U blip the throttle an short shift in 1st2nd3rd u don't realize ur doin 40 r 50 fast an u think ur taken it easy an jump ur fixn to hit , I never flew that high n far on my 250 wide open, , an u hear wind an see ground rushing by u know ur on a 500 2 stroke,
My first adult dirt bike was a 1986 KX500. To this day still haven’t found anything that gives you that feeling. Now riding a 2024 KX450, it’s close without the soul. Nothing is as fun as a big bore 2 stroke.
Ktm 500 4 stroke. It had so much power when I first got it that when I would be riding down a bumpy rocky trail and my throttle hand would be twitching slightly from the vibration the bike would be roving with every bump. The throttle was so touchy that i wouldn't want to ride it when tired.
82yz 490 first mx bike ... you'd better be pointing the direction you want to go when you throttle up ... cuz you ain't turnin till you hit a berm !!! Now ... '14 kx450 and '98yz 400 that I'm waiting for the call from the Smithsonian for. 😅
I don’t know most peoples dirt bikes was not KX 500. Unless you start out riding dirtbike it 25 years old and knew how to kickstart it because if you didn’t, it would bounce you back like a Harley that just seems like keyboard warrior talk to me and I grew up racing motocross for 14 years and a race district 5 all over the country what you started on great for you. You’re a hell of a guy I rode both KX 500 CR 500 and YZ 490 so technically all three the YZ 490 was monster just like the CR, and KX is right there with it. You can’t complain about any of them, but I’m a nobody.
@@atrain882 No keyboard warrior here. Just remembering the past. Yes it was pain to start, but you eventually figure it out. Kinda the same as you did. Congrats on your experience and accomplishments.
Your excitement is well dessert. I rode a friends yz 490 back in 1986ish. I'm 5.6 weigh 115 pounds. My KX 125 felt slow forever after. Very nice 500. Love 2 stroke. 👍
You don’t sound stupid, every time I ride the 500 I yell my head off half the time. A lot of o my gods and holy shits. Only other bike that gets me yelling is those dang little 85s. Just can’t help myself there so fun.
96 Kx500 and a 24 Kx112 Is all Im going ever need! I love the feeling of going all out on a smaller trail or a homemade one my friends made in the country with us riding ktm 85,105 and my kawa 112 that i picked up the same day
everyone has the same reaction to the cr500 it vibrates a lot that's how you know it's powerful you barely hit the gas and it takes off like a rocketship
Well…actually it wouldn’t, but it took a whole lot more finesse to ride a 2 stroke 500 fast. The riders now just don’t know how much easier they have it than the 80’s and 90’s riders !!
Oh my! Stalls the bike, and has to be shown how the kick starter works. What a "progressive" generation we have growing up. Wanna bet he cant read an analog clock? Jeeeeech. I hope he does not get hurt in the rest of the vid. Might be some "child endangerment" charges against his parents. It is amazing, scary amazing, what we learned in the past, and no longer have knowledge of.
Yep, even C-riders used to be a lot faster in the corners in the 2-stroke days. It helped when we had tricky jumps (and they did not have to be huge), right after a corner that you could not clear with out good corner speed. Now the jumps are in the middle of the straight, can be cleared from a dead stop in the last corner,---so why work on speed?
Do you know why you get paid by YT if you have enough viewership for a channel that is not really yours? Watch the political and propaganda ads on your own channels sometime.
You did Good....Minute 2 you were Twisting It.. Brings Back Memories.. Add a Galfer OS front rotor with Stainles brake line....One Finger Brake - You can go as fast as you can Stop
You cans the the idle up a bit, but we don't know how to tune a carb anymore. I set the idle higher on my 2-stokes so they don't stall as easily when entering corners if I am using the clutch entering the corner.
That was funny AF 😂gets on a big bore and instantly terrified, couldn't get out of 3 rd gear ,yep big bores are seriously powerful, you have to be an exceptionally good rider to handle one
This is why MX riders wear boots like Darth Vader. That kick start will snap your leg 😂 I rode a KX 125, when I was younger, around a track. I looked a bit pale afterwards.
Keep in mind those years, they were instant full power . They were tamed quite a bit as the years progressed love my 96 250 , but the2000 cr 250 is a rocket an my favorite
The Honda CR500 is just bad! It’s the baddest bike ever made and everybody wants one. Here’s a secret! What the factories did was make a smaller piston and less power to make them really manageable and fly. As we all no that maybe only 10 humans could ever handle a full on CR 500. Make the engine a bit smaller and that bike is incredible. Yeh, I know! Nothing like the sound of an CR 500 and it’s violent power and I agree. I raced them for two years and did very well because I’m a big guy but I hated racing them. They were way too much to handle. My sponsor made me race them. When I finished a little 8 lap race I was worn out and I was in danger good shape. Honda is sick for not creating new CR 500’s with today’s technology. There would be a 2 year waiting list. Since they don’t make them then someone should. The only ones keeping 2 strokes alive now is Yamaha, KTM and Husky. I wish they would build their bikes to outrun the 4 strokes and look so much nicer yet Yamaha is just putting plain blue on the bike and trying to make it look the worst they can and not sure why.
500 cc 2 strokes were slowly dying off in sales in the mid eighties and got worse as years went by. Same as you, power was too hard to handle and wore out riders quickly. 250's were turning faster lap times and didn't exhaust riders as fast. There's not enough interest in 500cc sales for the manufacturers to invest in. 500's these days are just novelty bikes. Ive got one and most of the time its just a conversation piece. Honda will never build another 2 stroke.
@@bmdbigfeet1031 We have to believe Honda will build another 2 stroke. They built the best 2 strokes by far with the 125 and 250 and it’s a huge shame to no longer have them. Honda is now winning again with the 4 stroke and that’s what they want people to buy but it’s still not even close to the CR250. With today’s technology the bike would be incredible. We can’t loose sight that the AMA had right allow bikes with around double the cubic inch to even compete with the 2 strokes in the early 2000’s. Part of the art of riding is constantly trying to master the 2 stroke. Well with the 4 strokes they smoothed out the ride making it easier for riders which is a good thing but they could easily do this with a 2 stroke as well but the 2 stroke will always be more violent to ride
@@zackk695 Soichiro Honda (not a 100% on the spelling so don't give me a hard time) never like 2 strokes in the first place but had to build them just to compete. I love them as much as you ,I've been through the 4 stroke revolution and had to go back to premixing. Would like to see all the Japanese re- release 2 strokes. I'm not a KTM fan but they get my respect for keeping the 2 stroke alive and thriving off road. I ride a 16 yz250x and play now and again on my 2000 CR500.
@@bmdbigfeet1031 Yeh, I understand that the CEO of Honda pushed for this but it was wrong. Very wrong! The 2 strikes were made to race. I also feel that an organization could over power him and Honda and bring 2 strokes back but the demand has to be there. The problem is everyone buys the 4 strokes now because the 2 strokes have to compete in a higher cc class which was never fair at all. I am beside myself because this all happened and continues and in no way is it fair. If Honda built a 2 stroke they would build the finest and using todays technology it would easily win if racing cc against cc which is the only right way to do it
@bmdbigfeet1031 if you crash you want the bike to shut off, 2 strokes can run away on fast idle, kaboom can happen quickly, bikes need to have a slight idle not full idle, next you do not want higher rpms right from the twist of the throttle, you will Rev to quickly if already at have a full idle 2 stroke, this is how it was in the old days when it was 2 strokes only, when 4 stroke race bikes were not even thought of, it's also a bit of a safety thing also. Hey bro do as you plz, only words from dude that has ridden many of bikes and owned a AMA sanctioned motocross track District 4 AMA, held many events on my property, shit what do I know?
C class rider? He's more like a novice rider. But at least he had lots of respect for the 500. And learn to start that beast. I had an XR600R, talk about a start procedure.
