Hi Waylon! I am fascinated by the idea that you have had this conversation with Katie. I wonder if your question was answered, or if you gave it more time. What I heard was that you , and many others, seem to struggle with balance, and that your life's work, even though it serves you and seem to benefit others, also brings stress. I'm in a place where I am looking at that particular reality, and doing the Work. As I have been a reader of Elephant for a while, and also a student of the work, my experience is that we can waste a lot of time in entertaining our mind with shit that may or may not even be true. So much of our blogging and "work" is in fact a way for our ego to exist I think… I look forward to see where you bring all this! GASSHO

Hey! Yes, I find personally that balance isn't about harmony, or peace, or rainbows and unicorns ( ;) ), but rather, like surfing, a constant state of imbalance, adjustments, tilting left, right, this way and that--the key is to ride the waves with humor, appreciation, perseverance and joy. For myself, I'm always tired, always sacrificing fun or exercise or travel or relationships-but, day after day, I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve-and that serves in turn to balance any sense of loss I have in living out my days staring at a laptop instead of being out in the world. Thanks, J!

I really appreciate your reply, I imagine you can be VERY busy. I am grateful for your experience of success and your service. I'm humbled by your words because I know the challenge of wanting to respond to everyone, to be present to ourselves and our family. I think it is a challenge that many people face and many mothers believe they experience alone, but here you are speaking to it. Just in case this serves you at all, I just began a new practice that has led me to slow down and address those exact issues. Sometimes illness, injury and death are a gift to finally do what is necessary in order to pay attention to this call of deep rest our soul calls us to. Byron Katie got through me in understanding that the world will not collapse if I let go, even just a little bit. In fact, in cutting the crap and getting to the essential, many things around me fall away, and I am left with much time, and joy. That my friend, only came naturally at 45 years old after years of hardcore-ness and busy-ness, running around trying to fix the world and be enlightened! I have yearned for this "retirement" for many years, but my ego was too inflated to really get it… Cheers!

Byron Katie is so wonderful! I've also been enjoying quite a fair bit of Master Sri Avinash Do at the moment for my spiritual journey. #SriAvinashDoTV I've found his Satsang talks have helped me immensely.
