You got the sub. Here's why: Incredibly clear step by step instructions. And no janky music bed. Thank you on both counts. I've not done brakes before but now I understand the process.
Absolutely awesome!!! I knew they'd look great, but, to be honest, the actual result once mounted is even better than i expected. Great job, Chris and great explanation too, as usual.
DON’T FORGET THE LOCK TIGHT GUYS! I did this conversion and one of the pins came out while driving. The pin wedged between the caliper screw hole and my wheel spoke, locking the wheel while I was driving. Not only did this cut through the inside of all 5 spokes, but it i was driving on the highway I could have died. These pins do not need to be removed so I used red lock tight.
Great vid. I’d recommend swapping out the ceramic pads for Powerstop Z26 carbon pads. Much better bite than the regular ceramic pads. Also, always bed your brakes. There is a reason the manufacturer of the pads and rotors calls for it. It allows the two surfaces to wear evenly. If you get any shudder in your brakes, re-bed them to remove imperfections.
I ordered the full front kit from Summit Racing (Brake calipers, pads , rotors and brake lines ) it has been back ordered since April, but I’m curious if I will also need the Retaining Pin Kit since the calipers are brand new from Powerstop or will it come with it? I hate delivery date keeps getting pushed back! I want them!!
very nice info,, I am in the middle of upgrading my 2008 c6 with c5 Brembo calipers that i bought real cheap from this guy, he told me that it would fit my c6, and i just saw it it is true,, ,coz I haven't try it yet I was looking for this info,,,,i think i made a good buy,,,225 for the whole set, with front 13in slater disc, thx bro,, keep it up the good info,, thx thx and thx,,, !!!!!
Do you have the SKU for the TPS Brake line? I see SKU TPS-SSBLC6 but it says its for Base/Z51 and since these are Z06 going on a C5 I can't tell if these are the right ones. Thanks
I know you stated the 18" rims are required. I have aftermarket 18" rims all the way around. What is the minimal inner diameter of the rim for front and back to fit these C6 calipers?
@@mycorvettelife I need to find out the complete diameter of those braking systems and then measure the inner diameter of my rims. Plus the offset, and or back spacing.
I've been following you for a couple years I got a 04 convertible I've just put 19 inch wheels all the way around I have the C6 front brakes. But I have one hand had a stroke 8 years ago 4 months after I bought my car. Got to get somebody to do it for me. I wish you was my neighbor. I'm going to try to put my front calipers on the back in my C6 calipers on the front
About the wheels. Are the wheels for the Z06/Grand Sport a bit wider than the base coupe. With that, was there any issues with the wheels fitting inside the fenders?
Hey brother thank you for sharing this video, I would like to replace my calipers on my c5, question...those c6 z06 calipers fit directly into a c5 corvette? Or needs spacers?
Hey man, great video. I purchased used c6 GS brakes. It has the brake lines still attached to the calipers. Could I just use them on my c5 or so I need to order new ones like you did? Thanks👍🏻
Thanks for this video..want to do this video so bad..just bought a new set on my stock rims only have 5000 miles on my 2004..guess it can wait..definitely on my to do list.
wow, excellent work. Very detailed video for this. I am having the hardest time finding the calipers new. RockAuto doesn't seem to sell them anymore but I think I found a good alternative going with Wilwood setup. Have you had any experience or seen other vettes in comparison with the wilwood brakes. Cheers!
Thanks for the detailed video on this project. I have looked all over RU-vid this evening and your video is by far the most informative and helpful, hands down. I am currently replacing the rear brake pads and rotors on my new-to-me 2013 GS. I am now subscribed and looking forward to seeing more of your content.
I'd consider using one-piece pads instead of the 3-piece setup. Hawk, and I'm sure other manufacturers, offers them. They won't taper like the 3-piece setup, and there's a lot more mass to disipate heat.
Great job,Chris. You make a hard job look easy. Of course, having the right tools helps! Some of us have to improvise using an adjustable wrench. Its nice having a complete garage set of tools at your disposal. Looking forward to part 3, and all your future help videos.
Hey Chris love the video, and that you listed all the parts and where to get them. Very cool man. But you didnt say a torque specs on the caliper retaining pins. I'm installing mine this morning. What did you torque your to? Again....fantastic videos bro.
Great video. Thanks for the tips, especially the savings on the pads and everything. WOW Rock Auto really has great pricing! Did you polish your suspension knuckles at some point or are they newer??
Great Video Chris I want to purchase set of C7 rims for my C5 I read so many positive and negative reviews on the topic. The price on EBay is around $800. Will they bolt up or do I need spacers. Not to crazy about spacers.
Since the rotors are directional drilled, wouldn't both front rotors have to be two separate part numbers and both rear rotors two separate part numbers? If you put the same roter on both sides of the front then one of them would be rotating backwards.
Just before the 8 Minute mark, why would you put the lubricant on the back of a pad instead of putting it around the lip of the piston? It's clear to see in the video and for the viewers and this flat area that presses against the pad is what should be lubricated. That's the part that rubs against the back of the pad and indiscriminately putting lubricant on the back of the pad is not only a waste of time but if done improperly that's where the "brake squeal" is generated. It can be compared to wetting the finger and rubbing the top of a wine glass and you will find you can go very, very slow and create a big squeal! I'm watching the videos because I too would like to put C6 brakes on my C5, except I will go with carbon ceramic discs and of course overall wheel diameter will need to be increased. Now back to the video!
@@mycorvettelife you missed the point altogether. Most people don't understand that brake squeal is not due to the pad touching the disc! And as for the cost, Tell Me Something I Don't Know!
