Yeah that's sad, the fish problem there is getting very serious too from my understanding. Some people should never buy animals full stop & that's where I think a good fair permit system could really help
@@skinksinthecity Id say about 15 or 20 years ago you could order an eyelash viper, spitting cobra, you name it, and give a credit card number and it would show up at your house. The have the worst invasive plant problems, fish, reptiles, Cane toads etc. it’s a big mess. People should have to prove they are responsible... And everyone shouldn’t be keeping reptiles that aren’t native to their area. I’d love to own a shingle back skink, but I think they are like $10000 here if you can even find one. Again that makes australia special. I like that.
@@randbasic yeah it's is a shame really because I know for a fact there's a Heck of a lot of responsible & great keepers but those impulse buys & serious underestimations of certain species that some people do have quite possibly ruined it for everyone. That's not even going into the invasive issue either. Now we just gotta hope that they don't go ahead & Ban all species because from what I've been hearing they'd like nothing more than take all our animal's. Florida are literally just about to pass a law banning a few problem species for selling and breeding and everyone in the US is having a meltdown about it. None of them care about the eco systems and are saying politicians are ruining the hobby. Theyre a bunch of hypocrites
@@beanfam1743 years ago a kid took his moms credit card and bought an eyelash viper... most of the state is overrun with LoL Australian plants LoL They used the paperbarks to help drain the water away so they could develop the northern part of the Everglades, that whole area should be a gigantic wetland but now their are homes and sugarcane fields. I hate to bag on them. It has been one bad decision after another for the past 100 years. You can look up a list of non native animals found in Florida and at one point there were capybara on the list. They have horrible hurricanes. What happens when a tornado or giant hurricane hit their house? Really bad ideas. LoL it’s really sad and their environment has been permanently damaged. Well enough about florida.
I bought a 7 months old Merauke from a pet store yesterday, and introduced him to his new place. He's been quite active and has already eaten some chicken for me. It's my first skink so I have the 'new pet anxiety' at the moment but that will hopefully settle..

I have had a companion License for under a year (Kevin the Beardie is 9 months old soon) and I have recently started finding myself browsing the list of allowed species... Thank goodness I dont have a living situation to support anyone else yet, but I can feel the obsession starting to take hold. I am especially taken with the Southern Forest Dragon, but for some reason nobody seems to have any information on them, they just yell BOYDS over you and pretend you asked about them instead...Starting to think there is a conspiracy.

Hi Coop, I'm a new viewer from Newcastle and have been enjoying binge-watching and learning from your channel. I've been thinking about getting a lizard for quite a few years now and have finally decided I'd like a bluey/shingle back. I'm still doing research and would like your opinion on shingle back ownership. I know that they only have small clutches so wouldn't want to have an impact on the population. I'd only want to buy captive-bred so what should I look out for so I know the seller hasn't just taken one from the wild? I also love the salt and pepper look of the Anery that Joe Ball showed on bluetongeTV. I bet they're $$$$$ though. hahaha . Thanks for the education.
Most shinglebacks around are captive bred. Best bet is to buy a baby from someone who bred them. They make great pets just have to be careful with humidity as they can get sick from prolonged exposure to too much
How do you stop ulcers on turtles heads, my two keep getting small patches of white, it’s not significant at all but it’s annoying because their heads are so small and they are so timid it’s so hard to treat, any recommendations?
