1967 Mustang
This vehicle came in with the wrong valve body on it so I can almost guarantee it has been being driven wrong. Not that big of a deal, the customer will just need to be informed on the proper gear selection. The valve body that is on it is a green dot valve body. Which means if you put it in the regular drive gear that you are used to it will take off in 2nd gear and shift to third. If you put it in the drive position that is normally 2nd gear but has a green dot next to it it will shift 1-2-3. In the video I got the relief pucks flip-flopped when I show you what they look like but on paper they are right. PATREON: / curmudgeontransmission

SO glad YOU hav this vid up considering now whtr to rebuild my C4 (at home) or not/if special tool needed too etc....... AGAIN sir u gotra be 1 of the best Trans guys to ever do it

Only special tool you will need for this one is some way to compress the return springs on the direct drum.

Having never rebuilt even the simplest of transmissions, like a C4, C6 or 727, etc, I question why you wouldn't soak the clutches. I've heard of it being done both ways with the "preferred " method being to soak them. What difference does it make?

None that I have observed. I get this comment all the time. None of the builders I have known do it either. If you want to soak them, soak them. Thanks for watching.

Hey Man great work, getting started on rebuilding my c4 unfortunately. Was leaking to hell so I replaced the selector shaft seals and o ring. Car only want to go forward when I run through the gears. Any idea what this could be?

Think you mispositioned the manual valve on the linkage.

Does the out put shaft supposed to have play or movement where it goes into the trans

My c4 bangs into reverse and no 3rd gear any idea what would cause this shifts fine otherwise

Make sure it is not idling too high for the bang into reverse. As far as the no 3rd. You have reverse and it works off of the same drum so it is capable of it. Check the vacuum to the modulator first. If it is OK you have a valve body or governor problem.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission thank you very much👍I suspected it to be a stuck valve being that reverse works, I have the idle set really low and I checked the modulator and it’s holding vacuum thanks again for replying.

Wrong: Didn't lube the rear servo, airgun to put parts on, even amateurs know to soak the clutches before assembly, and installed the bands dry. Okay otherwise I guess.
