Any error they could have committed with harmonies, or any other musical term, would've been completely overlooked by me if I were a judge. It's because they are SO unbelievably energetic and emotional when singing, it just makes them so much better. Also, I have a huge soft spot for beatboxing, especially when done like that.
@plasticmailbox Her name's Courtney Jensen. Search for her performances with the BYU choir and it will blow your mind. Also check out her covers with her sister Katie. Her singing voice is as up to par as her beat boxing. :D
@gvfarns The producers of the show didn't like how Amy Whitcomb (the "blonde chick") had originally done her hair--so they changed her look. Amy explained this many times in the performances after this appearance. But if you ask me she's dang cute with spiked hair and represents BYU well.
@PunksterBrew As much as I agree that the Backbeats should have won, this group deserved to at least be one of the final three, with the SoCals and the Bubs. I never did quite get Nota, but those collegiate groups knew what was up. I don't know what it is, but apparently groups with just six members are destined to be seen as either better or just more impressive or memorable.
I can quite clearly hear the lower notes hear. They are perfectly blended so as not to be too heavy as low parts tend to be. Maxx Factor, as a quartet, were designed to have equal levels of each, but also had a much less pleasing tone and a rather old-fashioned form of singing that was unable to match itself to several of their songs, such as Love Story, or even the Beach Boys, which should have been tailor-made for them. Their vocals were too good to go out when they did, just like the SoCals.
@mbarney22 wow, crazy, i didn't know that the scary-haired girl from season 1 was the same girl from season 3. it says more about superficialness for judging her based on her haircut, i suppose, but i agree w/the original poster that her haircut was distracting, i was thinking about that the whole time I saw noteworthy, some haircuts are just distracting what can you say? and no she doesn't look cute at all, she looks menacing and monstrous
@AIReject I'm not sure. I love Noteworthy, but it was inevitable. No all female a capella group can win this competition. Not enough low end, doesn't sound as rich, and all female groups tend to sound pitchy (well, unless you got enough women with deep deep voices, or on steroids). If you want a versatile group, you want men and women in your group, ergo Backbeats should've won this season, lol.
That blonde chick's spiked hair is super distracting and strange. BYU would never let a guy in vocal point get away with a similarly extreme appearance, especially while representing the school.
@AIReject They got nailed for not having enough "range" in their group or some bs like that. Which is really stupid. Also--if you listen, someone is out of tune with the rest of the group and she seems amplified.
I hardly think religion matters on a reality television show (at least when the group isn't singing a religious song). So their religion is hardly why they won or lost. Comments here need to be more reasonable (from BOTH ends of the spectrum). =/
Could they have perhaps picked one key? And had everyone get in it and stay there? Or is "8 different keys" a new style? This was a terrible performance.
