BYU Football 1996 Year of the Cougars highlights. I attended most of the games that year. I created the "You Punt You Dye" sign and it can be seen during the highlights of the Utah State game at about 16:10 mark. This team featured some great players: Steve Sarkisian, Chad Lewis, Ronnie Jenkins, Shay Muirbrook, James Dye, Itula Mili, Ben Cahoon, to name a few.

I am a Ute fan but this is cool my p.e Coach played for byu and one of the best people I know and led me to watching this great video

By 2023 BYU will be in the Big XII conference and have a chance to play in a New Year's 6 Bowl game and also a chance to play for a National Championship game in the College Football playoffs.

I hated those black trimmed 3D numbers, but this team was fun to watch. This team was better than the 84 squad, but the loss at Washington killed any chance to play in the alliance due to the weak WAC schedule. I wish that they would have tried harder in the early 90s to join the Big 12. They should have been in the Fiesta Bowl. They were good enough.

Respectfully I'd disagree. They were one of my all-time favorite uniforms. I grew up in the mid-west and only got to see the first and last game. So this is GREAT!!

This was an amazing season. BYU should have played in the Fiesta Bowl for the title. It was discovered that the main reason why the bowl selection committee didn't pick BYU is because BYU is stone cold sober. Yes, they were told that the area would not bring in the amount of money that most teams bring to the local restaurants and hotels because the majority of BYU fans DON"t spend gobs of money on Alcohol and they stay with their relatives instead of expensive hotels. BYU should have sued the bowl committee, but thats not their way.

That's right. How did the committee guy put it on national TV during the selection show " WE FELT BYU DIDN'T BRING ENOUGH TO THE TABLE." Of course, all those years going to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl gave BYU fans the stereotype ... "They go there wearing a white shirt and with a $20 bill in their pocket. And they don't change either one the whole weekend. "

I was in the MTC when UW beat us that day. Til this day, I still despise UW for screwing up our undefeated season, and a shot at the national title.

This is when the Western Athletic Conference (where Brigham Young was part of at the time) got expanded into 16 teams (splitting the WAC into 2 divisions).

2016 is the 20 year anniversary of this team! Hopefully that means changing back to royal. With Kalani Sitake as the head coach there might actually be a chance.
