I have a Craftsman riding mower and found an easier way to bypass the brake switch than tinkering with the wires. I bought a replacement switch on Amazon for $13, plugged in the wire harness, and zip tied the switched closed. I didn't even mess with the old switch, but either it was always faulty or the mechanism to close the switch has a design flaw. Anyway, my riding mower starts right up without any fuss. Thank you, Ross, for the inspiration! I had been dealing with the brake switch b.s. for 10 years. I was even looking at new mowers to be done with the headache. Now, it starts up like new!
I just got a used one because I got acres of land now so new rider mower owner and I'm having problems staring mine new battery and everything but it seems if I mess withe the throttle it'll turn over and run. And ideas? I'm wanting to by pass all this I think. When it starts it runs GREAT
If you make a jumper wire with 2 spade connectors you can unplug the brake switch and insert the jumper wire into the harness on the lighter color wire side. (grey or white?)The black wire side shorts out the coil so it shouldn't be jumped at all, unless you want to kill your ignition. Cost = free if you have the connectors. I tested my switch and with it the button pressed in the black wires are open circuit, and the lighter color ones are closed circuit. Added benefit is you're not clipping wires or altering your wiring harness, and it can be set back to how it was if you want, be reconnecting the switch.
Sorry for the delayed answer, but just now saw your message. The jet on the bottom of the carb probably needs to be cleaned...I hit something and broke the Deck on mine, so not using it anymore.
My craftsman lt3000 dies with the deck attached blades engage however without deck on it runs ok seat has be bypassed it dies with the brake released in any gear with the deck attached . Will that work for me?
If it's a newer mower with the 3 wire seat sensor connector, it'll disable the mower from mowing if the seat sensor is unplugged. Try plugging it back in and see if it works again. If it's an older one with a 2 wire connection, you can just unplug the seat sensor to disable the sensor it and it won't matter.
