@@owensanfordstuff Sorry, I worded it wrong. I meant to say that it's amazing that the author of the best selling children/young adult series in the world shifts gears in a major way to write an interesting P.I. Detective series for adults. So, she writes for adults as well. Well done.
Watched all three seasons so far on HBO, and I finally realized something. This show is kind of like _The Avengers_ with Strike as John Steed, and Robin as Mrs. Peel. Only difference is that C.B. Strike contains no laughs. Still a good show. Well-produced, well-acted, etc. Very serious. I think a little too serious, but that's just an opinion. Both shows have the audience wondering if the the two main characters will ever get together in a romantic way.
OK guys, I don't know that how many of you know this but he is son of Dr. Watson and is aptly filling his shoes. Because only a child of Dr. Watson could carry legacy of the great Sherlock Holmes.
HBO is quality. AMC and Showtime are behind HBO but often sometimes produce series on par with HBO, FX can produce nice series but quality sags at times. Netflix usually makes really low quality content but can sometimes create a really good series, until they botch it for money reasons. Cinemax does not come close to HBO level. I am sorry. Cinemax is more like FX level but still below.
The characters were chosen very well, the actors are excellent, just my opinion. But the way they changed the books are horrible. The characters in the books were deep and real, they had charisma, talents, good and bad habits. The cases were complicated, the Enlightenment very complex. None of this has made it into the series.
Yes, because it's still the same original series, and at the time still unaired in the United States. Therefore, new. They advertise American shows in the UK the same way.
no no no, why do you FEEL THE NEED to polish the characters and make them all perfect and good looking!!!!! one of the best aspects of the books was the fact that Strike was overweight, and heavy, and panting. he was also really hairy, regular looking and had frizzy "pube hair" !!!! this is NOT OK!
I know right?? I watched the first 2 episodes and strike is very cocky and arrogant and I never remember him being that way. Like he never thought himself better than anyone yet in the show the way he talks to people borders on condescending. Let's hope the newest book doesn't write strike like this.
For me he's also sympathetic and cares about Robin, give further episodes a chance. I think the way he behaves still rings true to his character after endless misery (lost leg, failing career, debts, failed relationships).
@@Hailey-pq2gl Completely disagree, I don't find him cocky in the slightest. He treats those close to him with real care and I don't think at times he does think much of himself. He has maybe an arrogant way of talking to people at times during that series, people that don't seem to have any common sense, but I think that just has more to do with the cadence of his voice. I found his character to be just a regular bloke (nothing fancy or over the top) who happens to be a keen investigator and puts his time in to caring/helping his clients. I get sick of all the detectives that do no real detective work, and figure out cases by luck....or have some secret power to figure things out (human lie detectors, over the top intellect and other shite). I like that they don't just skip over the investigative part or even the travel that it entails. It helps show the complex relationship between partners,, through-out the investigations. He's just someone who cares about his cases/partner who has had a rough run of things between his leg, his past relationship, his unstable practice. Yet he throws his energy in to the one thing that gives him true solitude, helping others through investigating. I found the whole series bloody brilliant!
Books are almost never the same as the movie or TV show. Rarely does that happen. That's because books have so much internal dialogue and you just can't show it on the screen. Television networks are looking to make something that will be visually appealing and interesting for viewers. I've never read any of the books and I don't care if I ever do. I just watched every season in one week and I loved it.
What an thoughtless comment. Why not watch the series or a sample of his acting before you judge him based solely on superficial impressions? If you did, you might find that he is a talented, charismatic and charming actor, and his unconventional looks make him (to many, including myself) all the more attractive, and wholly appropriate for the role.
Grainne Mhaol I don’t think he looks unconventional, he looks like any normal person and I’m not against his acting. I’m only saying that the type of a character he plays doesn’t seem to suit the way he looks or at least that’s my impression. I’m not some sort of a face expert, I’m just a simple guy with an opinion.
Watch the show - you might change your mind. Any adaptation will change elements from the book, but his performance and the chemistry between him and Holliday Grainger makes it work.
I saw the name JK Rowing and I was in. Boy,was I disappointed. I've seen school plays better than this. There's a saying that if nothing happens in the first 30 minutes then nothing will happen. This proves it because nothing happens for the whole hour.
The show was excellent. More than eight million people tuned in to watch the show for each episode. That's far better than big named Series in the United States. It was fantastic.
Was never even slightly motivated to read anything she's written or watch any of the HP films. Would see videos of HP fans tearing up as they expressed their love of the books, thought, I'm a reasonably empathetic person but these people are really, really sad and warped. Then I started hearing about her sick opinions on the issue of gender dysphoria and it was the final nail. I'll NEVER watch anything with her name connected to it in any way; I'll eat my own feces first, and relish it. My own new acronym: FJKR.
Instead of listening to what other people claimed she's said perhaps you might have taken the time to actually find out for yourself? You will then discover that far from hating on those with genuine gender dysphoria she supports them. What she does has an issue with is the state and it's agencies attempting to eliminate women rights in order to placate trans activists. She stands up for women rights and fails to see why trans rights means removing women's rights to privacy and dignity and to their name. We don't want to be referred to as 'bleeders, breeders and chest feeders' we are women. Incidentally one of the characters in Silkworm is a trans women but I bet her detractors didn't tell you that.
