On August 17, 2011 Norfolk Southern ran an Operation Lifesaver Special from Manville NJ to Oak Island on the Lehigh Line and back on the Chemical Coast and then the Port Reading Secondary. My dad and I were invited to ride on the train, but when we arrived we were told that one of us could ride in the locomotive on the Lehigh Line, and one of us could ride in the locomotive on the Port Reading Secondary. So in this video you will see some familiar spots along the Lehigh Line and Port Reading Secondary from both the locomotive and the coaches, including Bound Brook, South Plainfield, Union Station, Roselle Park, just to name a few. The crew was very friendly, and gave us lots of information about the two lines we traveled on. The train was pulled by NS GP38-3 5826 in a special Operation Lifesaver paint scheme which was followed by NS 28 "The Powhatan Arrow" NS 29 "The Powhatan Arrow" and NS 26 "New York." This truly was an amazing experience, I am very thankful that I was able to be a part of this extrodinary trip.
