A cab ride aboard an 08 type Plasser & Theurer tamper from Littlehampton Havant. Note this journey immediately followed my previous upload (from Horsham to Littlehampton).
@@emmo999 I find it atmospheric. Some locations are certainly improved by the dark, though it has to be said I'm thinking of one of your 'competitors' who covers the north of England...
That is one of the weaknesses of digital cameras - in dim light, it struggles to process and pixelate everything that is dark when recording, and when taking a still picture the dark areas appear grainy. I assume that camera is HD, this is the reason why many smartphones have a light/torch on their back next to the camera. Obviously the driver (being human) has no problem, interesting to see that if the train is on a straight piece of track - the driver can see all the signals (of short blocks) and see what status they’re in and even see them change as he approach’s them.
I would happily film that section of route again in daylight, it’s just finding opportunity. I appreciate there’s little merit in completely pitch black filming, but dusk does show how an idea of how little we can see. Headlights are not very good - they’re for a train to be seen rather than to see
The opposite of cars/road vehicles that have low beam and high beam headlights, and street lighting, the only examples here being the stations and level crossings
emmo999 Well, I don’t want to sound like I am belittling you, but we went through every station without stopping, there were no deboadings, no boarding, my question would be, “What was the purpose of the run?” Remember, I am in Maine, USA, I have no passenger service, and I have not seen any since I was a young child (about 1954- and steam) Not being fresh, just curious.
emmo999 Got it. Can I count on you not being passenger trains? I think station to station so my default is passengers. There is a lot to this, and I LOVE it all.
Hi there. May I ask why you were surfing the yellows for pretty much the entire journey? Very few green aspects! It can't be that there was something in front of you of similar/slower pace? Were you just being speed-checked by a signaller? Was it because it was a journey that is not timetabled? I've no idea, just interested, that's all!
It had the purpose of turning the machine around. Tampers have a working direction, and on some jobs have to be facing a certain direction. Going in and out of Littlehampton facilitated a turn move
