This documentary is a salute to the men/women who have served and are serving in our armed forces. Ryan Bomar ( / ryanbomar ) and I were blessed with the opportunity to cover these flyovers with the 452nd Air Mobility Wing at March Air Reserve Base. This documentary not only provides a salute to those who have served, but shows the hard work and coordination needed to fly precision routes over various Southern California Veterans Day ceremonies in a C-17 Globemaster III.
Aircraft data is as follows:
US Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III Nr. 05-5144 - 452nd AMW (Call Sign: SLAM 19 Heavy)
A big THANK YOU goes to the following people of the 452nd Air Mobility Wing: Jon Millmann, JB Guillotte, Tyler Hamill, Ryan Benson, Paul Bugar, Osmin Suguitan, and Linda Welz.
Credit For Closing Photo: Jon Millmann
You can see more of his amazing C-17 photos on Instagram @theglobemaster
My production partner Ryan Bomar also documented these flyovers and you can see his perspective here: • Veterans Day: Multiple...

Awesome flight. Thanks for the “free” flight. I used to live in Riverside. Now I’m up here near JBLM. I retired from the Army in 1991 and flew on many Air Force planes - mostly C-141’s, C-130’s and the C-5 Galaxy. The C-17’s are awesome.

I was a bit surprised to see how they were planning to look for landmarks for the flyovers. I would have thought with current avionics technology that they could have entered the whole flight in the FMS or whatever GPS navigation system they would have onboard. I mean even new civilian aircraft (granted they have a 5 mil pricetag) have the capability of taking over the flight should the pilot be incapacitated and fly the aircraft to the most suitable airport, land, taxi the aircraft off the runway and shutdown. Having said that, these guys probably wanted to handfly the aircraft for the occasion, but still surprising they needed to search for landmarks. Thanks for the crew that decided to go to the trouble of video documenting the flight and then editing into an enjoyable watch on top of all the hard work of planning and carrying out the flight.
@LoveJT8D
@LoveJT8D 4 года назад
unapro3 I could be wrong but they had to align the plane very specific to parades and ceremonies, much of which involved specific roads and cemeteries which I don’t think aircraft avionics get that detailed.
@c17nav
@c17nav Год назад
The landmarks are programmed into the computer, plus their required times, altitudes, and airspeeds. This allows the crew to manage the mission more effectively with their visual situation.

one of these went over my house several days ago. why i am here posting on this video. i was alarmed and awed by it. it was low slow and quiet. not what i expected at all. i watched it go over like it was santa and his slay. so big .even in the sky. the low noise was a testament to the airframe engineers. they realy accomplished something. even the air friction noise was no existent. every day , commercial air liners of all sizes go over so i have a good comparison. some shake the pictures on my walls. this was very low key. if you weren t looking at it , you would have no idea what it was . or atleast under estimate . awesome thing to see.

Bob Bergen A fighter would definitely be cool but the C17 is more majestic imo.

You can get out of your seat and go to the bathroom or galley.

why do they do full flaps down? Looks cooler?
@LoveJT8D
@LoveJT8D 6 лет назад
mikegreenmusic I think it’s because it allows them to crank the engines more and to give a “roar” for the flyover as well as flying slower so folks on the ground can enjoy the view.

Slows the aircraft down and gives stability at the slow speed.

Aren’t the flightsuit sleeves suppose to be worn to the wrists?
@markweldon3459
@markweldon3459 5 лет назад
“Sleeves may be rolled under if not performing in-flight duties. If rolled, sleeves will not end above the natural bend of the wrist when the wearer’s arms are hanging naturally to their side.” Straight from the regulations.

As an Air Force vet I’ll gladly quote Regulations. Heck, actually help write a few. Clearly you didn’t find them that important. Might have had some bearing on your “high year tenure” retirement as a TSgt.
@markweldon3459
@markweldon3459 5 лет назад
TSgt...well I guess I nailed that one. As one former “blue suiter” to another, you might want to avoid snarky little quips such as...”So, you can quote regs all you want, but unless you do, what we do, on a daily basis, for 300+ days a year, EVERY year, then you don't have a clue.” Such posts make you sound like an arrogant ass. End of discussion.
