More About Our Speaker:
John Hill, president of HillCo, LLC, lives in El Paso, Illinois with his wife and 4 kids. He started beekeeping in 2005 at 16 years old, and has had bees most of the time since then. In 2020, he founded HillCo, LLC, which has quickly become a leading supplier of beekeeping equipment in North America.
John has been fascinated with honeybees ever since he was 4 or 5 years old, wondering what it looked like inside a beehive, and how bees made that delicious, golden honey. He caught his first swarm of bees at age 16. Bees have always been a passion for him, and now his wife and 4 kids are involved as well. John’s original intent was to be a full-time beekeeper, not a beekeeping supplier! As he worked towards building his beekeeping hobby/addiction into a full-time business, he was always frustrated by how expensive beekeeping can be. The cost of package bees, nucs, and queens keep getting higher, as does the cost of hive components, honey extracting equipment, etc.
To save money as he expanded his apiary, he started building his own hives. As he got better at making hive components, he decided to sell some locally for extra income, and quickly realized that there was strong enthusiasm among central Illinois beekeepers for a local supplier. One thing led to another, and just a couple years later, he’s now a nationally known, full-line beekeeping supplier, shipping products all over the US and Canada.
