Don't get black light as that hurts their eyes. Definitely should keep a close eye on them, males go with males and females with females to avoid breeding especially at a young age. You can house more than one axolotl of the same gender but when you add another axolotl you should be adding 10 galalons to the new tank. You need to make sure to cycle your tank being adding them and add prime etc. Low flow filter is best like a sponge filter, if it tends to get warm in that room youll wanna get a chiller cause their tank needs to be kept at 63-65. But definitely add more caves, nothing sharp or paint is known to come off

Chris I love your videos, but please do more research on axolotls. You tank set up is not healthy for them as others have pointed out, they are super sensitive to chemicals in the water and need perfect water parameters and temp. Ideally a tank that size should only have one axolotl. You need multiple places for them to hide and minimum light on them. Also axolotls should not be held out of the water, it will stress them and can damage the slime on their coat. Only chemical that should be added to you tank is a water primer, the brand Seachem Prime is recommended in axolotl groups. Make sure your sand is fine and don't have large stones, as this can cause an impaction and kill you axolotl. Sorry if that was a bit of a lecture. Keeping being you and learning everyday.

Ive raised a couple and they are very sensitive to their environment and the water parameters needs to be perfect. Please please please do your research on the water parameters and things needed to keep them happy and healthy. It took me 1.5 months to get their water levels correct. Also, usually it’s not ideal to keep them together because they breed like crazy (they can’t be sexed for a while) and do take chunks from each other. It’s possible to keep together but not ideal. 30 gals per axolotl. Also, their water temp must stay cool. Oh! They need a ton of filtration because of how sensitive they are and if they stomp on their waste it will increase the ammonia in their tank and you don’t want ammonia burns. Also do not use any product with aloe in it as that burns their skin as well.

Chris one way to avoid having chunky sand balls in your tank is put the water in first then pour the sand in nice and slow because either way you do it your still gonna have to lit the sand settle down

As an axolotl owner, please fill the tank all the way up. I suggest using a fan to try and keep the temperature cool, a thermometer is highly recommended to monitor water temp.

Definitely get multiple structure. I noticed the albino has a tendency to float which is a type of birth defect but it can live normal with no issues as long as it is still eating. Another great protein source for them can be earthworms. Keep an eye on them and get them their structure. How about for names "ebony and ivory"?

I agree with most of the advice stated. That was the most alarming axolotl tank, they would not survive long like that. Hope they are ok! Very sensitive creatures especially at that age.

Chris, axolotls need plants and natural things like driftwood in the tank. Your decorations are cute but could damage their skin and gills. The sand looks nice but again could cause skin problems. You are so thoughtful with your animals so I thought you might like to know.

GFP is a proteïn found in a certain kind of jellyfish, they extract a gene that produces it and places this gene into other creatures like in this case the axolotl. We had a study about this on our school and it is actually kinda cool and done on quite some creatures😅

Have messed around with GFP at college, it does mean that the axolotl was genetically modified to have that within them. It's the same thing with the glow fish. Its originally purpose was to act as a marker for genetics and early development.

We have 2 axolotls! A golden albino named Stellar and a wild type named Astro. I have had them both since they were about 2 inches long! They are now about 8-9 inches long and are 6 years old. My 7 year old son made me comment to tell you guys!

I have 2 axolotls they both glow with a black light and each axolotl needs 20 gal. so for 5 you would need a 100 gal. But what you have right now as a fish tank is fine.
