This is one of my favorite whistles. The all mighty shay 11 pulling and pushing the bald knob train up and down the Appalachian wearing amazing C&O 6 chime.
Fantastic capture of the C&O 6! Definitely has a similar machining to an ATSF 6 chime but has a bit of a sweeter SP 6 chime overtone to it as well. Very nice
I absolutely love that C&O 6 chime!! Question: Does the Cass Scenic RR still do those whistle blow events where collectors bring there own whistles to see how they sound? And where did that C&O 6 chime come from? Is it from the Richard Carter collection? It’s an actual c&o 6 chime, a conductor on the greenbrier express train did say it was a c&o 6 chime. Well it does sound like a SP 6 chime, however it’s classified as a c&o 6 chime.
I honestly wish the L-1 Hudsons kept their whistles after being rebuilt from their F19 Pacific origins. The 3-Chimes were just too basic. At least Daylight's 3-Chime was recently swapped for a more tone-heavy Hancock 3-Chime.
