#MAVERICKWATCHREVIEWS Guys I was excited about this watch until I saw it in person. Definitely a letdown :( But if you like Samurai's you'll love this one. Neat dial just a little too reflective for me. And the bezel not lining up is grrr.

Dont think your review did the dial enough justice to be fair. I don't own the watch but have seen the watch in person and had it with me a couple days. Not sure how you recorded the video but if you've got a light shining directly on it (seems like it) of course it's going to catch the light. Under regular light the watch often looks much darker. In terms of what they've done with the textures etc, it's one of the best dials I've seen.

I own the same watch . It feels more expensive than the older versions of the Samurai . The ceramic bezel and Sapphire crystal added to that feeling . The rich textured blue dial is beautiful but limits the occasions that you can wear this watch to . Its a perfect summer,sea,pool side watch to be honest . looks great and fresh , very solid and durable built quality that can handle any condition thrown at it .

Man this is boring. The dial is outstanding. It is subtle, not blingy. The rays are there but they don't jump up to your eyes. Because this dial is subtle. That makes it elegant instead of, how to say it, 'easy'. One of the most elegant dive watches out there. Almost an oil canvas. Subtle. Elegant.

Couldn’t agree more! I was hoping to see a closer look in this video but he just seemed to critique all its flaws without addressing the purpose of this watch and what makes it so interesting in the first place. It’s so very unique for far less than $1000. It’s meant to be worn outside with the sun reflecting, not an indoor white light. This watch gets attention without being gaudy or flashy. One of the most mesmerizing dials I’ve ever seen and for half a grand?! With sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, screw down crown and case back, and 20 bar on a special edition automatic movement… These watches are proof that you can’t make all customers happy. As for the bracelet, we were all going to swap it even if the bracelet was superb lol who are we kidding? Because it’s fun 😄 I’ll just say if you can’t outfit this watch, that’s not Seiko’s fault…

The bezel misalignment feature is an ingenious design idea and I am sure all you Seiko mugs, sorry, meant to say fans, appreciate that feature. However, on my last expensive purchase of a Seiko I found that the rotating bezel lined up perfectly at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions so I was deeply dissatisfied, sent the watch back and asked for a refund.

I absolutely love that dial. Nobody makes dials like Seiko. Hope they will use this dial for the monsters too. The AD which I bought the watch from had 2 of these and 1 of them had badly misaligned bezel. Don't know why Seiko can't or won't fix this issue.

I just got the same thing on a Samurai purchased yesterday. Made in Japan on the dial and caseback, but hangtags in English and Dollars. Happy bonus everything lines up. Alignment issues have caused me to purchase my last three Seikos in actual brick and mortar locally owned stores, after inspecting them in hand first.

I’m doing the same thing. Returned the manta ray Samurai, bought it on EBay and the chapter rings are misaligned. Gonna purchase it in person at a Seiko Dealer. May have to pay more, but at least I can inspect it before I buy.

Disagree that the dial looks boring its the best out of the save the ocean line. When I think of boring I think of the Hamilton Khaki King. I have no idea why such a plain looking watch is so popular.

If your looking at the watch under a lamp or other unnatural light it's very reflective. In natural light it's beautiful. I think seiko were thinking about real life every day use not shining bright lights at the watch face

I bought the king Samurai manta ray for $400 and the white waffle with strap for $370. They are both k models made by seiko factory in Malaysia. I also bought the king turtle for the same price. All of perfect alignment. The k series is not inferior to the j. I bought them from Shopee, Malaysia online portal. Price can be negotiated. Incredible value for a fun watch.

Great detailed review. A review of a watch I wouldn't own. Samurais, Tunas and Monsters do nothing for me. I'm a big fan of Seikos. I have a number of them, and they do have great lume. However I sure wish they'd start using Sapphire crystals more often. I enjoyed the review, can't wait to see the review of the "grail watch" you mentioned. See you then.

I like it very much. My only criticism is the stamped clasp and bezel insert. Ceramic yes absolutely, but it doesn't complement the watch as it should. Maybe different indices with the black or different colors with the same indices ? I like GMT 12 hr. inserts even without a GMT hand. The time elapse inserts fall flat for me if they aren't unique in some way. But I like watch overall enough to warm up to the ceramic quality.

I kinda like the conservative styling. But bezel misalignment no matter how slight, would make me crazy too. I like the dial color and design. But if it promotes glare, what's the point? I mean, glare's the enemy of legibility.

Mine is made in Korea, I don't think there's much difference in manufacturing, other than labour costs I guess, but at least my bezel aligns perfectly 😜😎❤️ In real light, the dial is perfectly readable, it just looks bad under that studio light. The manta rays are pretty invisible in natural light, which is kinda disappointing, but I got it to go with my Save the ocean Penguins Swimming Monster, so it works for me. Cool review.

Hey man I had the same issue lol .... i got this from an authorized dealer... and it came in this small box whereas other youtubers have been showing off a big blue save the ocean box. Then to my surprise my dial also says made in japan and the tags say SRPE33. There is some sort of disconnect between manufacturer and dealers. Please let me know what you found out @maverickwatchreviews

I understand this must be a labeling error, but this is clearly a watch made in Japan. Regarding the problem of the alignment of the bezel, I do not detect this problem neither in the watch that you show, nor in the Seiko Turtle that I have. Greetings

The white dial does look better. But I think that is only available in Japan. I don't see it on seiko Web site. Samurai is an understated design, but has a pretty cool shaped case. I think if they could bring down the thickness a smidgen ir would really accentuate those angles. Thanks for the review and disapointed about the manta rays being hard to see. Thought that was a really cool feture.

is not that bug me if only the bezel misalign, we can still rotate it right. Mine having the cyclops misalign, that's upset me a lot... it looks like as if the date is oblique. I can't believe seiko have very bad QC

I really like this watch...sans the bezel. Of the 10 different styles of Seiko Divers that I own; the Samurai case design is 3rd; only behind my SKA369 Pepsi and SRP637 Baby Tuna. I'd sell/trade my JDM Hulk Sumo in a heartbeat to get this one.

I may be lucky but almost every one of my seikos has been perfectly aligned..turtle, monster 4th gen, solar chrono, samurai, 2 bottle cap and most run 0-3SD worst being +5, my sarb and sary has been 0-1 for 5years.

I think the bezel kills the look. The dial is beautiful and case is cool. I just think the black bezel takes away from it. Just my opinion.

I like it but "made in Japan" doesn't mean a thing when the bezel is off. The dial is crazy nice. Reminds me of blue mother of pearl. Awesome on a dive watch. Sapphire and ceramic to close the deal but alignment is just annoying

Is this the same packaging for all SRPE33? Very underwhelming when I received mine, a little disappointing especially compared to some of the other save the ocean range I've seen. Great watch nevertheless. Love the dial and brilliant spec being a king model

most of the time the international version always have “k” letter on it (i.e. SRPE33K1). of it’s just SRPE33 then most probably it’s the JDM version

I think you’re right. I ordered a srpe33 and it says made in Japan on the dial in the pics. The packaging matches the one in the video I saw spre33k1 versions and they do not say made in Japan

I believe it’s due to different reference naming. The old 62MAS Reissue models are all made in Japan but for ex example SBDC053 was used for Japanese domestic market while International maker got SPB053. As this is a special and less common model, I doubt Seiko will invest in multiple factories across the world rather just produce them in a factory in Japan

I recently purchased one of these. It also seems to be a JDM in international packaging. The bezel lines up perfectly for me, so no issues there. The dial is very reactive to the light, which I consider a plus... The lighting you picked for your video - near direct narrow source overhead - is the worst to show up the Mantas. Get it in some more diffuse light and the Mantas really pop. Even when the dial catches a lot of light, the polished edges of the hands shine brighter, so high light readability is not an issue. I'm not sure what you dislike so much about the watch, but I think it's a stunning piece with a unique take on the dial design.

Why does Seiko not listen to the complaints about misalignment coming from us, is it because they know we will buy them anyway? I have 10 Seiko watches (8 divers, 1 Seiko 5 sports Sea Urchin and a seiko 5 sports Turtle) and they all have misalignment problems except the Turtle but it has a bit of trapped dust speck on the face. I still love them though. Great channel.

Was a Seiko fan a LONG time ago...not now. I will not buy Seiko. Quality control is crap. Their quartz watches rarely line up with the second indicators. Their Bezels are hit or miss. I have a solar Citizen Promaster that keeps almost in perfect sync of Atomic time--more accurate than my Gshock watches --Orient gives more bang for the buck even though Seiko owns them. Orient Quality control is spot on...perfect. I bought a Blue dial Ray II --- beautifully done for a $127.00. Keeps time using Atomic Time app ---to almost exact. It gains time if I don't wear it...about 3 seconds a day...laying flat....and If I wear it every day....it's only ahead by a few seconds at the end of the week. Can't beat it. The Gshocks which I really like) gain more time than the mechanical Orient...go figure.

Hey, Maverick #MaverickWatchReview, I got the similar SRPF79 with the silicon band and it also said "Made in Japan" on the dial even though it is an international model ref. no. Who knows they made it in Japan because they were so special and hard to manufacture anywhere else ;) Good for us though :)

None are made in japan. Only grand seiko are made in japan, the rest are made in Malaysia. Different branding for what nation its marked to. No point paying more for made in Japan.

@@maverickwatchreviews Actually, I heard that rumor as well. I hear that some parts are Chinese made and some watches are assembled in Hong Kong with these parts while the finishing touches are done in Japan to get the legal print of Made in Japan.

I bought this one on EBay. But returned it immediately due to the chapter rings being horribly misaligned. I also bought the SRPE33, and it indeed said “made in Japan”. I will DEFINITELY buy it again, that dial is incredibly beautiful. Just a knockout. I have the save the ocean great white edition, and that dial is beautiful too, but man, this one is more beautiful. Just incredible detail in the blue, plays beautifully with the light. As far as the manta rays, I was able to see them pretty easily, but I like the fact that they are kinda faint. If they were too prominent, it would take away from the beauty of the dial, and make it kinda comical, make it look cheap. Overall, gorgeous watch. Probably the second most beautiful blue dial I’d own besides my Seiko SPB083 (great blue hole). If my ONLY issue was the 12 on the bezel lining up, I would have kept it, very easy to keep it lined up on the half click. It would still annoy me, but not as much as a bad chapter ring.

All these are made in Malaysia. Supervised by a Japanese person, they say made in Japan. This kind of proves it. Same factory, mixed up tags.

I've no need to research anything. I'll sit back and laugh at the fools who get all excited at made in Japan (really Malaysia) models. Toy watches? digital ? you obviously have no F idea about g-shocks . specially the high end analog ones. why dont you google MR-G g shock or even an Analog forgman or a GWG-1000. What a way to look like a fool on line. And if you mean that the watch is computerized instead of mechanical , well yeah, this is why high end g-shocks are always to less than 1 second always on time.ask what operators or people in the military and cops and first responders use the most .. if anything mechanical watches ARE the toys

Likely assembled in Japan with Chinese parts. Unfortunately because of their "made in Japan laws", made in Japan doesn't mean what it should. It's almost impossible to get real info on that.

All the King Turtles/Samurais are made in Japan. You have the international release, the JDM models always come with the leatherette grey box and tan pillow. 👍

I didnt know it was a thing with SEIKO having bezels that dont line up - is it also a thing with hour markers - a few years ago i sent a seiko prospex back to the seller as i thought it was fake because markers didnt line up , i also took it to a watch shop first and he thought the same - now if that watch was real then how pathetic is that of Seiko to let their watches go out like that and have folks like me thinking they've got a bad fake watch !!!!????
