Byrna HD | Good for self defence?

Less lethal. Because the right circumstances someone can die.

As former federal LE and Krav Maga & CQC Instructor for both LE and civilians, the Byrna HD is one of the LTL devices that I train LE personnel with. The solid kinetic balls can indeed be lethal and most definitely will blind someone if they are shot in the eye(Yah, I realize that this is not lethal, though one has to ask themself if they want permanent disfigurement as an outcome, obviously depending on the circumstances) if fired at the head/face region inside of 15', though I say 20', UNLESS one does not care of the outcome or the individual is wearing heavy winter outerwear which would cushion any impact. A lil late to the party however I discovered something in using my Byrna which may benefit others.... The Byrna is a viable, and in my mind, superior option to a taser, however all have their place in a LE individual's armamentarium. Though I use both a 12gr CO2 cartridge and a 7 projectile extension mag, for those using the 5 projectile mag that comes with the unit(this also works with the extension magazine), I have a lil pearl that will give you one more projectile in your launcher. This may not seem like much however if and when you have to utilize your launcher in a real world scenario, believe me when I say that EVERY projectile is critical to your survival!! Once your magazine in in the launcher, with 5 projectiles in the mag, you will notice that the breech indicator on top of your launcher is raised(versus flat), indicating that a projectile is in the breech/chamber. With your launcher on "safe," drop your magazine and you will see that you now have 4 projectiles in the magazine, with the 5th projectile being inside the launcher breech/chamber. Now just insert another projectile into your magazine, giving you 5 in the mag, and pop it home. Now ya have 6 projectiles at your disposal versus 5, with 5 in the magazine and 1 in the breech/chamber. Again, while this may not seem like much, as I was told my first day of combatives/CQC training, "you can never have too many bullets in your gun," lol Nice vid👊 Continued Success & Stay Safe🍻 RP

Tippmann sold the TiPX under its Mission Less Lethal line. It was called the TPR. The parent conpany declared bankruptcy snd sold off the Mission Line to Byrna. For concealed and compact, the Byrna wins. However, the TiPX wins in customization. You can add a remote line and an HPA tank. Get a MCS box mag and you can shoot over a hundred rounds with a 13ci tank. Pop in a long range kit and you can shoot FSR/Pepperball rounds.

@@KenjiLo1 You're completely missing the point. Doesn't matter if the safety is on, you never point a weapon (loaded or unloaded) at anyone unless you intend to use it.

@@KenjiLo1 oh okay cool, do you know how effective this would be in a high stress situation. Let's say for example a guy with clear intentions of robbing me approaches me and I manage to shoot him with this. What do you think the most likely outcome would be. I'm really interested in this product, but I obviously have my doubts as I know if I'm faced with a person who has a real gun I'm in big trouble.

A week or more, but you risk the seals being damaged over time if you leave it charged like that, the same as any other CO2 powered gun.

Jeremy is correct, rather always replace with a sealed one. To be ready for action. Once punctured, use it and throw away.

@@remyfacade depending on the type of pistol it is you either have to take it apart completely or just remove the piercing assembly and back cap.

I think this is more for people in states/countries with restrictions-- if your government won't let you carry a firearm for self-defense, I'm guessing the legal system won't look kindly on something repurposed for it either. The benefit of the Byrna (and other similar devices) is being built and marketed strictly as a self-defense tool-- your lawyer will ay "my client carried this expressly for protection" as opposed to the other side saying you were packing a modified paintball/air gun and looking for trouble.

Anything over 300fps can be considered lethal under current laws in most states when firing a solid projectile, so there's a reason it's set to 300fps. Even at 300 fps, those Kinetic rounds hurt like hell and two or three will drop 99% of people. I love people who think it's a paintball gun though. Obviously they've never been shot by one of these things if they think it's a paintball gun. I've been shot by both and I guarantee you that the Byrna hits a hell of a lot harder than a paintball gun.

@@Joreel I've done extensive testing between the byrna and the paintball pistol that I've have and I'll tell you this, they hit about the same in fact my paintball pistol is actually more accurate and hits a bit harder because I have a stiffer spring in the back. So again why would I want to spend the money on a Byrna when I can buy a paintball pistol like the one I have and just change out the rear spring for a fraction of the cost? For the record the paintball pistol I have is a Delta 68 with a modified piercing assembly.

I know but not all countries have the glorious 2A. It takes up to 2 years to get something similar to a CCW which we call a gun license. So people are doing whatever they can to ensure they can protect themselves...

In many states, just getting a gun legally is extremely difficult or impossible, here in California it's almost impossible as the gun shops have been back ordered for two years. Gun manufacturers don't want to ship to California anymore because of how restrictive our Governor has made things. The list of legal guns changes monthly, so that gun you bought last summer may be on the illegal list today and you wouldn't know it until you use it, then you'd be arrested for possession and use of an illegal firearm.
