Man you just made my day. Thank you. I haven’t played in over 20 years. Just ordered an evh Wolfgang special and it arrives tomorrow. Thi was the fist song I was going to mess around with
Subbed! I agree , I absolutely love this album. When i came out i was still young, my dad got it on CD. Was that time Cds were coming out and players at home. This was a great sound system tester. I love the riffs and sound scapes of AFU, Sucker 3 Piece, Cabo etc. Awesome album and sweet 80s tone.
Great lesson. I feel that Eddie's playing advanced immensely on 5150 and ou812. I saw him live vh 1 tour vh 2 tour and monsters of rock with Sammy. But I feel the albums with Sammy are a lot fuller for sure. Thx marty
This helped me so much. When you break the songs down like you do they don’t seem as intimidating as trying to learn them yourself. I can’t believe I can play this riff now. Thank you! 🤘
I love this. Went searching for this exact song & there you were! Subbed! This song...is very special to me. Was playing at the fair on one helluva ride I was on, my dad was there waiting for me. I think it was our last fair together. I'll never forget that. 😊
Fun fact… his cat food feeder is behind the amps. There’s a little opening for him to crawl back there and eat. It’s so the dogs won’t get into the cat food. Lol. 😂😂
I love the way you break these songs down, so they seem less intimidating. Without these types of lessons, I’d probably still be watching clips of Eddie play and just be star struck. My new amp should be arriving soon and this song will definitely be one that I will give a try. Thanks Marty!
Great lesson! I too think it’s a very good album and agreed, a remastering would be awesome! Thumbs up for the Kotzen Tele, I have one also and it’s a killer axe👍 thanks again and great channel🤘
Thank you Marty for this one. I think ou812 is a kick ass album. I love cabo and black and blue. Probably my favorite songs off the record. If I can make a request...black and blue! Thanks again my friend
Appreciate the lesson! It was fantastic! As far as I’m concerned, anything Eddie wrote and played I’m all in! I don’t care who is/was on vocals. I always get lost in Eddie’s playing, no matter what. It has been like that from the beginning for me. Eddie inspired me to pick up the guitar and start playing (try 😂) a couple years ago at 51. I literally just received the 5150 EVH Stealth that I ordered from Sweetwater today. This will be the first song I learn to play with it. Thanks again!
Nice job Marty…love that song. You nailed it. EVH had such amazing natural feel and timing even on the slower stuff. That’s why he will always outshine them all. Do the solo next!
This was really awesome. I can't play, but VH is my favorite band of all time so it was still fun to watch. You captured his sound really nicely. Don't find many people who can capture his "tone" but you nailed it.
Hi Marty, our dogs are so faithful. I'm watching yours at the beginning of the solo sits down and is just staring at you and calm. Mines snoring on my bed behind me while I'm playing this song not to loud but loud enough.Your cat cut out in the beginning, lol.
Dogs are wonderful animals. My dog is by my side all the time. The only time he splits is if I turn on the plexi. It moves molecules at low levels. Haha. Fun fact- my cat food feeder is behind the half stacks so the dogs (I have 2) won’t get in the food. So that’s why the cats make an appearance from time to time. Lol. 😂😂
A lot of people saying that they didn't like van - hagar. But for OU812 and Carnal Knowledge, who wrote the music. ? Eddie, and Michael with input from the bassist. The music part was all the original band with Sammy filling in the lyrics. OU812 took me by surprise. It was a whole new level. When Carnal Knowledge came after, "standing on top of the world" was like "how could that be topped". It was epic. 🎸
Once again Marty great content and I have to agree with you oh you ate one too was a really good album and yeah I would have to agree that it does need to be remastered but of course I am more of a Hagar than a Roth fan anyway and I know that's going to upset a lot of people but oh well everyone is entitled to their own opinions everything happens for a reason and there's a reason for everything and when Hagar came in Van Halen changed but their music was more sophisticated and it worked out now their latter albums I wasn't as big of a fan of but 5150 and owe you ate one too we're outstanding albums that's when I really got into Van Halen
Thank you! Man it’s pretty simple, it’s just a Friedman BE I edited in my AX8. With some Friedman can IR’s. I think the secret sauce is I run it to pro tools in stereo and add a stereo delay, chorus and verb all in pro tools. It is wide and sounds good direct.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I bought it when it first came out, for a friend’s birthday party maybe year 2000? It was SO rough! 😂 Not long after that, I saw Sammy on the Marching to Mars tour. During his intermission he brought out a bottle of Cabo Tequila and made a Waborita with it, he passed to us and let us drink it, it was completely different and good! Sammy knows how to mix it I guess 😎
This is great! Thanks so much! And I totally agree -- OU812 is a very good album that was terribly engineered. Don't know what happened with Donn Landee on that one.
Yeh man, I ran a stereo chorus through pro tools … the stock plugin. I use a fractal Ax8 but just run it dry no FX into pro tools. Add delay and verb later. For this tune I added the stereo chorus. It really brought it to life! Thanks for watching man!!
@@johncecilia4517 hey John ... thanks man!! I am using the stick Friedman BE sim but have it running through 2 Friedman IRs (different ir's) in stereo. I didn't really modify the patch other than a little eq and gain?? I run my FX through pro tools. So my delay, reverb and chorus are all added in post so I can ensure they are ok for the mix for RU-vid. I slapped a really cool stick stereo chorus on this one and blended it just a little in the mix. I widen the overall stereo width during mix as well so it sounds huge. (Or at least that's what I go for)
FYI --- Eddie actually played a Fender 12 string electric on Cabo Wabo. Only King Edward could pull that off....A little more palm muting and you will have nailed the riff
That's not right. It's kinda close, but sounds wrong. the 3rd to 5th fret should be a slide to the fifth fret and the 320 cord is wrong, should be 3240.
Ou812 is a HUUUUGE let down from 5150.. it really needs a remix n a remaster. It's patchy at best. . I think a proper production wld have improved it 100% Sucker in a 3 piece is a great song though
I understand! Music is like food. Could be the best meal ever but if it’s not your thing you enjoy other kinda of food. I enjoy all the eras of VH … I never cared for III and ADKOT was pretty good overall. Didn’t like the production and a lot of the vocals.
your tabs are not 1/1 to what eddie played, i can tell is straight away because some of your chords just do not sound right.... check noes version and spot the differences - he reflects eddie 100% imho...
great album. fucking TERRIBLE mix though, sounds like a speaker in a coffee can. The live version of CW is a masterpiece. Eds solo is creamy af and he doesnt play any notes that it doesnt need and when it hangs on that high note then starts to break it down back into the chorusy groove, ..."chefs kiss"
Totally missed the main riff. Ed chunks bar chords across E and A and D on down pick not one note at a time. Not even close. It's just painful to watch this.
