Work on developing Amaravati as the capital of the bifurcated state of AP, which started in 2016, got stalled since the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government came to power in 2019. A 2023 CAG report has noted that Rs 10,000 crore has been spent since 2016 to develop Amaravati, but many of the projects taken up in 2016, including developing trunk infrastructure like drainage, roads and power lines, have either not started or been abandoned mid-way.
