+zach stroh (miata_mafia) maybe with a real drivetrain. my bone stock 95 civic would give my likewise stock 76 280z a run for it's money, I think the honda might actually be quicker. these cars deserve and want more engine
ken frazee yeah those honda motors are like bricks they can handle almost anything and when they break they so easy to fix, they definitly compete with the six cylinder jdm legends we all love
I don't think it's ever done a quarter. I'd predict low 11s-mid 10s. High 9s if he can get it to hook better. You can see the Vette's traction give it a jump on the 240 in the video.
+Freddie B Yeah but when that datsun was bought, it was never a fast car. When you build a car to make it faster than a fast car that was bought, its more respectable.
I can respect that but their are some people that want to leave their cars pure as it came from the manufacture like Ferrari owners and owners of cars that will become collectables in the future like the ZR-1 and ZO6.
Had a 240 with a 350 6sp in it and they're pretty quick, course it was lighter than the 280. The vette even with no passenger is still 5-600 lbs heavier. That said if your going for top end the Vette is the way to go, my Z at 132 ( about out of steam for the HP I had) was getting ready to become an aircraft. Without a lot of pan work, splitters they're not stable at super high speeds IMHO..
Sick 280 but the Z06 is straight sex. Glad to see you out putting it through the paces. Send it to Dallas Performance for a TT kit and I can't wait to see it at TX2K13.
the ls1 and t56 in the 280z is only about 50-100 lbs more than the straight 6 that was in it stock and without the heavy front bumper and all that good stuff it should be around 2600 lbs, wiki isnt always true
Simplify. Then add lightness. 460HP at 2300 pounds (this car) is better than 660HP at 3300 pounds (FBO w/Heads and Cam Z06) and WAY better than 860HP at 4300 pounds (FBO+Pully Hellcat), especially if you're also more aerodynamic than the heavier cars. Vmax won't be the same, but not many people are out here doing top-speed comparisons, and it only takes roughly 500hp to get to 200 with efficient aero. Most street races start between 20 and 80, and run to 100-180mph, and almost everything at the track is from a dig up to 140 or so tops for 1/4 mile street cars. In those speed ranges, raw power to push higher top speed or transient speeds past 120 isn't as important as the dozen other benefits you get from running a lighter car with the same power-to-weight ratio.
you clearly dont know anything about nissan. the ls series is just more popular and readily available and yes it is a god of engines but ill take a high revving nissan v8 any day. and have respect for nissan they have had there shit together from the start ...... unlike gm i should know my fam works for them
This is a 280z, it has nothing to do with the 240sx. And the old S30Z's are awesome. there have been swaps everywhere from SR20's to Viper V10's. There's a few with jaguar V12's in them even. One guy WAS swapping in a 13B rotary, but I believe he sold the swap due to personal reasons (he was about 90% complete)
Peak hp with carbs or a fuel injection system older than me. Don't get crabby because someone pulled out your precious L24/26/28 in favor of a LS1. The LSX series is a american engineering at work, why does everyone swap them into Datsuns,Mazda's, Fords,Dodges, Its because they get the job done. I personally am a Ford guy but its getting hard to stand behind them with Chevrolet kicking ass on a regular basis with the LSX's
Yeah I like Porsche's, but that one looks utterly homosexual. LS's made loads of power. Especially for when they came out? What other NA engine in 1997 was making 300hp? LS1s were crazy for their time. And now, there's even better swap choices. The Gen III LS engines are amazing. Big power in a small package, with aftermarket parts EVERYWHERE. And when you boost them, they make tons of power on only moderate boost. /watch?v=XCPEeDsYPZ4
i do agree with the weight, i love the how the ls is aluminum but, i think that the 2j and rb are better in the sense that the car is made for a long block engine and "in my opinion" they fit in to the bay better than a v8 or even a v6 plus you dont need any large fabrication mods.
yeah you are right.but but i guess it all comes down to opinion. "my opinion" i think that z's should always have a Nissan straight six weather it be a rb or 2j or a stock l24-28. i guess in a way im kinda a purist. oh and nice 280 by the way.
Any way you could post the set up? Like what trany and gears, as well as rear end and ratio. also suspension set up. I personaly would love to duplicate your results. Pls and ty.
In regards to swapping in a quad cam v8 vs an ls1 why would a community as obsessed with weight as 240z swap owners ever consider a mill that weighs 150lbs more and makes less power?
I had my suction cup mounted on the outside of a cummins diesel truck, fell off at about 60km/h. Video on my page. Now i'm too afraid to mount it anywhere outside the vehicle lol..
Yeah tell that to all the people swapping LSx engines. That has got to be one of the most moronic things you can say at this point in time lol. BTW that is one flamboyant profile picture ya got there.
I can give you the name of a guy that does twin turbo Vette engine installations into the older 240z and 260z cars. 240s are the best they are shorter I had one in high school. PM if ya want.
if i may ask how much did the swap cost including diff, suspension, tranny wireing harness, etc......i know what heads ,cam long tubes etc cost...... i want this for mine
Have you guys ever had problems with your gopro on the outside of the cars at highspeeds? I don't fully trust the suction cup mount yet. That 280z is fucking nice :D
Well in your defense the z06 did have an extra 160-170 pounds extra because of the passenger, would have been fair battle if it was just go pros on each car.
aftermarket is not big for the nissan v8 simpley because the import guys don't support the engine. Why would you not swap an engine that has more support.
my comment was in regards to your comment about the Nissan V8. If there was as much aftermarket support for it the 240 guys wouldn't swap in a LS motor.
Actually, a V8 in an old Z is better than a straight six. Being shorter, the V8 gives the Z better weight distribution (it will sit behind the steering rack even) And they do make kits to bolt in v8's so the fabrication mods is the same as swapping in an RB or 2j.
???? The 240Z weighs about 2300lb, maybe less with the lighter LS1 engine than the stock cast iron block/aluminum head straight six. The Z06 weighs about 3200, so it's probably closer to a 1000lb than a few hundred.....
I've seen Z cars(240 through 280) weigh anywhere from 2250 to 2800+, so yes, an automatic, A/C equipped 280 could very much weigh what you stated(per Wikipedia), but with the bumpers removed and other items, I'm sure this Z is closer to 2400-2500lb as opposed to the Z06's 3200-3300. The Corvette is a much bigger car than the Z and the Z's unibody isn't made of super duty steel. The way it pulls on the Z06(with similar rwhp estimates), this Z has a big advantage weight wise IMO
280z weight 2875 according to the wiki on these cars. Its not a 240. I am sure the trans weight a but more too. What about the rear, did they change that out. I stick by a few hundred pounds difference.
