So many lovely spots of engineering brick retaining walls with lovely green foliage overhanging to create the picture plus the arches of the bridges which a passenger will never see!!!
Great vid. Used to work on the P-way back in 1990 from Charing Cross to New Cross. So many changes. Heard it's all red zone nowadays. Great to see one of the old P-Way lobbies (the old signal box off Cannon Street bridge) is still there. Bought back a lot of great memories from when British Rail was full of old school men.
Tanu Ccio South London tracks and in Kent, Sussex and Surrey are generally third-rail DC tracks. North London - bar a couple of exceptions are OHLE AC, Tanu.
Thanks for the memories !! From 1959 - 1961, while studying Hotel Management at Westminster Technical College ( now Kingsway) I rode this line back and forth daily. My station, Woolwich Arsenal, feels familiar but none of the others from Charing Cross as I was always crammed in , standing, like a sardine that I hardly ever got to see out the windows, even on Saturdays when I went up toThe Valley to watch Charlton play. however , for the past 56 years in Canada and the USA, I was always able to recite every station from Charing Cross to Dartford !!! Conditioning, I guess.
My late father always arranged his signalling rotas at Charlton and Charlton Lane Crossing signalboxes so he could go down and watch when at home. Woolwich has changed dramatically, I was a long range sniper at the barracks which was handy as I used to do my 10 miles runs every day to my mums in Bromley where having a fry up would run back for the offical brekkers then the days work. My great grandfather was a very well known policeman in the area, his "patrol" (reads free beer and food route) started at Greenwich West, along the main road to Prince of Orange pub, then after checking the beer was fine would wobble a bit up to his house in Point Hill for his first of several breakfasts, then he would wander off across Blackheath down to the village checking the validity of the tea van, various pubs and cafe's, then down to the Royal Standard, along Shooter's Hill down into Woolwich proper, then along and back via Charlton to sign off at his station and very unsteady wander home for a scolding and sleep. He had zero arrests on his beat but also zero crime too and well respected for actually caring about his people as he called 'em.
both dad and grandad trained at bricklayers arms we moved out of the smoke when i was 18 months and dad finished up as motorman at maidstone barracks before they closed it
Like it! I'd love to see in the future any S stock with their engines converted to work with 750v DC riding this loop (these lines seems to be ready for these stocks)
nice vid my dad drove these lines any chance doing charing x to maidstone via strood but not divertin via deptford wot happened to, is it new cross or new cross gate i think the gate is on the brighton line
I assume that's CrossRail they're working on between Plumstead and Abbey Wood? Will the SE running lines be slewed over to the right (as we saw it), or will there be a crossover just outside Abbey Wood? Thanks for the video!
I personally do like the 376s! Had two earlier, both on the loop, and I must say they’re very nice from a passenger perspective, however the seats ain’t the greatest😂😂
Beno There are bleeps for the driver vigilance device (making sure he’s awake!) and a bell or horn for the AWS (signal aspects). Other than that it’s the clicking noise of the controller
I drove this route thirty years ago and i am sure i didn't use that power control handle nearly as much as you have. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
denelson83 Every railway station has a 3-letter code, e.g. CST Cannon Street, LBG London Bridge, WAE Waterloo East. Wikipedia shows them if you call up the relevant station page
at the START of this video, I noticed some BOARDs that were BLACK and about 12inches square, I am thinking they show Numbers, may be a fraction bigger, can you help with the SIZE OF THESE PLEASE
Ah, I was looking for a sign. This is a matrix of LEDs that can be lit in various patterns to show letters or numbers (letters only in this case). I’ve never been up close to one, as they’re always up there in the air and I can’t climb up, but my guess would be more like 2ft square
@@emmo999 THANKS for your replies, I am surprised and happy with what you have here, as 2ft is = to 7mm in HO SCALE. I wonder if you may know where I might get the size, thanks
tim bowerman Generally yes, but where there is the capacity for both, they have a 3xx number. All EMUs now are built with the ability of overhead, even if the equipment is not fitted. Check the roof of a 376, they all have space for pantographs yet solely work on the 3rd rail
When the train was pulling into London Bridge at the end, the train manager asked all passengers to make sure they had all their personal belongings with them. I've never known anyone taking their TVs, armchairs, sofas, wardrobes, bedding etc with them on a train?
