Today we will drive around the residual remains of one of the most storied neighborhood of Chicago that was littered with infamy but possessed peculiar charm Cabrini Green Project Housing. Bordered by W North Ave on the north, N Halsted St on the west, W Chicago Ave on the south, and N Larrabee St the location is very well desired by developers today. Numerous developments are occurring today which once held litany of high rises and row houses as part of the Chicago Housing Authority's public housing efforts to provide people with low income only to falter which later was used as an example to gauge the failure of the project housing throughout the country. Few row houses and low rise apartments are still in commission today but resembles nothing like what use to be there in that area the giant monolithic high rises of the past.
More details about Cabrini Green can be found in Wikipedia:
en.wikipedia.o...
Here is a quick drive around the area to observe what it looks like in the contemporary times. Enjoy!!

People love to go here around halloween, I'm from Chicago ,and this is the most visited horror movie trademark in Chicago, Because candy man was actually filmed here, along with chucky and Halloween which was filmed in jersey but still a illinois setting

In the financial crunch of the 80’s I know someone who left a car there 24 hours intentionally for a stolen car claim instead having bank take it. Was pretty much guaranteed it would be gone or stripped n burnt out within the day parking there. Haha.

One Building would make compton or any neighborhood in Los Angeles look exactly just like a PlayGround ! When G-Rap was Poppin' back in the days many of the artists were scared of Chicago because all of the Rappers that was waiting to be discovered and turn the industry out ! Also there was this guy I heard that was inside the Hallway inside of one of them Red Brick buildings singing in the Hallway and he sounded so much better than any artists that was already in the business way back in 1991 ! He sounded better than R. Kelly or on the equal competitive Level with him !

The government knew what they were doing when they built this project, even though they knew it was becoming more and more dangerous, 11 homicides After 11 homicides on the premises in early 1981, Chicago mayor Jane Byrne moved into a Cabrini-Green apartment for three weeks, seeking to bring local and national media attention to the ongoing chaos. To no avail, it is my opinion that this was a way to gather all the blacks in a large area and make them a project exactly what it was.

it's sad that demolishing the buildings was the only solution. Many of the residents most likely never lived anywhere else but in the projects. Generations of them resided in the area. And as dangerous as it was, it was the only home they knew. So unfortunate when you are unable to decide your own fate.

I actually know people that lived in the projects that moved straight from the projects into their own single family home. That was the original idea behind the projects, not generations of unemployed people living there.

not true people chose to live off government forever instead of having goals to make it out of the projects i know its not easy but being lazy was also a choice they made and not even trying because your comfortable and thought it would last forever
@stephaniedodd855
@stephaniedodd855 2 года назад
Firstly they become projects once the factories that built them for their workers no longer had use for them. Many people stayed because of not having a spoof dependable income. People made a community the same way homeowners do and generations of their families have been raised in the same place. Most of the people who lived and stayed were not lazy or dependent on the government because they wanted to especially if you were black you had to with the lack of opportunities for better education and labor. Trust there are more self employed people and businesses owners receiving government assistance as well with a healthy income because of the deductions they get they qualify. Individuals like you are busted every day for frauding the system. Stop judging
