Thank you! I am learning a lot from you. I recently bought a 1984 Corvette that needs many updates, and I plan on doing as much as I can.

Great job Chris . Another one to "save". Even folks who don't like C4's gotta admit that design scheme is accessible and kind of fun to work on. I sure have learned a lot from your videos. You may regret it if you sell it. But I would like to watch the next project. Cheers !

I bet when he sells it he gets another down the road. It seems like he really likes this one but it wasn't in his plans to keep it. I just hope that when he gets another he'll love it just as much or more.

As usual Chris good job. Seems like you are not afraid to tackle anything. When you are a little gun shy you have someone else do it. Your right the C4 does look good. Steve 😊

On my 1986 (w/Z51 suspension), there are a lot of differences. The rear shocks only have 2 18mm bolts. One on the bottom and one and on the top. And you only have to remove the one 18mm on the bottom and then slide it free. On the front, there is no panel to remove to get at the 5mm socket on top of the shock. I'm simply making a 1.5" hole in the top of the panel so I have access to the top of the shock. I'll use a rubber grommet to fill the hole when I am done.

The other day as I was installing my exhaust I looked at my shocks and was like I bet this is an easy project when the time comes. Sure enough you made it look super easy. I don't think I need to replace them just yet but I may in the next year or so. Currently at 79k but it still rides smoothly and takes bumps well which says a ton considering Wisconsin has craters all over the roads. My car didn't come with too many records but I see parts with dates on them showing things have been replaced. Next time I'm under the car I'm gonna look and see if they're marked at all. I'm gonna be sad when the C4 goes. The angles you record at and information you give and diy content is just so well done!! Thanks for everything so far and the videos to come!!

Shocks on our cars a super easy! You could almost do the front ones with the tire still on! I did the KYB shocks. The reviews said still sports but less harsh than the Bilstein shocks. Also the screaming yellow and blue remind me of old school off roading shocks. 😂 but truly I like the gray clean look on a red car.

I just put new bilsteins on my 93 convertible. Took about five hours total, had to figure out how to get the actuators off. Pulled the dash bulb since it had the selective ride control. The car rides much better and handling is tight. Great job on the video, very helpful.

Thanks Chris as always. It will be sad to see that vetted go. I have really enjoyed the C4 videos immensely. I have to go back and rewatch a bunch of them so I can order some parts for mine. Planning on the brakes you listened in a prior video as well as the shocks and all the cleanup up did as well. Have new zr1 wheels ordered with the 17x11 rear wheels and want to get all that done for the new rubber comming. Running a triple black 90 conv with the zf6. Its base not z51.

Just started working on the front shocks of my '86 convertible, but that year is a huge difference to this tutorial :-D I started by removing the access panel: in your film it's very simple, but with my '86 there's a lot of stuff attached to it you need to detach first. Also the panel with my car is on the engine side, so inside, which makes it very hard to get out. Yours was on the outside which took you 5 minutes to remove. I was fighting more than an hour with mine... I guess this was one of the things they improved upon on the '88 car. Also I could not hold my shocks locked with an allen wrench, I needed a small wrench for that (and on my second shock that top of the thread was completely destroyed...). But, overall, it was a fun thing to do! It took me 2,5 hours to replace 1 shock, but I'm also a newbie to wrenching, so I go slow ;-)

I had to see his other videos to determine this C4 is an '88. My C4 is an '84 and the mounting of the shocks is close but hardly the same as shown in this video. I did not even have to remove the front wheel to get access to the bolts, etc. The rears were different, the wheel was removed. I decided to use AC Delco shocks as they were the only ones that did not brag about being 'performance' shocks. Somehow it seems that Corvettes are perceived to be only driven on racetracks and need really stiff 'performance' shocks. I have yet to put my C4 on the road and cannot report on the softness of the new ride. The removed shocks appear to be originals and are useless, so I assume the new ones can only be an improvement. I'll post a report on the ride improvement after I get the car on the road.

I'm going to go ahead and replace the shocks on my 89. I've got the original Z51 Bilsteins on the rear, and it looks like the previous owner put some real cheap shocks on the front. I'm going to go with KYB just because I don't feel like spending nearly $400 on shocks as I just cruise around town and go on the interstate a few times a year. I think my shocks are probably blown as when hitting potholes, etc. it feels like I have no shocks as I feel everything and I can hear lots of noise in the car every time I run over something or hit speed bumps, etc.

Hello, I love your channel, your work is incredible, I wanted to ask you, I recently bought a C4 and I realized that the rear wheel on the driver's side sticks out a finger or a finger and a half more than that of the passenger side, I checked the etc of the tires, etc. , and 16x8'5 and 16x9'5 behind are fine, I don't see any repairs or blows and I saw in forums that many people complain about the same thing. thanks for your help!

Chris, is replacing the shocks like that on all C4’s or just ones closer to your model year? Like say the last year of the C4 in 1996. Just curious. 🤔
@jenniparker1
@jenniparker1 3 года назад
'96 is same from what I remember. Also, if you buy cheaper shocks that don't have a lock nut on the top of the rears, do yourself a favor and get one that fits it, otherwise after a while you'll have a mystery clunk in the rear, and when you investigate, you'll find that your rear shock is no longer attached properly and you now have that rubber bushing and that nut wandering around inside your frame rail, never to be seen again.
