I'm going to defend this song, and here goes: I heard this song back when I was in high school, growing up in Calcutta, India, when boy bands were all the rage. I absolutely LOVED this song from get go, and would listen to it on loop, all day. I even had the cassette! I didn't know that this was a pop rendition of another song; I believed, for a whole decade, that THIS was the original. I was kinda disappointed when, after moving to the US, I realized that this was based on another song. For the sake of my adolescent love of C21, I'm going to claim: This is a fabulously catchy song, and I will go as far as to say that I prefer it to the original.
@@meowldemort YES, I did! I loved when 107.8 used to play European and American music. It's unfortunate that now they mostly only play Hindi and Bengali songs.
It's been from my childhood playlist when phone memories could accommodate maximum of 25 audio tracks and I had to carefully scrutinize to keep the best tracks in there and this track was always there;thank you for this track,much love from Kolkata,India!👌❤️💯

Okay, I honestly dig this cover, and here's why: Most artists try to copy the original singers style and flair, he falls somewhere in between a sing-song voice and spoken word poetry. Cover artists fall victim to drastically overdoing it and it comes off as very awkward sounding. But these guys just went, nah. They captured the essence of the song while making it totally different, eliminating the trap other artists fall into. It's pop, it's synth, it's a boy and from the 90's. So what? It sounds good, and they didn't make a mockery of the original while doing it.
Being a child of the 80's, I love the original version, obviously. I was surprised to find a cover version by what appeared to be a boy band. After listening to a different cover before this one, I'll say that I was happier with this one and I was glad there was a video to watch. They should have let the shorter guy do all the Murray Head lyrics. He obviously knew the song and didn't try to sing Murray's parts instead of speak/rap them. And yeah, they could have enunciated some of the words better, but considering bits of it are likely offensive to some, perhaps they smoothed over them on purpose. Anyway, I didn't hate it. I'm glad someone thought to bring this song to a new generation, but it does lose much of it's uniqueness if you sing Murray's parts instead of speak them.
Am I seriously the only one to enjoy it ? Guys that was in 2003, boys bands were really popular, such as our actual rappers. That cover was really good and interesting !
as 10-12 year old i fucking LOVED this version of the song. as a 19 year old now i can appreciate the original by murray head my dad had shown me, while still diggin the early 2000s take in this one
A very difficult song to try and recreate especially when you consider it was Benny and Bjorn from ABBA who were responsible for writing the original for Murray Head to perform. This is not really a bad effort but it lets you see what a fantastic job was made of the original. Sorry, lads but I much prefer the original.
What ? I usually love cover versions, but not this one. My God it's got no guts, it's all on one level. I won't be listening to this ( not sweet ) in the Somerset Maugham suite !
I did not think it was possible to make an awful cover of this brilliant song. Mind you looks like they have really put in the effort to make this the most awful cover song ever...so well done to them!!!

That's the biggest issue: They just made it sound like a stereotype of a boy band song without any consideration for the lyrics, which makes it sound like exactly what it is: garbage marketed to suckers who will buy/listen just because they like boy band garbage. They should be embarrassed.
Wow. It's more terrible than I could have possibly imagined! It's like they don't even understand what they are saying and just sang it in the most stereotypical way they could imagine and no one in the production chain said "wait a minute..." This. Sucks.
This is not bad and middle cover, but still the original does not surpass Murray Head. I will not put a like for a cover of dubious and ambiguous quality

I only heard about these "C21" guys and their version because I read Wikipedia but the original "Chess - One Night In Bangkok" is a New Wave classic that was still played in the USA even in 2003. I still hear it played several times a year (most recently last week when shopping at Goodwill). You know what was never played in the USA? This C21 version... and it's obvious why. It's terrible. Irredeemable. A travesty! It has no bearing on the longevity of the original. None. Even where it was played no self-respecting music fan with good taste would tolerate this abomination. It was for children and vapid teenagers eating up this boyband crap and it doesn't deserve any more credit than that. Period.
