Thank you for mentioning the lack of a 'boring' chestnut. If someone knows an ASB irl, it's bound to be a chestnut. It's THE coat of the breed. I'd wager 80% of the ASB breed is chestnut and half of those are boring, hardly marked, plain red ones. Not flaxen chestnuts, not pintos, just chestnuts...why was that not the first coat they designed?? That's like a dog game making a Corgi and never releasing a classic macaroni-orange variant...wild choice, imo.
Also...ASBs are definitely always nervous and scared in the show pen. They are subjected to immense pressure, discomfort, and stimulus. That whale eye is not natural, it's a response to the stress and the lifestyle of saddleseat shows (no turnout, painful equipment, lackluster riding, lots of loud stimulus, etc). Just had to put that out there as someone who worked in the industry for 5 years and would never go back...
@@Luke_is_weird No, it's the breed. Look at those horses in show or training situations and you will see whale eyes, tight faces, horses cranked beyond what is comfortable, hollow backs, and generally stressed horses. Ears forward means nothing if the rest of the horse is screaming 'help me' but saddleseat (and way too many people even outside of the industry) only look for ears and call the rest a quirk...
I feel like sso animates jumps to be upwards instead of forward like it should be and that's why it look so wonky in almost all breeds, also the fact that this breed doesn't pick up the back legs contributes to it. I feel like the backing up animation is perfect, I mean, it's a backup, how many tipes of that can exist? Also, I gotta say that the coats are all super amazing and yes, I agree that we should be able to make the character hold the rains with just one hand for all breeds, it's just so natural, especially in american pleasure riding styles.
Adding onto the lack of chestnut coat color: it has always bugged me that they have never seemed very explicit about coat colors in general. I believe they used to specify what coats were available in weekly updates, but then they stopped doing that and they just say "there's 7 coat colors for you to choose from". I'm honestly just confused what's stopping them from putting coat color names IN the game. I don't know much about coding or anything, but at least compared to animating the horse, rigging, texturing, modelling all that stuff, surely adding the coat name isn't that hard? Idk though, correct me if I'm wrong, like I'm just genuinely confused why they don't say what the coat colors are, especially for players who are younger and don't know coat colors or those who just are curious
They post the chosen coat colours on Instagram a few months before release, Saddlebred colours were announced in December, earlier this month they said what the Fresian colours (mainly variants of black) will be.
@@Megumi07 not everyone checks Instagram often enough or even HAS Instagram to begin with. Those posts also get lost later on as they keep making new content. I shouldn't have to rely on their social media. I want the coat colors IN the game; if they can take the time to make content on their Instagram about coat colors, why not use the same time to put it in the game?
There’s a saddlebred at my barn. I sent plenty of references to sso and I’m quite happy with today’s update. I’m buying that chestnut the second it comes out!!
I'm from Denmark and i've never seen a western horsebreed irl except the mustang, because i used to live 30 minutes away from the only scandinavian mustang breeding facility. i've never even seen a quarter horse before, but we do have a small population of folks who breed them and ride western. I am so intriqued by this breed, it's like... i can only compare it to an icelandic on steroids idk. like if a praying mantis and horse had a child it would be this. i think it's awesome, it looks so funny in like a good way. def buying a pair of them!
Haven’t finished the video yet so I don’t know if you mention it, but has anyone else noticed the front legs move side to side while standing still? It’s like the Gen 1 horses, it turned me off buying the breed because once I noticed I couldn’t stand it 💀
Completely agree with you about the saddle seat controversy in the beginning. Definitely wish they took upon the saddle seat aesthetic with the American saddlebred since i grew up around them and saddle seat, but they probably didnt want to be confused with big lick, which is understandable. But i think they did a really good job with the western pleasure! I was a bit nervous for them, but the more i ride them the more i like them!
I love when you make videos about checking out the new horses. I’m never sure and I love seeing it from a coders perspective I’m not sure if I’m gonna buy one yet, but they are beautiful horses!
Im in love with them and I was saving for my first Dutch warmblood but I’ve switched to a black ASB! But I have to say everyone keeps saying how they are so happy the we are riding with one hand because it’s “ western “ but as a western player I can confirm we ride with two hands ALOT depending on the horse but we are not always using one hand!
I work with saddlebreds at a saddleseat barn and almost all of those horses are some variation of chestnut. We have like 2 black horses and 3 bays in a 14 stall barn. I think the only one I may get is the black one because sso kind of rubbed me the wrong way with the whole saddlebred/saddleseat thing
I get that people say that are sad that there is no sadleseat and there is showjumping or racing. But those two don't have to be abusive and sadleseat is always abusive. Because you pressing on the kidneys if you are seated that far back on the back. The sadle is literally clapping on the kidneys. And ofcourse the horse always walks higher then other horses but the extravagant exaggerated gate is because the horse is in pain because you are bouncing on its kidneys. And ofcourse the horse can be used for other non abusive things so i do love what they did with the horse.
As a low level saddle seat rider that has watched a lot of videos and has read hundreds of comments on both sides, I have to kindly disagree with you on both things you mentioned cause saddle seat is not as abusive as people make it to be. First, you said horse racing is not that abusive but it is. They drug the horses and so many horses die on the track. If you watch Raleigh Link who’s an animal activist RU-vidr, she made a video a couple months ago and she said that horse racing is probably the most abusive sport. She also said it’s probably worse than big lick which we all know is nothing but abuse. Lastly you mentioned we sit too far back in saddle seat and that the saddle are on their kidneys. Western saddles to me sit farther back than the saddles used in saddle seat yet we get all of the hate for it. With the saddlebred’s naturally high head carriage and leg movement, we sit our saddles as far forward as we can so we can’t sit on their neck and shoulders. The cutback saddle which is the saddle we use is also flatter than dressage and jumping saddles. Of course there are some riders that do sit far back but not every rider. I will say myself that there are some methods used and some things done in saddle seat I don’t agree with like tail setting, double bitting, tail extensions, stalling the show horses except for when they get worked during the show season which is most of the year, and the trainers making weird noises to perk the horses up when they’re being ridden at a show. And of course there’s gingering and tail nicking which are abusive but those methods have been banned and those who do those methods can’t show.
The song at 12:02 is that from animal crossing from the wild world DS game in the clothes shop? It sounds very familiar to me. I wanted to say I’m happy I found your channel as I watched one of your role play videos and decided to hear your review of the saddlebred horses.
I love them sm, also love the new tack as well, I'm on a budget so I'm only buying one I lost motivation playing but I've been grinding all morning lol
I wish you had the option not to have that awkward hand-by-the-side thing during their "extended canter" special gait. I know it's specific and accurate to the breed but as someone who does RRP's with mainly jumpers, it's not it for me lmao. I wish we had that in addition to a more normal extended canter gait. I will still probably get one though because they're pretty for sure. Thanks for the video :)
I like to believe that for all the horses with this type of jump (tennessee walker, american saddlebred etc) the horses don't know how to jump / nobody conditioned them to jump well so they fire up like they got a rocket up their bum
I think they did a really good job on the coats but the only thing I really don't like is how they all look like they're different quality. The palo coat looks really sloppy compared to the bay coats. I don't think the palo looks bad, but I think they just look different and it's kind of weird when compared side by side.
the slow gallop does bother me, but other than that- the jumps, they are fine i guess? i mean your jumping, your only going to see it for a few seconds so im gonna get the rose dappled asb, they arent my favorite but they are very pretty horses, AND I AGREE YOULL 100% KNOW WHEN YOU SEE AN ASB IRL LOL
I do hate the speed rack on the ASB, I do think they can do, no- SHOULD do, a special canter animation like there is a special trot animation. It would help them stop sacrificing gaits for other gaits. Ofc there would be a bump in price tag but eh. The speed rack is something that I just can’t deal with.
As a saddlebred owner and show saddleseat I think they made this horse represent the breed well I agree the jump could be better due to the horse being so versatile but I think you have made the best points and understand the breed better than other videos (before I get hate I show country pleasure with a small shoe on a 19 year old horse who loves her job)
I really wish they’d let you try new horses out for like 10 mins or so to get the feel before committing to buying. I always have mixed feelings about buying new models because i’m worried i’ll end up hating it after lmao
the canter really bugs me-it’s not extending its legs out enough, it look like it’s stomping. But maybe that’s just how saddlebreds move. (I haven’t seen one in real life.)
I thought I would get one of these but I didn’t, I’ve never liked really skinny horses in sso but I thought I’d like these, but I didn’t, I feel like their heads look like the starter horse heads mixed with the Marwari and the twh at the same time, I like the animations but not the model, idk it’s weird imo so I won’t be getting one, I will get the ardennes horse I really want tho
I had to change server because mine was so packed after the update, it was so laggy it crashed twice within ten minutes and my computer was about to explode… any way yeahh im not sure about the saddle breed its ok but like its not my fav
I personally think they are ok definitely do t think they are gonna be a top breed I. SSO. IF ANYTHING Relistic coat colors would have been nice Maybe 1 or 2 different colors but IDK 🤷🏻♂️ my opinion is they are fine they a major step up on how they riders ride one handed is a huge game changer which I love.
I'm so irritated because I don't buy star coins, I save so right now since I'm saving for a horse, I can't buy any of the limited tack that cost star coins for camp western. also doesn't help that almost every item is around 80 star coins so I'd have to wait each week to get one item. I most likely wouldn't buy any of the saddles because for some reason ever since they updated our characters the western saddles are very ill fitted. They look way to big for most of the horses and are to big for the old western pads and it irritates me to the point I refuse to wear them and they STILL haven't fixed it. I do like the way they made the animations for the Saddlebred but I prefer heavier animations like the Tennessee walker. please tell me I'm not the only one irritated with the western saddles? also I do miss the first new western saddles because they put more realism into the way they looked
Irrelevant. When will the false associations end? We all agree that big lick is cruelty. But for the American Saddlebred, there's no such thing as "big lick"!
