A Chef’s Life plunges audiences into the kitchen of a high-end restaurant located in the low country of eastern North Carolina. It follows the trials and travails of Chef Vivian Howard and her husband, Ben Knight, and their farm-to-table restaurant, Chef & the Farmer, exploring both traditional and modern applications of quintessential Southern ingredients. Vivian’s skill in the kitchen is an equal match for the charismatic personality, radiating behind her crystal grey eyes. Much more dynamic than a typical cooking show, A Chef’s Life is a character-driven documentary and cooking series.

I'm in love Vivi! I've owned and operated a seafood and steakhouse in SC. Love southern food and traditions and talking to the older generation. Be proud young lady, enjoy life and stop being so critical of yourself. We view ourselves differently then our piers. Again, I'm in love! Your husband is a lucky man.

I just watched an episode of Chef's Life The Final Harvest, on PBS. I like Ben and I don't think the show is fair to him. I respect what he does. Good on you Ben!

I learned so much watching this show while seeing the husband undermined her in front of her wait staff and cooks in the kitchen. Maybe he had no financial input and was angry because of that but each episode he was in he put her down. If they had a partnership he could've talked at home when there was no filming or her employees around. Her parents set her up well and the community loved her. I pray she is going strong and doesn't loose everything now he disrupted her show. He should have taken a page from other spouses.

I have a hunch she is far from a battered wife. Vivian has got personal dignity and probably the communication agreement in their relationship simply showed a piece on film.
