The triple theoretically only serves one slope (Funnel Cake....known in the past as "Bo-Buck"), so having a quad there is probably a bit of overkill. The "back country" is really just one slope (formerly Bull Nose). The "REAL" back country would be beyond what used to be West Ridge, but is not so heavily excavated, its unrecognizable.
It's incredible to see the transformation of Caberfae over the past decade. I had the opportunity to ski there a few years ago on a "back home" ski trip with my brother. Was that old lift line a T-Bar at one time? I've seen old photos and maps that seem to confirm that it probably was. I would agree they're planning a new lift or a relocation of the old Hall equipment (with serious modifications) to this "back country" area. I hiked the hill two summers ago during a Michigan trip from Colorado and they had a similar lift line profile layout with a cone up top to mark the return terminal on the now new Shelter triple. It's so comforting to know Caberfae is in great hands and being improved yet retaining much of it's historical past! Thanks for posting this✌
Yeah, there was a T-bar up Bullnose and a few more T-bars and ropes. Before my time. We had a cottage near Petosky as a kid in the seventies so we skied those areas up there. The couple times we tried Cab there wasn't much open with very limited snowmaking I believe just the short lift that was aside No. One, was open. I bet there were a lot of baren days there back in the seventies and eighties. Moved to the area for the recreational options about 28 years ago.
