just spray them with water and mix them up with a toothpick and they'll be literally as good as new, no need to worry about opening them early!

I'm pretty sure the Caran D'ache water soluble pastels are the same makeup artists uses at kids events ! You should try some facepaint video xD

Use paper towel folded small to blend oil pastels. It really helps 🩷

You will love the Karin markers. I have the whole set and they are my favorites. You can use with a little water and a paint brush as well.

Oh what fun you have had! I can see alot of forward planning went into the buying order. I agree with the Mungyo people, I have their watercolour crayons, they are great. Mungyo generally have good reviews, and would be a great starting point to get into pastels, watercolour crayons etc, without spending huge money. Otherwise enjoy your haul. I can see alot of interesting stuff coming soon with the ideas generated by the stuff you got!

For the oil pastels you can smudge them to blend colours

Also a note on the Caran D'ache neocolors, I believe there are two types - Neocolor I's, which are permanent, and Neocolor II's, which are watersoluable. It looks like you've got the permanent ones. I'm really excited to see how you get on with them, and also how they compare to the oil pastels since they are wax based.
