The Orient and Citizen watches are actually quality time pieces, The Seiko 5, Orient Bambino and several Citizen Eco Drives are actually often recommended as an entry into watch collecting, Rolex and Omegas are not always necessary for a good collection, it's usually about the company and their history, Citizen for example is a reputable Japanese watch maker that uses in house quartz movements used in other, more expensive time pieces (Citizen makes the Miyota movement that you may see on the description of some watches), Orient is an independent subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corp that also makes their own in house movements (in this case automatic), Seiko makes great watches at all price points, including the skx809 that retails for around $50 and manufactures the widely used NH movement. Haute Horology isn't about the price point, it's about heritage, even a $30 Timex has heritage behind it since Timex is a respected brand among enthusiasts. Cheap watches are great man! Just please don't spend them on fashion watches, those are worth much less than the price even at deep discounts. The Orient is definitely a great bargain though.
Armani, Lacoste etc make decent and stylish watches that'll last 4-5 years. A lot of people don't care about the history of watch companies. I like citizen watches and find Timex watches dated looking. To each his own. Maybe these " history oriented " watch companies should make interesting designs and bring their expertise not just to a few bambinos or indiligos. Well, to each his own. I'd get a Seiko 5, but those cost triple their selling price in US
Wilbert Castillo I must add that citizen make a model that’s the most accurate in the world , think it’s around a second a year , and mega money , check it out on google cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Bingo. I heard that brands like MVMT and Daniel Wellington just bulk buy $5 Chinese watches, re-packages and sells them for $100+. Some even have plastic movements. My advice is stay away from fashion watches. They’re typically junk, and for the same money you can get into a great Seiko, Orient, or Citizen, even Casio has some really cool offerings with great tech for not a ton of money. There’s definitely a difference between “cheap” and affordable.
you restored some faith when you showed the orient and citizen watch... now those are real nice watches! not all nice watches are expensive, they just need to be well made... brands like seiko, citizen, orient are the top watch brands that are affordable! look into these before buying fashion watches!
I get the whole designer brand hate thing but my Fossil automatic is the sturdiest in my collection and I have 3 citizen watches, 2 seiko watches, and Tag.
Charles Gregory seiko , have an undeserved reputation in my opinion, the last 3 I’ve bought have out of alignment issues , there QC department must have restricted vision , cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
@@shaneweightman Seiko is a different league compared to citizen but I gotta admit their QnQ are fine watches. Still works after my dad gave em to me (25~ years)
Dude, I one hundred thousand percent agree with you. I have 4 of those watch boxes. 40 watches so far. Most from EBAY and most between $25 to $60. Most people think I paid HUNDREDS for each watch. I change watches everyday. They call me TikTok at work 🤣
I wear a Casio Databank. $20 at Walmart. Keeps perfect time and holds phone numbers, has a stop watch and a timer, and also has a button driven dial light for checking the time in dark theaters. It doesn't impress anybody but who gives a shit?
I own Omegas, Rolexes, and Seikos. My opinion is that there is nothing wrong with an inexpensive watch IF it is from a respectable brand like Seiko, Citizen, Orient, Hamilton, Bulova, Victorinox or Tissot. However, fashion watches like Fossil, Burberry, Lacoste, MK or any other designer are absolute garbage. These are low quality quartz movements in low quality cases made in China by underpaid workers that simply have a designer name on the dial. Instead of getting a bunch of crappy designer watches, get yourself a decent Seiko or Hamilton Mechanical watch for $200 to $500 - it will last a lifetime.
+chillwill120 I agree with you for the most part but burberry did release a watch called the britain (i think?) which is more intended as a luxury watch. I like the looks of those actualy and they have a swiss made automatic movement
+chillwill120 Agreed, I've 2 rolexes but enjoy wearing my Mido, quite an unknown brand and semi-luxury entry level automatic watch (Like Tissot). No more designers watches for me. I do have a confession to make though, I like my Apple Watch Sport, not for the brand or look, just because how useful it can be.
exactly. Who wants to wear watch for 20 years? I bought 12$ Casio recently and I simply love it! I also have a bunch of other watches ,different price range, but nothing wrong with cheap watches.
prokletajeamerika: Nothing wrong with cheap watches indeed! Believe it or not, but I have a $10 watch that I wear just as much as my Omega Seamaster 600 or Tudor Hydronaut. (dobro ti to ime, druze)
Just because you are buying a $400 watch for $40 on eBay doesn't mean you're "eBay sniping...." It means the actual value is $40. Also, a $40 Seiko is 1000x better quality than a $40 Burberry.
ImTaylorGang not everyone like the design of seiko etc.. get over it! U buy watches to tell time and to impress people because it looks good on u, not something u wear and people like dont care what brand it is because it just looks like cheap stainless steel strap chinese watches while they are actually not.. they are from big names like seiko, omega and rolex
news flash-people who are into a hobby recommend what's best. there's always the stupid consumer who buys garbage stuff and avoids the advice from people who know more and are more seasoned in a certain area. but hey you're right about the buying whatever you want part. feel free to waste money and regret your purchase later on to your own discretion.
They are NOT cheap for its value. In fact they are too expensive made in China quartz watches with designers badge on the dials. If you want inexpensive but great quality watch, get seiko SARB/SARX/SARG series. Or if you into diving watch get Seiko SBD series like sumo, shogun, tuna etc. I'd rather get a G-SHOCK $200 watches than any of those. At least it will last maybe 20 years or more.
Eddie Alvarez Or go with a quality vintage watch, like a Bulova, Seiko, Wittnauer, etc. Many of his cheap quartz watches have similar styles to the vintage watches that are superior in quality, they also look good and are cheaper!
Actually, I have some mediocre watches that I have already worn for 15 years and are still working perfectly, but I think they are Japanese movement, not Chinese.
Not gonna hate on you for buying watches that you like the look of. I'm a big fan of Orient too, you should check out some of Seiko's offerings as well. Both brands are affordable watches that are still well-respected by snobs like me because they have fantastic workmanship and great in-house movements.
if you stop calling them cheap watches and start calling them what they are - reasonably priced watches, you'll go a long way toward legitimizing your collection in the haters eyes. There's nothing at all wrong with a reasonably priced watch as long as it does the job for you you want it to do. More power to you on your watch journey! Oh, and an Orient Bambino (about $130) is as much watch as 95% of people will ever need - it is such a good watch!
i found a seiko at goodwill for $10 in 2007 and its still ticking on the original battery, and its one of those watches that no matter how you try to type in the model #'s on the back, ive never found a picture of it online lol
@@Turismo860 I found that with my Accurist. If It;s Quartz you l will probsbly find that 1 number is the battaery you need, and 1 number will be the movement the watch contains. you don't seem to get a watch model number ever written on a watch.
You can get a ton of Orient or Seiko automatic watches that are horologically respectable easily between 70- 200 dollars. Ex Orient Banbino (150 ish), Seiko SNK809 (50-70). There is no need for a cheap watch to be just a fashion watch
Jmack1lla Ahhh very nice, speaking of blue watches, I just picked up a vintage Seiko from the 60s or 70s on ebay for 30 bucks, that is also a good place to get a quality piece for cheap, the vintage market, it just depends on whether or not youre into the worn look
Have a look at the Orient Bambino, 1st or 3rd gen, they cost like $130 and automatic. You don't have to spend 500-600-2000 on a nice looking automatic watch anymore ( Seiko, Orient).
Personal email congratulations you're watching 100 times better than his whole collection other than the Orient and the citizen but you still got a really good watch on your hands
I don't know about you, but i can spot a Edox, Atlantic or Frederique Constant from a few meters away just by having a short glance at your wrist (and i'm not talking here about the big league Patek Philippe or Vacheron Constantin) and i'm not even a watch 'guru'. The watch is the most important accessory that a man can wear and it says a lot about him. I'd rather have 2 good watches and look good than 10 cheap watches and look bad. This video is so revolting because there is no way you can not tell the difference between a good watch and a bad watch! It's like wearing a raincoat and saying it's a Armani suit. If you can't afford at least a decent entry level watch like Seiko or Orient, then don't wear one.
I agree with most of what you’re saying. I started out buying a style watch (MVMT), which I knew was overpriced but I liked the look. 2.5 yrs later, it still works and keeps excellent time, though it’s falling apart! The big thing with these style watches (MVMT, Daniel Wellington, etc) is that most of them cost several times what they’re worth and can be found much cheaper on eBay or under a different name on Amazon if you’re willing to look. I’ve moved on to buying better watches though I can’t afford the likes of Rolex, Breitling and Omega, but there are lots of good quality watches for very reasonable prices. Orient, Timex and Seiko all make good watches started at about $30! You can, if you like, have a nice quality collection for $100 each. It just depends on what you want. I absolutely agree with you that people should buy watches they like within their budget, and laugh in the face of any watch snob who criticizes your choices!
MarkNUK, in my opinion, it's one of the best. If you're not rude and don't claim to be what you aren't, they'll almost always guide you to the best possible options. I'm extremely new to watches and horology, but I understand why they would not like most fashion brands, as they genuinely are really bad for their price. Anyone could easily get a nice respectable, automatic watch from a company with horological history for £100 or less(which is generally the price for fashion watches).
I own a few casio/gshocks. I recently bought a nice looking affordable orient quartz watch, I loved the way it look and I'm happy with it. Watch experts/collectors will almost always advise you to get mechanical/automatics but if you enjoy your quartz then just do so, it won't make you inferior. Just avoid knockoffs
Instead of having many 20-500$ watches I would recommend buying one decent mechanical watch. If you get the right one it will keep its value like money in the bank, and if you get it pre owned it will be the best deal. Buy Swiss made, automatic or manual wind, and if it is affordable it is not worth it. In watches quality always goes before quantity.
I too have been buying watches. I have been buying inexpensive automatics. I am intrigued with the beauty of automatic movements. My choices so far are the Orient Ray, Orient Bambino, Seiko 5, and my most treasured.....the Seiko Sarb033. All incredible value suggestions.
I agree you've got to buy what you like and feel comfortable with, at the end of the day you are the one who is wearing it, don't let other people influence your own decision.
came from a twitter argument 😂 but anyways i agreed with the other guy, you can get same quality watches for prices below $10, Ali Express is the place. no hate tho just saying
i own 2 Fossil watches.. ive had no problem with them.. they look good, and they keep the time accurately.. after reading some of the comments, everyone has their own opinion.. if u wanna spend $1000 on a watch, then u go ahead.. im fine with spending $150 or less.. and still having a watch that does the same thing yours do.. and thats to tell time, and show me the date.. precisely!
slikdarelic I have had a few timex expedition models and the first one I had was coated with grease from my friends job and I still have it...... that was 5 years ago and he had it for a while before giving it to me and you spend a lot more than I do (cool) and I don’t care about the price because mine were $30 each and I am an active person so they are just for like camping and mountain biking so the cheap timex ones are perfect as I have yet to destroy one lol
Contrary to popular belief, you DON'T have to spend $1000 or more for a decent quality timepiece. The problem with these overpriced "fashion" watches -- i.e. Michael Kors, Gucci, Kenneth Cole, etc -- is that they are cheaply mass produced in China using basic quart movement, and then sell them at a ridiculously marked up prices. Just do a little research on watches and you'll appreciate the history of horology. There are many reputable online retailers that you can buy watches from heritage brand that are a fraction of their retailer prices. I just recently purchased a Hamilton Chronograph from around $550 that is retail at $1,200 or more. Don't spend $150 on a Daniel Wellington, MVMT, Vincero, Fossil, or any other "fashion watches", and then throw them away 1 or 2 years later because their build quality are terrible. Use that $150 to buy yourself an entry level automatic mechanical movement from Seiko, Orient, Citizen, or any other mid range Swiss heritage brand. Some of their entry level automatic watches are now less than $100. Better yet, don't spend $300 for two fossil watches, instead, use that money to buy a Sarb series from Seiko or other watches in the same price range. These watches will last you for over 25-30 years, and with a little tune up, you can pass it down to your children as a memento item. That's what timepieces are for.
VFS you clearly didn't get the whole idea of this video. He buys what he likes because he doesn't care about watch history. He has an Orient and a Citizen and he has some fashion watches. Why do you think someone necessarily paid $300 for a Fossil. I have 2. One I got for $40 at TJ Maxx and one I got at a white elephant sale at my church for $1. If they crap out I don't care.
Thomas Flynn well i Think its ok if u like ur cheap watches. but U have to understand that for a watchguy its all about the Details. And they will Never find the satisfaction in China Garbage that u find. Dont be mad u are probably more Happy with ur watchbudget than a watchguy :)
From a certain price point all watches are very good quality watches. You pay for brand names and exclusivity beyond that. Personally I really like mechanical watches for the way they work. And I want my watch to have sapphire glass if possible. Just for durability. With those guidelines, you can still find plenty of nice genuine watches for under 400$ new.
what you have to remember is the resale. a $2000 omega will be worth $1500 or so after a few years. the $400 burberry will be almost worthless in secondary market. an omega also wont scratch or scuff nearly as easily as a cheaper watch. its like buying a bmw vs. leasing a honda - ultimately, up to buyer preference
loved the video mate , and as what my friends consider a watch snob ( me ) i agree with you on all the topics . especially that , yes i get very scared to walk back home at night , if i am wearing my omega or 5980 . i might fall and break or scratch it . i might get mugged . so i started buying these cheap watches , like less than 50 $ . and i must say , right now , for every expensive watch i have , probably have 4 cheap ones . so many styles and designs , and colours and added benefit of it not hurting much if you break it or scratch it . good luck mate . awesome video . keep it up .
I'm with you on caring most about what you like. I used to do the same thing, but upped my game with buying affordable, but decent quality automatic or solar (like your eco-drive). Don't get stuck on any name. Like others have said though... Seiko, citizen even Timex put out some decent watches. I recommend looking for mineral glass or sapphire crystals as a key buying point
It doesnt matter 90% of the time. But if you work in banking, show business,etc...you might come of as a cheap ass.But i do agree with you 90% of what you say,if you like it then buy it,no matter what price.
You need to buy watches by proper watch companies not designer watches. Seiko, Citizen, Orient even Pulsar they make some inexpensive watches with their own movements far superior to your Burbary dross.
I find it odd that someone who claims to be 'into watches' has a bunch of designer brand pieces. What about Seiko or Citizen or Hamilton - All relatively inexpensive watches that are actually made by companies that specialize in making watches and have a bit of a history behind them.
The man literally said "diversity because they're cheap" it's fashion not about spending 200-500$ for something clearly high quality especially when you don't have 200-500$ to drop on a watch
JP DeadassB Don't have 200-500 bucks to drop on a decent watch? His collection is probably priced at around 600-1000 bucks. Definitely would be able to if he cared about time pieces rather than just fashion.
Mad respect for acknowledging that these watches are fashion watches thus lower quality but you enjoy the style so you dont care. Props for that. Many youtubers are oblivious and think like a Kors watch is the best quality and crap and actually try to get their viewers to get that for a crazy price over like a Seiko... so mad props for understanding. And yes Ebay is a damn blessing and a curse haha. I have gotten wayyyy too many watches bc I couldnt pass up these insane deals. Hah.
I agree with your watch opinions mate, good video. Time piece, watch sobs are so annoying. I am from London and have a lot of Accurist watches (British made with Quartz movement) some are really nice and under £100. I have a couple of Eco drives and a few Casio's, G-Shock, Calculator, world time. I have only one watch which sobs may not laugh at and it's my wedding/job interview watch, it's only a Seiko.
$300 dollar watches come with sapphire crystal faces which are next to impossible to scratch, trust me im very clumsy. 1k-10k dollar watches are usually tanks.
I'm with you man! First, if you lost this watches you will not feel so bad. 2nd, if it stop working you can change it right away because you have a lot to chose from your collection. 3rd, you can chose which one looks good with your attire or color of your clothes. You can look at the mirror and you can see what wristwatch fits your mood too!
Philip McAuley download ebay app or go to ebay.co.uk, search for desired item, find it and press at to basket, go to basket and press check out and fill out your information
Orient are great watches. Very well made with Japanese pride. The dress watch range is on point. That to the divers range. Possibly the best bang for buck for quality. And citizen are a very trusted name in watches.
I just buy a Kronen & Söhne Imperial Series KS237-1 automatic on eBay and it looks pretty neat and classic design. You don't need a battery but to wind it & use it every day, like the old times. I like it very much.
Affordable automatic watches that will last a lifetime. Orient Bambino Orient Mako Vostok Seiko 5 Series Seiko SKX Hamilton Khaki King Steinhart Ocean 1 Squale 1521 All are great watches with dependable movements and great history and following that all watch enthusiasts can appreciate. Some of the higher priced ones listed even have sapphire crystals that are very durable and nearly scratch resistant behind only to diamond. Just a few to consider.
Please do a video on eBay, I keep hearing about people getting great deals yet whenever I looked for something I could never find a better price than Amazon for example.
Great collection ! A watch tells time so if you can read the time on your watches then they are doing the job they were made for. Don't worry about the haters enjoy your watches. Peace
I agree with him about if you like a watch that's £100 and you think it looks great, buy it because YOU like it don't worry about what others are wearing.
scrapethebottom Are you talking about the skx specifically or seiko in general? cause I swear the sarbs have better bracelets and cases than any 5 digit submariner.
I like you buy the watches that I like the looks of. I try to buy mid-market used watches. Not high end, not cheap, but the appearance is # 1 criteria. Thanks for sharing.
my Bulova is awesome. I do believe citizen makes nice watches and that Eco-Drive is nice that it's powered by light to keep ticking longer than a quartz watch wood.
Massively late to the party, but here it goes anyway: Totally agree with Wilbert Castillo's comment and was actually thinking the same thing as I watched the video. If you do your research, and with RU-vid and review web pages there's no excuse not to, you can stay within a similar price range and pickup quality pieces that also look great. Even right now, 4 years after this video was posted.
You are not limited to crappy watch too. They are a market between the crappy ones and the unaffordable. For all the money you spend in your collection, you can have 3 or maybe 4 real time pieces that can follow you for all your life, or that can be sell or exchange (look at brand like Seiko, Orient or maybe Hamilton). Five watches is a descent choice for me. And if you scratch them, they can be repaired.
I bought a $3 watch on wish and get tons of compliments. It keeps time perfect and looks awesome looks like i spent a lot of money but it was only $3 bucks lol. Same thing with my $12 Walmart watch keeps time and looks great... then I have a $500 citizen watch that my grandfather gifted to me... only wear on special occasions
I agreed with you, better spend the money on something really useful. Enjoy my casio watch that give me accurate time and 10 year battery life. It wont make me feeling awful if just happen to damage the watch.
i buy them on wish.com, there you can get 300 euro watches for about 10 dollars, and cool looking ones for about 1 euro. its fake but it is the same reason you got, they are cheap so you can buy as many as you want, and it doesn't matter if it brakes. no one sees that they are fake haha.
@@ethancampos2601 Why do you say that? He didn't mention the brand of the dress watches but the tevise and rolex homages definetely don't have to cost more than 50 dollars
Do you own any watches by Vincero? I don't want to spend a lot on a watch and Vincero's are $100-$200 and look amazing! The company's only been around since 2011 but they have a ton of great reviews.
I thought for the first 15 secs this guy has nothing interesting to say, but ended up watching the whole video. It's true, some of the outrageous prices are about to impress the ego, but yeah put it into perspective like you said. It's fun and I think you made the point.
It's true I pick up a 13000 Rolex but I usually wear my 75.00 watches than my Rolex and I really don't know why it's just that my 75.00 watches or more appealing I guess it's all in mod your in I like my Rolex but I guess I ain't one of those guy look look I have a Rolex who cares if. U like it and it's cheap go for it
Cheap watches, expensive watches, 1 watch, lots of them, I don't care. But as far as cheap watches go those are dogshit. Companies that make clothes will sell anything and stick their brand on them to make a buck. Those are $10 watches with burberry/Armani etc written on them, and I know you got them cheap on eBay. Anything Seiko, Casio G shock (GW5000-1jr) Tissot, Swatch (sistem51) are better choices. And personally I would rather have 1 good watch then loads of cheap ones.
+PlasticFunnel Depends what you want, something that sits under your shirt cuff for work, or something more causal/sportier/larger, this is very dependent on your wrist size, pay attention to case size, stay in region 36-42mm. I know watch lovers that have high-end stuff that will also have a G-shock. Also the sistem51(black model) has respect. Apple watch is cool. Go to Amazon and type Seiko in, might be better off with a quartz unless you are prepared to deal with idiosyncrasies of an auto at that price range.
im not trying to offend, but are the burberry watches from eBay authentic? I just feel like I can never trust ebay. I really like the signature plaid on the wrist band, im going to look for one.
Most of my watches are either Seiko, Orient, tissot, citizen, victorinox, and Hamilton which are far from what a serious watch collector would consider "expensive" but they're still a few hundred dollars a piece. My best friend has a collection of timex and invicta watches which are all below $100 and he is just as happy with his collection. All that matters is that you enjoy the timepiece. Cost of a watch does not reflect ones character and as long as that person is happy, that is all that matters. For anyone wanting to start a decent collection on a budget, I recommend fossil watches because they make great timepieces for the price and they also make the watches for designer brands like the Burberry watches this guy has but you would not be paying for the designer name. Citizen makes amazing watches and they are low maintenance because they require no winding or battery replacements.
Give the dude a break; he started saying his watches were not archie-quality type. They're cheap, shitty stuff that he enjoys wearing; nothing wrong with that
I have the Fossil Goodwin Chronograph Tachymeter watch, it was $98 on sale. Limited edition. My girl got it for me because of the vintage classy style and colorway (green, orange hands and beige/military face). I have a $1,500 watch at home that sits in a case. This one gets beat on, used as a timer and everything I need it for. Outdoors, events, mechanical work. It always stays on me. To hell with the price. It keeps time and I get endless compliments on it. Most people cant even tell the difference between the Fossil and my premium watch. Wear what you like, let the critics whine while you save money. You buy an ugly Rolex, I'll buy a beautiful motorcycle instead. Have fun riding your watch with a girl on the back, oh wait... you cant. Because you're more worried about how your wrist looks.
It's an interesting issue. Im ok with cheap watches as long as i like it. But still uncomfortable if people think i wear a replica or fake one. Then again i can't control what people think. I have a real prada key holder yet 90% of my friends thought i had a fake.
Love the disclaimer, cause u know for sure those "Rolex snob trolls" will start posting their shit in the comment section trying to get us all to save and get a second hand Rolex, Tissot or Omega lol.
Finally someone with common sense on you tube. A good quality used Omega is nice to own ,but no different than any other watch .I personally have taken a liking to Bulova as of late .The precisionist line is the cats meawooooooo. Rolex is expensive and generally gaudy jewelry. I found my 25 year old Timex put in a new battery and it works like a charm , not precise ,but it never was ! Life is too short to worry about what some elitist snob thinks . They have too much money and too little grey matter . And how they kneel at the alter of Rolex is unbelieveable leveling angry abuse at those Chinese monsters that dare copy their idols & minimize their worth . Tell me how can a Chinese company make an exact replica of a Rolex & charge 1/10 the price , and the best are so good even a watch maker has a difficult time telling the difference . Rolex watches leave the factory at i/10 the price then they are marked up by greedy jewelers to pay for their store fronts and kiss your ass attitudes . Rolex dont tell time ,they tell the world that the wearer is better than you cus he's got enough money to piss away a few thousand bucks without a care . Its why the rich need multi million dollar mansions with 20 bedrooms . Its because the poor can always eat cake !
People create things and give them a certain value. But then the things that people create are the ones that give value to the people themselves (a Rolex, a Roll Royce, etc). Creation turns against its creator. Let us never forget that it is people who have value for themselves and not for the things they possess.
I agree, I'm already happy with just 2 watches for different purposes: One $100+ amazfit smartwatch (it's not even a watch for enthusiast, just gadget) & one other $200+ Spinnaker Hull Diver. If buying watch makes you more insecure, that's not a good sign. 👍🏻
No one would make counterfeit watches like this... there is also buyers protection on ebay, if you are sure you got sold a fake theres almost a 100% chance you'll get your money back and to keep the fake.
As someone who really doesn’t like when people buy Michael Kors watches or watches like you’ve bought, you’re doing it the right way. People spend three four or five hundred dollars on watches like this which are simply paying for the name on a cheap quartz movement watch. But don’t write off buying watches from brands like Seiko specifically that punch way above their price point. And are truly great watches that even watch snobs can respect.
