Great video...made it easy for me to install the ebay kit I purchased. Apparently, the manufacturers of the ebay kits don't feel it's necessary to provide installation directions. Thanks for the guidance, Steve couldn't have done it without you. Roy (76 L82 Barn find)
See you actually made a good video on wiring it most vids skipped the wiring part like I'm how to install actuators cause it's no diff from the stocks but a lil cut the wiring part I was confused about thx
I installed a set of these years go. Back then, they were over $800.00. They use Mazda Miata headlight motors. The problem is they won't last, and the gears will strip out. These motors have plastic gears and are not designed to lift the heavy C3 Corvette headlights. I went through two sets of motors already. None of the people selling kits offer replacement motors. You either have to buy Mazda motors, which are not cheap, or you buy another kit and throw the brackets away. P.S. the main issue is these motors are installed upside-down. Due to this water will get into the motors and rust will form inside and will lock them up or make them jerk adding stress to the plastic gears.
This same exact kit? I don’t think these use Miata motors but it’s possible I guess. 🤷🏻♂️. The reviews were good. But at the end of the day replacing motors is still a hell of a lot better than chasing vacuum lines.
@WhiteWall Steve it's great while it's working. But after a few months the motors just jambed up. On the first set, one motor stripped out, the other locked up.
@WhiteWall Steve I found the source of the problem. The motors were full of water. Theee motors are installed upside down compared to how they are designed to work on the Miata. Mazda has rubber caps over the motors to keep them dry. Since the motors are upside-down, the caps are useless. I would suggest taking the motors apart and packing them with waterproof grease.
16:15 So the motors are constantly working keeping the headlight up? I don't think they will last very long. Any updates on the longevity of the components? 2 tomatoes for not firing up that badass set up..lol
That’s not how they work. They have a switched on and switched off. Also the car had a major oil leak at the time of this filming and I didn’t want it to leak everywhere. I was only tasked to do the headlight motors.
@@juansalgado6212 no you have to use the signal wire from the headlight switch On the floor mounted it is a blue wire. On the column mounted it is the yellow wire. But always check with your testlight before making the cut.
In the video I explain what wire. On the floor mounted dimmer it is a blue wire. On the column mounted dimmer it is a yellow wire. But always check with your rear light before cutting.
You can splice into the dimmer switch. But you have to go somewhere that you get power when the lights are activated and the headlight switch is the best place.
@@WhiteWallSteve yes, but doesn’t that wire run outside the firewall somewhere? I’m just trying to make it easy. I get nauseous working under the dash.
FYI 1976 Corvettes had the weakest frames of all Corvettes. If you ever buy a 76, get a pre76 frame. 1982 & 84 had the boat anchor crossfire motors. Replace the wiring harness with a 1980 harness and bolt in any other 350.
