😊😊 plus about the automatic transmission problem that is easy we charge them to standard transmission and as well we take the fuel injector system and change the manifold and put a Weber on and in Puerto Rico we send the distributor to get together for a vacuum old school and yes they cut the distributor and put them together and they even built the trackers with d16 Honda distributor and tracker weld together skunk manifold fuel injector system with a manifold plate and turbo combo and believe me become a crowler and runner home made
Really appreciate you passing on your knowledge and experience to help keep wee Suzukis on the road man, I wish this video never ended but sure hope theres a part 2 as I could watch for hours!
I'm the guy that has the 16v swap parts from different areas and people. I remember I called you to do my wire harness and you immediately said no. Loll. But you recommended that I go to Petroworks to do it for me. Especially to make it carb legal in California.
apparently old MY deletes comments, as i say @oczuk32 go online find a wiring diagram and learn to read it .the 16v swap requires basic electrical knowledge. im no auto electrician but i sure as hell figured it out within two weeks.
@@samaxeman123 what are you talking about? I don’t delete comments. Even the negative comments. Maybe you saw a scammer using my logo and thought it was me???
Everything you hit on was exactly how my first Sammy purchase went. I really lucked out and found one bone stock that hadn't been wheeled. Has Ac too. Well worth the 20 plus grand I've sunk into it.😂 But at least i knew what had been done to it and where it has been. Plus i've learning more about "turning a wrench" in 2 years than the previous 55😂😂😂.. Thanks once again My....
Loved this video! Thank you! Very helpful. I just picked up an '88 Suzuki Samurai that i plan to use as a daily driver. I have a ton of little projects. There is another video for how to help get rid if the play in the steering wheel. I'm going to try it out next weekend and i'll tell you how it goes. :) - L from Washington
I have an AC unit from a salvage. Debating about putting it on. I am currently on my 5th Sammy I love the heck out of them and regret getting rid of them
Got my almost stock 88.5 square dash about where i need it. Like bigger tires but I'm fine with these mud 235/75/15. Shoot MY i wouldn't expect any channel i watch to answer back most are fillers do my part. Least i can do. I realize what it takes to make decent videos ,run a channel, time , effort, coin and still have a day job. To make it now a day's. Yes Sir great video. Thanks for shout out. Priceless. Stay safe.
My family and I went to watch some waterfalls. I have a Gen4 Jimny with diff-lockers. They went in a standard Hilux. I didn’t get stuck anywhere, the Hilux got stuck several times. The little Jimny that looks like a toy is far from it.
My, this is one of the best vids I've ever seen on Sammy's. I've been in the game now only a few years, but I LOVE my Sammy. One of the first things I bought was a Petroworks Grs 2 t-case. I didn't know about you yet. Then I saw your t- case Cradle and bought that with the spine. Anyway I love your products and service and business ethics!! Thank you so much! I really don't want to see you sell Zuks but I wish you all the best. Havasu Dave.....
Really informative Thanks Myron, Im a owner of early 88 stocker for 10 plus years just keeping her going and no major mods . maybe time for some improovements !
Thank you very much. I own a '97 2.0 16V Sidekick and love it. I need to do some bodywork on it but otherwise it's great. I'm from the Netherlands by the way, if i remember correctly, you didn't get the 2.0 Sidekick?
Thanks for sharing your experience. I am working on a 16 valve obd1 engine swap into a tin top and your 3 engines for one good one is my experience so far. If I knew before I was so deep into the project I might have looked into more modern engines. I was looking to get 100 hp while keeping the engine relatively basic. Maybe the next guy will get the memo sooner.
1.6 16v is the most popular for samurai just not for me. Currently building a 1.6 8v propane turbo (147hp) for myself. At the rate it’s getting done I should be 75 when the buggy is finished.
Awesome video, Sir. Total respect. My Dad is a Biblical scholar & teacher so I know an expert when I hear one. By the way I'm the inexperienced guy from Ohio. I called ya & you picked up while you were on the trail... & yes I ended up getting the wrong radiator but at least I have the right one on order now. Awesome video, Sir. God bless.
Thank you as always for the great info, it's a shame you didn't get the SJ80 in the USA, I am located in a weird place in the EU where we have both Asia Market Cars and EU cars, Trying to find info on the SJ80 on the internet is like needles in a haystack. I owe a 1997 Suzuki Samurai SJ413 - SJ80, the coil sprung suspension is really nice but that engine is a killer. I was looking to get a G13B 16V swap from a Suzuki Swift GTi (Suzuki Cultus) (looking for more of a street samurai than an off-roading one) since it bolts directly to the gearbox I already have but they are rare here. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this swap. Great informative video as always
The GTI is a great swap. Matt stole mine. When it was in pieces I asked is this mine. I will pay you for it is what he said. I saved that engine for 10 years for my rat rod 2wd Sammy project.
a few things to change doing a g13b swap as its a fwd configuration motor meaning you will need to adapt things like coolant hoses and the distributor set up as it will not clear the firewall. g13b has no torque being a 1.3 and especially being a dohc. its all up top. g16 16v similar performance but a lovely torquey powerband
I have AC in mine, thanks to Myron's help keeping it with the 16 valve swap. The only time I ever use it is if it's hot and raining, or for crawling around in mosquito infested woods.
Surprised you advocate a 2.0 or 2.5 liter swap over the 1.6. I went 1.6 L 16V because I had read from others the opposite. Maybe if or when I blow this one up, I’ll look for something beefier. Oh, and your tip on buying a donor vehicle rather than parts is an excellent one. I bought a rusted out, low-ish mileage Tracker with a for a grand, pulled the engine, harness, ECU and a few other small parts out of it. I sold it to a pick and pull for $455. My swap was a breeze. Definitely the way to go! Thanks for the history lesson.
Thank you for the informative history lesson. I may disagree with the Dodge-Aisin relationship. The first 5.9 3-speed Autos were Mopar 727 Torqueflights, then they went to the Mopar 4-speed overdrive trans. None of these would put up with a Cummins' torque and didn't last. Aisin transmissions (far superior) did not appear in Dodge (Ram) trucks until the last 10 years.
That was a TON of information. Especially for a first time potential buyer. I'm not looking for a rock crawler or mudder. Just a get out in the woods and crawl around car. I'm looking to have a little bit of a lift and a bit of a bigger tire. 31" at most. If that. I found a 86 tin top for $5k, but he's an hour away so I've not looked at it yet. If it hasn't been "offroaded to death, What do you think of the price. Dry climate here so rust shouldn't be an issue. What should the compression be at when checking? Thanks for your time.
I think you should have made it clearer for those that don't know, the Samurai is the Jimny, it was badged as the Samurai for the US market, I have a 98 Jimny licensed for the road in the US, in order to do this it must be 25 years or older unless you have money and connections, I know of 2 brand new ones licensed here.
Do you have Samurai high roofs there in US?? Haven't seen any on videos i have been watching. Almost all seems to be soft tops. I'm from Finland and many Samurai has a high roof, including one I own. You have very good knowledge on Suzukis. Thank for sharing all the information...
@@Zuksoffroad What is your opinion of tire size on Samurai? i have 26 spline chromoly axelshafts in front and rear and arb lockers on both axels. Have been thinking tires but seen on videos that Samurai axels could not handle 33" tires and up.. 31x10.50 -20 et is kinda sweet spot what i have seen, but does 33x12.50 make that huge difference? Thanks for sharing all the knowledge you have.... Samurais are sweet little rigs
@@poppamies5990 34” is easily handled with good driving skills and chromo axles but once over 33” I prefer to do taller t-case gears for strength and lower axle gears. 4:16 or 4:9 in t-case. 4:57 in axles. You can do deep 6 in t-case and leave the axles alone also. But sharing the load prevents breakage.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It is worthwhile upgrading to the 26 spline front axles if sticking to stock sized tyres and not a huge suspension lift? Do you recommend a parts supplier for this? The rebuilding the front diff changing up the side gears I'm thinking would be a cool challenge. I've got to rebuild the SJ41 rear diff anyway (loose flange with Pinion Movement, I assume it's that crush sleeve you talked about). I'm a Mechanic apprentice looking at getting more hands on experience doing the old school jobs we rarely get these days in the workshop. SJ70/SJ413 tin top and a SJ41/SJ410 tray back. In Australia and hoping to get the SJ70 going as an everyday driver and do the occasional bush/desert 4wd track.
An expert off-roader in a samurai that he purchased new. 8 years later he was State Suzuki club prez. He snapped one front and one rear in two feet with stock tires. Never turn front birfields full clock and back up. Weakest point and Never let your car be used as an anchor for winching. Axles stress is unbelievable when doing that.
I absolutely have to give you a call, I have so many questions about my JB31 1995 Jimny Sierra tin top right hand drive. Its a 1.3l 1298 but Nothing makes sense to me. I really want to do a rebuild and possibly a turbo kit but when I research the one I have it doesnt seem to really exist.
Suzuki has a lot of models we are not familiar with in the US. I am very familiar with G13B/1298cc that’s a 9.5 flat top piston used in efi here in US. Many were still carbed in other countries. We are too busy to introduce another turbo product for using with old closed loop efi. We will this year.
Great video! Was hoping you would mention samurai 1.9TD (LWB) as i just picket up one. ive had many sj410 /413 /jb43 jimnys as they are all over the place here. But the sammy 1.9TD (registered here as a 2003) is very rare and im told it is 1/7 left on the road in my country. Is there any specific changes to this model compared to older 1.3 gasoline sammys? Cheers from Norway
Unfortunately LWB not imported into USA. All LWB here come from Canada. Very rare indeed. Not being a diesel fan I covered the most popular current engine swaps. Cheers Norway! Originally from Minnesota Norwegian ancestors. We might be related.
@@Zuksoffroad I want to make this my new daily driver /crawler as i got an extra 6,5:1 tcase on the shelf and thought the 1.9TD (this one has the xud9 TDI engine 100 ish HP not the 63HP) might have some extra torque down low. only planning on running 33's so i hope that will be alr. Thx for your reply!
@@internetttroll1908 off road you couldn’t ask for a better setup! Diesels are wonderful offroad. Maybe a tad heavy up front for waterfall crawling but horrible on hiway. To high of tons due to low gearing in Suzuki
@@Zuksoffroad No highways where i live. Do you by any chance know the diff ratios on this thing? i havent gotten it in the shop yet to look at it. As they are so rare here, getting replacement axels for it gonna be a pain so i will only do mild ish crawling. strict rules here, so i cant do too much of modifications.
What's up with the kswap you mentioned? I've been looking into it for my samurai since I'm a honda technician and makes sence but I only see them done on 2wd setups.
😂😂 samurai are jumping beens for me slow and are a matches box for me.I appreciate 96 4x4 and 97 they are a lot better in the highway and more stable and a lot faster and believe I know I my self have a 96 Geo tracker 16 valves 4 x4 old school style and with header and a 272 Delta cam regrind sound good and pull nice with a aluminum crank pulley and I'm being all over with my Geo tracker I'm from Pa and I'm being Florida Texas California nj etc never any problems and my is auto 4x4 I maintenance my every year from tune up to transmission filter and fluid. And I have 15 x 10 wheels with 31 x 10.5 tires no mud tires and 4 in flares all around no lift look like a toy bulk up and I made him my own bikini renegade style took everything I don't nd including air conditioning crap back seat rug etc etc and every bolt that don't nd including speakers radio all run in Bluetooth speakers I can tell you people love the look and the cam sound old school style nothing fancy is a jp a Spaniard mustang 🐎 born in the byouooooo CCR amigo
Hi. My father in law had an old Suzuki Sidekick that I loved. I am looking to buy a used one in Greece. I almost bought a 1 owner 1998 but the owners wife said no. Can you recommend what years I should focus my search on that had the fewest problems, and which years to avoid? Thank you very much Nick
I may be wrong but the USA sidekick is the world’s Vitara. The Suzuki Sidekicks/Trackers/Vitara are cars that are 4X4. They can be made very successfully into good street cars to SAS buggies. The future doesn’t bode well for the highest quality parts. It is a good idea to get the parts that make sense to have while you can obtain.
86 was first year and was a success lots of 86 models. For model production year by year that’s all listed in the Suzuki VS Consumer Union FAKE ROLLOVER REPORT video. Check it out
ive got an sj410 from 1985.. would it make sense to swap out the engine, the transmission and the axles for 413s stuff? or should i just buy a 413? cause finding a 413 or an sj in general is kinda hard in my country. and the reason why i wanna change the axles is because appearently the axles on the 413s are a bit wider, atleast thats what the seller of my suzuki told me back then. oh and i need to change the hood for the 1.3l i just read on wikipedia.
I have seen 410 bodies on 413 frames and drivetrains. 410 are popular but not much support. A few things are similar and many companies claim their parts fit both 410/413 but that’s like three parts outside of the t-case
@@Zuksoffroad oh damn, bet my lock out´s wont fit. xD well, guess im going to search for a cheap rusted 413. because my 410s is rust wise in pretty good shape. thanks for the information. glad there are still ppl like you out there who know so much about old suzukis. 👍
You said Aisin made parts for Toyota, but in reality Aisin is a drivetrain company that Toyota owns. The same as how Jatco trans are owned by Nissan or how GM owned Allison Transmission for the better part of a century.
Your generalized statements are inaccurate and out dated. Currently AISIN being part of the Toyota Group means Toyota is a minority owner. I was referring to back when these cars Suzuki and Toyota were being manufactured that AISIN made the engines transmissions axles and t-cases. Should you find error in my statements don’t make comparisons give me details to change my erroneous summation.
Anyone want a tin top with a rebuilt engine, T-case and my-fi installed? I love it very much but I am not qualified to repair the body which sadly has the rusty fenders.
@@Zuksoffroad I appreciate the encouragement. I have no welding skills though. I kinda want to sell it and buy one with less rust. I've had this little truck for close to 20 years. I just dont know what to do. The rust isn't limited to the fenders sadly.
Can I be stupid here and ask exactly what the ramifications are if one tries to modify a soft top to become a tin top? I seem to hear that the rear quarters are different? Are the doors also different? I'm a buyer if I can make it work!
@@jeffferguson4632 tintops have different behind dash and A-B pillar sheet metal. Fixed windshields also. An experienced sheet metal worker took 18 months of 30-40 hr weeks to make the extended cab dump truck tintop called “Dumpy” if you are determined to make a soft top into a tin top document it so the next guy won’t
It’s a closed loop system unless you turbo it and that’s iffy at the moment because the rods are weak. The ecu is not programmable. No aftermarket cans because it’s not programable. It’s all about compression and gearing. What car is it in? What size tires? What transmission? What axle gearing? What is your purpose for this vehicle?
The single cam 16v 1.6L was not the right engine for me because I had 4 of them and it crack either the head or the block and leaks a lot of motor oil. I now only kept the 8v 1.6L it never had any issues. Thanks for the great information about Suzuki.
