@@neyneys4619 they're both two different versions of the song, arianas version is more in her style and lea's is closer to the original bway style they cant be compared. i think a lot of people think arianas is better bc it's the only version of the song they've heard
@@jillsalkin7389 I love both artists but prefer Lea for this song specifically. She brings out the emotion of it a lot better. Ariana’s version is good for casual listening. Lea’s version reminds me of hurt, anger, and confusion I’ve felt in the past and brings me to tears
Ariana’s version isn’t for theater. She’s more concerned about looking good while singing. It was devoid of the emotion this piece requires for theater.
This is hands down the best performance of this song I have ever seen, and I don't think there are many songs I've seen performed more than this one. Stunning.
I still can't decide whether I like this rendition more or Laura Benanti's. Granted, Laura's clip on here is only audio, but her voice sounds so right on the song. Lea's edge is that her acting is mesmerizing, and the fact that she never pushes her voice too hard throughout just drives home the emptiness and vulnerability she's feeling in the moment. Stunning performance.
+PhantomifyEponine Lea isn't a belter. She's a mixer. That's why her voice is so healthy. But she doesn't need to belt, because her mix is so powerful and clear.
Lea's is far superior to Benanti. But check out Cynthia Erivo's. They are both spectacular. Completely different. This performance is just stunning in every way. If only any of them were in the movie instead of Anna Kendrick. lol
I turned this performance into an MP3 and it's become the most played song in my iPhone. I bet if RU-vid had a counter on my most played video, it would be this one too.
I’ve seen this 7 years ago and even commented here below. And every single time I need to relax and let my heart out, I always go back to this stunning performance. It’s October 2022 and I’m crying again because of you, Jamie.
Bitch Buster True. She's pretty with makeup on, but she's prettier WITHOUT makeup on. Seen her many times with no makeup. Still looks pretty as she age.
Had the privilege of hearing and watching this live when she performed here in Osaka along with 3 other musical legends, and goodness, I've drown in feels. I've never heard of the musical "The last five years" before and I'm not familiar with the songs or the story but Ms. Leah gave a really heartfelt performance. By the end of the song I was weeping and asking what the hell is wrong with Jamie?
hahaha well i think they're just very incompatible with each other. both of them did something wrong, not only with jamie, and not only with cathy. jamie was too preoccupied with his work and he got so arrogant because of it. cathy, on the other hand, kind of blames jamie for having such bad luck on her career and she also got envious with the success of her husband. they were just not meant for each other. it's a sad story, but it's very realistic.
I felt EVERYTHING she was portraying!!! OMG her acting and emotions are just left out to dry. Absolutely perfection. Simple and effortless, yet so impactful and effective.
Aside from this being a simply perfect performance from Lea, the real cherry on top about this video is that the very last thing you hear is someone say softly, "That's gorgeous." Amen, brother.
Both Ariana’s version and Lea’s version get to me in a way none of the others do, especially Lea’s. I don’t really feel any anger or spite coming from Ariana/Lea, just pure pain and confusion (which I’m not sure is what Jason Robert Brown intended but I think it’s a much more relatable interpretation). A dark & helpless feeling comes over you when someone leaves. The anger/spite don’t really come until much later in the healing process, or at least in my experience. Which is why their versions are more truthful to me.
Ariana's voice is very beautiful and she has the benefit of fuller, more lush accompaniment. Lea's version is not only vocally gorgeous, but she is mesmerizing to watch as well. It's like I can feel how her heart is in pieces and it's devastating and amazing.
She gave an emotion to this song. She's singing with all her heart and also she's enjoying and loving what's she's doing. You're the best Ms. Lea Salonga! I love you.
I cried!!!! How on earth that she's that excellent in a rehearsal??? Come on!!!! This woman. I can't with her. I have been watching her youtube videos for hours now. Lol. I thought this song is already painful but she made it more painful than ever! Amazing musician!
her crystal clear voice and her awesome tone fit the song so well....this song is so heart breaking....oh my...shed a tear....Lea is indeed a powerful singer....such emotional power in her tone and the brilliance of her voice...can't put into words...this is the best rendition of this song! I so love Lea! :)
brilliant vocal. on point and with right emotions. clarity.... gosh .... one thing that this girl has and a lot of singers does not posses. she's so beautiful. I'm in tears. this will be played in my house all the years to come.
i can almost feel as well as hear the rawness of the emotion behind the story of this song. what was great about this performance was that Lea was able to connect with this song and its message. it brought me back to the time that i was really hurting from a broken relationship.
“Run away like its simple, like its right” When you found a song that somehow speaks for your experience. 😌 And then Miss Lea sang it with so much emotions 🥺🥺🥺
has anyone seen the play? you guys should see it. this is one of my favorite musical. It starts with this song while Kathy was reading Jamie's letter telling her he's leaving. So those asking what the hells wrong with jaime, you guys should see it. Its really heartbreaking.
how i love her version!.. the emotions she conveys is just amazing..she sang with simplicity and straightforward yet so powerful. ive seen other versions of this song, and by far this is my favorite...
