I've had the Ditto looper for a year now. That little box has done soo much for my timing and phrasing. Just sitting at home chilling and improvising! Best value gear I own!
You can import drum loops into the NUX Loop Core Stereo as well. Sometimes they have to be converted, but NUX even offers free software for that one. Here in the US the Ditto+ is $159 and the LCS is $119, so I chose the NUX as I've fallen in love with several of their pedals and they're built really well. The built-in drums are great for just noodling around as well. Nice, quick video.
"No body loops for five minutes..." - I beg to differ. Well, actually I wouldn't call what I do "looping"- I use my looper like I don't have a looper. In other words- I will record the whole song playing rhythm, then play it back so I can work on the lead or a bass line or whatever I want. I'm not recording the lead or bass line- that's not the point- it's just a way to work out song ideas when I don't have anyone here to play the rhythm for me. Or sometimes I will lay down a bass line and play rhythm and lead over that- because the band I play in only has one guitar player. But I rarely if ever play like a 2-3 bar loop- I guess I should- it would help me work on my timing- but I get frustrated and aggravated with it usually and just go back to what I know. It's not that I don't know when to hit the pedal- I know how to count and all that but- its executing that perfectly that's the issue- especially in the context of a live performance.
I totally get it. That is a large part of how i use a looper too. Its the most important piece of kit you can have if that sudden inspiration kicks off a full composition in your head that massively outweighs your ability to remember every part, every melody and my own personal nemesis, the time signature. By the time ive set up a new track on my DAW, found the right rythmn etc i have invariably lost that epic hit single forever. I feel like im writing Tenacious D's "Tribute" over and over!' From now on i can simply stomp n groove then stomp n groove again until the masterpiece is captured and preserved, ready to be properly recorded. Its a revelation the best little bit of gadgetry ever!!
I own the Boss RC500, sold my Ditto Looper before. They are designed for different purposes for sure. My complaint with the Boss is the audio quality, it would seem that there is some kind of huge tone suck. As for the Ditto Looper, what I like is the simplicity and the cleanliness, the extremely low latency when switching and quality of the quality of the signal preserved. Amazing for such a small pedal.
Nice video! I have the Boss RC-2 for a couple of years now and it's just fantastic! I use it for live, rehearsals and at home for practice and improvise! Very useful pedal!
Hey guys you haven't mentioned the lekato looper pedal mini pedal, It's got a load of banks to save your loops on and it's got a tuner built in, I'm sorry for not being too technical but it cost me about £35 a few years back it's amazing, Lekato mini pedal
The Nux seems to be a great loop pedal almost looks like my Boss RC600 but for only one instrument. Nux really deserve a shout out. I also have the Boss RC2 , still not understand very well how it works but i'm keeping it may till i get or swap for a Boss RC1
I have a ditto plus and its not just just a looper for me, I record riffs with it that I can put onto my computer. A friend of mine has a NUX pedal and he loves it too
Yes, Pete, and in the U.S. we played the same silly PONG game on the family 20" color TV circa 1979-80. HA! OK, I'm convinced (by you two and by Nathan Smith at Yurt Rock) that I have to trade up to the Ditto PLUS looper! Thanks for the videos guys!
These vids are really informative and quite inspiring - i keep meaning to get on with it and get looping but i still find the in/out timing a challenge!. It helps that pete has great loop ideas and musicality - keep these coming - it makes a change to just doing the demos (which are still great). Loved the old series where i think the captain was taking lessons from Pete and Ariel . - must look that up!
Before watching the video, my choice is the tc electronic Ditto+ to replace my current Ditto. The combination of size and features, along with the trust I have in tc electronic pedals, add up to a solid choice. Let's see if the video changes my mind.
If you guys would like to do a tutorial on how to import WAV file to a Ditto+ you would have my undying gratitude. I’ve had one for two years and never managed it yet!
I love your longform videos they are awesome and in the day and afe of short videos they have substantial information and entertainment. I would love longer videos also you can clip the long videos shorter and repost them as small fragments and ppl like me can still enjoy full in depth videos.
Thanks for the video. Pete mentions in the video that he wouldn’t put the looper in the fx loop, just have it at the end of the chain. I usually have mine in fx loop, what the reason he doesn’t like the pedal in the loop? Thanks again
Tbh I just got the lekato one off Ali express (sorry andertons) insanely cheap and it does everything I need of a basic looper. There’s still a place for the mid tier and such, but for basic loops it’s almost nuts how cheap they are now… though at the same time when you remember it’s just recording a small snippet of sound digitally it’s also not surprising at all lol
I have a spark and struggling to get a good looper setup where I can use the software too so change tones. Would be great if you could do a video for this please?
IS there anyway you can control the volume knob externally on a tc eletroni ditto? i would like to record some percussive sounds and would like to control its dynamics throughout the song. Can it be done? Thank you very much for your help.
For anyone looking at loopers, avoid the ditto+ there’s no complete manual anywhere and it will randomly go into processing mode and brick it until you can get to a computer and even then it’s not guaranteed you’ll be able to get it working
What’s The Best Simple Looper Pedal For Me? - the one which has some click/drum in it and compensates my sloppy taps - the one with a simple human interface - should have tap tempo - MOST important: the one i actually use ... helping me to get over me big "Schweinehund"
I’m gonna try the NU-X stereo looper they showed. As far as your Schweinehund I would suggest a smaller one. Perhaps a miniature Schnauzer or a Dachshund. ; )
zoom g1on from like 20 years ago is the best looper pedal ever invented maybe digitech trio unfortunately both of these products are impossible to find as they're discontinued
Help please! I feel like I'm going crazy. I'm trying to find a simple voice looper pedal. With or without reverb as I can easily add another pedal for that. The ditto mic looper seems great but here in new Zealand they are over $300. Have you trialed any cheaper brands that are any good at all? Thanks
Am i right in saying if im using a looper with a katana 100 and gafc footswitch the looper needs to be in the effects loop or the effects will change on the loop as well as whats being played over it?
It's not the 70's. I don't think a ton of people are still running their pedals off batteries most the time. With a pedal going through a 9v in a few hours of use, that's a very expensive way to go for most. Power supply pays for itself in no time.
Yeah I was specifically looking for a review of that pedal so clicked this, saw it on the table and sat through the whole thing. Love Andertons and I'm never upset listening to Pete play but feels bad man.
And it can import drum loops like the Ditto+. Might have been nice for them to mention that. It's what the USB is for. There's a ton of great loops out there, including bass and rhythm guitar if that's your thing.
Amazingly well put together video in terms of how smoothly the two of you work together. I imagine it's far from easy, but you made it look a breeze. Bravo!
Never really thought about a looper before. Thanks for this really useful intro to these pedals. I might give it a whirl, I’m a sucker for the one button option every time. Some pedals look like the control panel of the space shuttle.
Digitech Jamman Express - yes now discontinued but you can get them for £40 ish second hand. The Jamsync function is awesome. I have two and the vocal looper version too, all hooked up to the SDrum. Nearly impossible for the loop to go out of sync and I can layer different sounds and vocals.
Hm, controllability has to be a priority here for accurate stops and starts. Just thinking the Boss style footswitch is gonna be more user friendly with its wider footprint.
Develop your time and your pocket - get a ditto+ and slap it on the end of your board. Record your noodlings on your phone, then listen back and ANALYSE your playing, objectively. Progress will be achieved!
Thanks guys. I like using loopers but always struggle with the one button models. I'm forever putting them into overdub mode when I'm trying to stop them. It's like having a drunk uncle at a family gathering. He just keeps going on and on no matter what you do!
I just wanna remind all the pedal manufacturers with Mini-/Micro- or - worse - USB-B ports on their pedals that USB-C was released in August 2014, which is almost 10 years ago.
I have a Boss RC 1 which I got earlier this year. Not sure if I’m getting the most from it - will need to find a video that demos that. The NUX looper looks great though!
Good video. I've a question: is there a loop pedal which can chain different loops? I mean, recording a loop then create other loops and then chain them in a "larger" loop. Thanks.
Thank you, gents, for this video. I've wanted to dabble more into looping as a new guitar player trying to better nail my timing down. You all are doing the lords work. 🎸
I know it’s a primitive way of doing it but I lay down a drum beat on my electronic drum kit through my RC-1, then switch the cable into my guitar and start layering over it. Would love to check out a looper with a drum machine in it though.
I’m by no means a looper expert, but I own and use several of the popular ones (Boss, Ditto, etc.). I’m putting together a small board to hang out in my living room, and purchased a Lekato. If you’re looking for something simple and user-friendly, it is a SERIOUS competitor, especially when compared to the standard Ditto.
I was struggling to get my Boss looper to work as I wanted through the FX loop... I didn't realise I could put it in the front and still use a pedal to add grit when I want it🙈. I'll try that! Could be a game changer!
Help! I want to use my pedal live for a song like Metallica - for whom the bells toll.. the idea was to play the little guitar melody over a distorted loop made of chords. But since they’re both distorted it sounds like the signals get muddy.. anybody have a tip for without using a second amp. I own a boss katana head with 4x12 cabinet
I dont have a lot of friends who play guitar so my timing is off, the looper made it easier to to work out where to come in I do it for fun but its nice to look light I have an idea where to be
Don't mind what loop pedal it is, looking for one where it can loop up to 4 bars and then repeats, I keep seeing ones that loop 2 bars on Repeat, looking to buy one thats not too expensive
Instead of the ditto, I'd say shoutout the ditto plus. It is the only looper I know that has the overdub that extends... unless I'm missing something in the market - and it's the reason I upgraded the also great ditto in the first place.
Every multi-button looper I've used also has that simple operation if you just use the one switch. It's just that most people don't realize that without reading the manual, so the simple loopers seem to prevail. Hey, if you don't need all that extra crap, why pay for it anyway.
