A couple of corrections I need to make about the Viewfinder and the LCD screen. I was incorrect in the video saying they are the same as the C300. The C100 doesn't use the same the LCD or Viewfinder. Here are the right specs for both.
C100 Specs:
Viewfinder
0.24-inch (0.61 cm diagonal) color wide-screen LCD with 16:9 aspect ratio
Equivalent to approx. 1.555 million dots (960 x RGB x 540), 100% field of view ratio
LCD Screen (Monitor Unit)
3.5-inch (8.8 cm diagonal) color wide-screen LCD with 16:9 aspect ratio
Equivalent to approx. 922,000 dots (640 x RGB x 480), 100% field of view ratio
C300 Specs:
Viewfinder
0.52-inch diagonal, color 16:9 rotatable LCD
+2.0 to -5.5 diopter eye adjustment
LCD Screen (Monitor Unit)
4-inch diagonal, 1.23 megapixel color 16:9 rotatable LCD
100% field of view
adj. brightness, contrast, color, sharpness and backlight

It helps when I shot the review video that I just finished using the C100 for a week. I had a good feel for the camera at the time I shot the review. Always better to not what to long. Thanks for watching.

Hello man. Thanks a lot for the great review. I am a HD-SLR user and I am looking a easy to use camera for many jobs. I am working in many projects where speed to move form one set up to another and HD-SLR is a bit of a pain in a rig. Will yoju recomend this camera over my 7D and my 60D's for quick turn around jobs or what is your intake in full about this camera. Thanks in advance

Hi, Great review! Have a question regarding editing. What do you use (hardware and software) for editing the videos from the Canon C100? I just want to know if I have the power for editing the high resolution footage from the C100. I have a Powerbook and works good with regular HD videos.

Magnification On the C100 doesn't record the signal magnified it's only to help you focus, but it also works while your recording.

Now, when you magnify while shooting, it doesn't record the footage magnified, correct? It only looks like that on the monitor until you unmagnify?

do you use the zacuto c100 viewfinder? I'm looking into it, but have heard that the size of it makes the camera unbalanced. Would you agree? Great review by the way!

What's the upper end on the bitrate? I'm looking to work with something that could produce a good image for a film-out.

Great review Erik. I know I'm coming a bit late to this party but the C100 mk1 has just come into my budget with the lower price, and I'm desperate for those kind of ergonomics. Do you know what the pre-amps are like for the minijack mic input? I'll probably be using my Rodes Stereo Videomic Pro until I can get hold an XLR mic. Also can you recommend any loupe type solution for making the screen viewable in bright sunlight? EDIT: I've just seen you prefer an EVF - what would you recommend? Cheers, Gary.

The battery last a long time. It's the best battery I've used on a small camera. Battery life is hard to judge. Every shooting situation is different. If the camera is on standby as opposed to long recording times or using the auto focus feature. These variables consume at different rates. W/ two batteries I have plenty to get through a long day. Both the C100, C300 and C500 use the same battery. The fuel gauge is pretty accurate. I wouldn't make a horror film on bigfoots,but maybe Bigfoot

Does the handle get in the way of a compact wide angle fisheye lens?

I've heard everyone say the viewfinder on this camera is really bad. Is that because it's hard to get to or does it just give a low quality image, because I've used handycams and they have some pretty bad viewfinders.

Thanks Johnaudio! Battery last a long time. Best camcorder style I have ever used. I wouldn't use a V-mount battery since the weight and rigging it to the camera would kill the ergonomics of the C100. I would just get two extra Canon batteries and you would be good to go as well as save a few bucks.

I'll be ordering this camera in just a few days after my next check comes in. While the mk2 has addressed the issues you've described here, I don't think the extra $1,500 would be worth it for me since this is a 5-year old camera. I'm just needing to upgrade from my DSLR and have a REAL video camera that puts out a great cinematic picture. And while some of my video friends have told me I need 4K, at this point it just doesn't make business sense for me at the moment given the types of videos I produce -- mostly local TV commercials and the occasional wedding. I also film legal depositions (which I've been using an old GL1 because SD is still acceptable) and this camera will take care of all of that. Can't wait to get this.

Thanks Jose. I edit with Premiere Pro CS6 on a md 2010 Mac Book Pro as well as a Mac Pro. AVCHD is pretty compressed but works okay on my older laptop. If you use FCP7 then transcode to ProRes and edit away!

Thanks for the review! We shoot a C100 and a 5D3. I prefer to shoot the C100 9/10 times. Great picture, great color depth. Simple focus. Don't buy without a Z-Finder or a Small HD external screen to pair with.

I haven't used clipwrap before but transcoding is easy. It's not impossible to edit just a little harder on your computer.

Wish Zacuto would get the Z-Finder out for the C100. That would be great since the LCD is on the back. Soon enough I'm sure.

I would prefer to use the C100 for the type of work I do but if your a narrative shooter and have more time to rig up the camera and have the storage to use RAW then the Black Magic Camera would be a good choice. Right tool for the job is always better than the best camera. Thanks for the comment!

At least the HDMI out is uncompressed 4:2:2. That's better than most cameras in the same price range. Add a Ninja and you basically have a better image than the C300! Crazy but true. Thanks for watching and please visit my blog at eriknaso.com
