Cáin Adomnáin (Law of Innocents)
Commissioned by Birr Vintage Week & Arts Festival, telling the story of the ‘Cáin Adomnáin’, one of the first ever laws to address human rights especially for women & children, enacted in Birr in AD697. Also known as the ‘Law of Innocents’ it protected non-combatants from going to war & so in effect was the Geneva Convention of its day. Twenty wonderful women & children recited lines from the manuscripts & were projected onto the boarded windows of St Brendan’s ruined church against a backdrop of images by Brendon Deacy which evolve in time to the beautiful sound track, ‘Ascension Intermission' by Siddhartha Corsus.
