MAN!!! If you ever wanted to trust age and wisdom. (as you grow old), here's the perfect example of a guy who's seen it...lived it....and knows his sh*t. You too will experience similar situations in whatever profession you may be. Don't fight it as it's a natural progression of life.

I am glad that SP 4294 still exists and is preserved in a railroad museum, this locomotive was the last "Cab Forward"/ steam locomotive built for SP in 1944. It's a shame that SP 4274 wasn't preserved as well, due to the 4274 having excursion service history pulling passenger trains during 1957. The "Cab Forwards" were impressive and unique articulated design type locomotives, and the Southern Pacific rr was the only railroad to purchase this interesting style of articulated steam power.

He made a comment at the beginning (0:16) that 4294 was the last one standing. But unless they scrapped it, there was also one in Denver. I saw it in 1991 or 1992. But of course a lot can happen in thirty years! A lot of people are more interested in getting rid of old things than they are in saving history. If anyone knows what happened to the one in Denver please comment.

@@charlalong8741 Hi Charla, I don't remember. A friend who lives in Denver has not seen it either, however he is not a rail fan and he has no interest. I don't even think he knows what a cab forward is. Plus I do not remember what part of town I saw it in. I want to say near a railroad museum but I'm not sure.

Why renovate steam locomotive 4 4 2 ? With hotmetal, no smoke and high speed because of the big drivers. with 40mm 9m2 hot metal it can go 320km/h. And with stronger wheels (because of the centrifugal forces). It can go 500km/h and with streamlining hull it can make 600km/h. When I know which locomotive you are working on I can balance the drivers, it's basic to attain any speeds over the normal from before. You are working on one locomotive of this kind 442? Yes one is ready soon. Balancing wheels: Front left side add 50g 2nd wheel 80g subtract 5cm from wheelrings. Right side front 100g subtract. 2nd wheel subtract 90g. OK now you can make 320km/h ? You can go faster but the wheels can explode if repeatedly going over 400km/h. clic my name. Mail my fame.
