In 1996, 1997 and 1998, Ross Rowland's Iron Horse Enterprises operated a series of excursions, pulled by Chesapeake & Ohio 4-8-4 No. 614, between Hoboken NJ and Port Jervis NY.
This video was shot October 12 and 13 1996, the very first of these trips.

I was there either in 96 or 97. Amazing looking at that yard in Port Jervis how abandoned it looks. So much track gone. That place was hopping back in the day.

Some great shots!! I'm pretty sure I was standing next to you at Moodna! Such a shame she's not running anymore, there was nothing like standing next to the tracks with her speeding by unassisted at 80 MPH

I own the headlight from steam engine #1116 out of the port Morris New Jersey yard. The 462 was a passenger train built in 1922 and retired in 1953. (GREAT VIDEO)

Another fantastic locomotive!!! You were extremely fortunate to have gotten to see so many mainline steamers. How did you get to see so many?

The 614 wasn't actually native to NJ, The main steam power that had a prominent place in the garden state were the CNJ Erie and Lackawanna Railroads as their mainlines terminated at the Hudson front.
