So I’m getting that the Thunderbird is maybe a 73. The taillights said 72 is where I got that from, but either way it has the same fate 😆

Silas I absolutely love your Channel and I hate pretending that I'm a know-it-all but here is some great advice that somehow slipped by you with all the knowledge you have if you ever have to remove a truck or anything off of a trailer like that again all you do is connect your chain you sit in your truck with the brakes on and you have the guy with the truck and trailer just drive away
@AdventuresMadeFromScratch
@AdventuresMadeFromScratch 2 года назад
@@yungdolphin9130 Yes, that works great when you don’t have ramps like his. He has done that before with this trailer and the brace on the ramps will leave massive ruts

I grew up outside a small town in Ohio. My father was a welder and farmed. Back then money was tight. There was a junkyard near us and I remember going there with Dad he would buy steel and pipe there bring it home and make truck beds and other things with it. One day someone brought a swing set. The legs were rusted but dad fixed them with pipe. That was over 50 years ago. And your videos remind me of the times Dad and I were together. Good memories. Thank you for helping me remember.

OK, Just heard that "wind gust" thing...Have to chuckle a bit. A few hours ago, I managed to find a rain-soaked baby slipper that had blown onto the back porch (yes...only one of them, LOL!) Umm...I'm 56. I haven't THE FOGGIEST IDEA who the thing belongs to. I can't even return it to the owner if I WANTED TO. So...A-a-a-alrighty then...Circular file it is... Moral to the story: If you ever wanna find weird stuff lying around, just have a windy day or two...UNREAL...

I hear ya on the fool me once thing, that’s why I charge to give estimates on restorations now. It takes a couple of days to do them after you waste a day looking at the car to write them up and then they never come back, so I am out of all that time. But I do take it off of the bill if they do come back. Funny how people don’t think your time is worth anything, I am sure you know what I saying!😁

I get the fact the prices of various metals go up and down weekly, but the huge stockpiles of batteries, wheels, converters, even vehicle bodies kill me. I would want to clear it all out on a regular basis just to open the land and make room for new stuff. Seems like here's a never ending river of busted up automobiles coming in for processing.

I also like the 67 Ford 4dr thunderbird in background! 390 or 428 V8? My father had a candy apple red black vinyl top, black cloth and vinyl 1967 428 4dr thunderbird! I drove it 1987 when I was senior in high school! It was a big bad automobile! I wish I had it today! You don't see many off them anymore, even @ carshows! I hope you keep that 1 and don't crush it! The green thunderbird is cool, ashame someone cut hole in roof! Would have made a nice project car with 460 4v and C6 and 9" diff. Stay warm, spring is soon here! Take care.

Its just no fun. Another cool project for you would be to build a mobile rim crusher. Along the lines of a log splitter with an a-frame up front and a hitch so you can tow it from place to place. Hi. I love watching your channel. Partly enjoyment and partly envious. I save what I can and try to use what I can. Anyways your magnetic block heater is definitely the way to go. Get the three hundred watt one. I use plumbers strapping to secure it to the bottom of your oil pan as you just can’t trust it not getting jarred off and some oil pans are aluminum. I take out a couple of pan bolts and attach the plumbers strapping and then remove the handle bolt on the heater and attach the strapping on there. I live up in Manitoba and -30/ -40 is not unusual. I only use the magnetic heater on my diesel trucks and they work just fine. As you know if the oil is warm it will fire. Good luck and happy hunting. I would love to come a visit and root through your yard but I don’t think you would care for that. One thing I learned on your channel so far is not to close the hood latch all the way, good idea. I, like you can’t understand “ pigs” who leave doors/ windows/hoods and trunks open. Or bust windows just because.

Hey Silas, I really enjoy your adventures, …something different from where I live, …in the land of white sand beaches, coconut trees and blue lagoons, so boring, …cold for me is temps below 70°. I checked out a rim crusher on RU-vid, it took 80 second to crush the rim after it was placed on the machine, plus the time to take the rim off and throw the tire aside, …why not build a large chop saw, a cone shaped spindle with a 4-5 inch steel pipe with a large nut welded on to it with a tee handle welded on to hold the rim on the spindle. Fabricate a pulley shaft that will hold a 20-25 inch blade that will swing down and cut the tire in two, have a foot operated pedal that actuates a rod that keeps the tire from rotating, step down on the pedal and rotate the wheel and turn it 180° and release the foot pedal and cut the other side. Make a blade cover that not only covers the blade but with hinged sides the will hold the cut tire in place, after the tire is cut in two places raise the safety shield, remove the nut and have a chute that the cut halves of the tire will fall into and the rim will drop down and off. Make a rack like you are going to do to drain the liquids out of the cars and set the chop saw on it, truck beds on both side for the tire halves to drop into and a bed underneath to catch the rim, …load the loader bucket with tires and park it behind you, take a wheel out of the bucket and place it on the chop saw, that way you are only handling the wheel twice, once to throw in the bucket and once to place it on the spindle, …I’ll bet you can remove the tire from the rim in less than 80 seconds, a competent machine shop could build the rotating parts for you and it would probably cost much less than buying a hydraulic rim crusher,…and for you much more time efficient.

Silas, I'm just thinking here watching your video so please bear with me. Why don't you take one of your many flatbeds and mount a tire machine to it? You would also need a generator (which would solve your electricity problem) to run it. You could move your flatbed around with your loader to wherever you need it. When you get a pile of wheels go down and hire some day laborers for a few days to dismount the tires for you. All south of the border day laborers know how to skin tires off of rims. If you really wanted to cut corners, buy manual tire changers (no electricity needed) and pay your laborers (never pay them by the hour) by each tire they dismount. Just thinking here.

With scrap prices up everyone in my area (Mesa Az) is hauling but it's mostly illegal aliens. They cruise the streets looking. They think if it's outside it's free for the taking even if it was inside a garage. Until next time

Dear Mr. Silas. 👍👌👏 Well done (video and work). What a nice kid! 💚 Please kindly allow me some suggestions: Maybe a relatively inexpensive horizontal wood splitter could/would work for you as a rim crusher? Or a bigger hydraulic vertical one that can be connected to/with the hydraulic lines of your skid steer!? 2) Maybe the smallest, inexpensive horizontal Diesel heater could solve your problem with starting the old loader in winter. Just position the Diesel heater in a way that it blows warm air right at the oil pan. But don't put it too close to the oil pan (you don't want to boil the oil or melt any hoses/gaskets). I bet that some minutes of heating will already do the trick. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you.

7:03 That square body crew cab dualie hiding behind the Dodge looks pretty cool. It's a shame that that thing has so much rust, that it was probably not worth trying to save. 9:20 I can deal with the cold, it's all about how you dress for it. What I absolutely HATE, is snow. I don't like driving in it, shoveling it. Even running my big expensive snow blower sucks, because when the wind whips up, in the right direction, I get a sudden face full of snow, or if it's a heavy wet snow, the snow blower has a difficult time with it, so it takes a while longer to clear everything out. I have lived my entire life, almost 58 years in and around Chicago, so I know all about old man winter just as well as you do. I kinda laugh when I see 2 or 3 inches of snow, in the southern states, and they grind to a halt. Where we come from, we don't always measure our snow in inches, sometimes we get to measure it in feet. And then there are the times when a monster storm comes in off the Great Lakes........WOOOOF!!!!
