@@brucebobtrotter2170 I hate u with a burning passion, there is not a single ad better then this one, fucking grew up watching this and it was my favourite video let alone ad, it’s just so amazing when he starts hitting the drums it’s just fucking great, and the point is that a weird ad will leave the ad and the brand in ur head for years to come and they were just trying to associate the chocolate with joy
You all did an amazing job, this is still an incredible piece of animatronic, filmed and lit so beautifully that 13 years later I'd still regard it as one of the best short film puppetry pieces ever made. But more importantly for an advert agency, the song choice, non contextual setting etc help keep it forever relevant and effective as marketing. Bringing all of us back just to have a look at an amazing advert. Thank you
Cadbury rejected this ad for 6 months but the guy producing it just didn't give up. Finally, in desperation due to low sales, they let it air. I think it played during the super bowl, and as you probably know, it was a huge international hit.
@markguzewski5430 incorrect, it was when cadburys was dropped from every sponsorship due to the salmonella scandal in 2006-2007 so they came back with this simple advert to say "we are still here and here's a bar of chocolate" which got everyone thinking "what's a gorilla on a drums got to do with a bar of chocolate"? And it got it everyone's heads and before u know it cadburys was on your mind
Me he levantado a dos días de la final de la eurocopa y digo, me apetece un montón ver el video del gorila tocando la batería, y aquí estoy. Majestuoso.
This is also the best version of this. I don’t know if they lost the rights to it or whatever but this was the first version I saw an it was so, so good… then I just kept seeing a bunch of versions with different songs that never hit the mark
The drumming start is brilliant.. but I just love how the Gorilla, eyes closed, 🦍 loosens his neck..just getting in the zone before.. bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam! 😄😎
the funniest commercial i ever seen in my life it doesn't do as a chocolate i love cadbury then this is the gorilla ad i saw it on cartoon network after an episode of ed edd n eddy in 2007
IMAGINE the pitch for this ad! It doesn't make *any* sense, and doesn't have anything to do with chocolate. But some executive said "OK sure". ...And it was the best decision anyone has ever made in the history of mankind.
The truth is the cadbury executives hated it and said it would never go on air. It took 4 months of effort from the head of the ad agency to persuade them. I shot the ad, everyone on the set knew it the director's idea was genius. We film ads all the time and they rarely excite you on set. It works on the simplest level and the most complex. Now ad people don't understand this, they are brand and marketing and virtue signaling obsessed and risk averse. The first time you see it, it's a perfect moment. Now the brand is associated with that good feeling.
Superb advert and probably right up there with the very best ever. Just such a horrible shame that the firm were bought out by than American conglomerate who have ruined a tradition and the quality of the product has hugely deteriorated.
The product is the same taste, they didn’t change the recipe at all, although it does seem a bit lifeless now and america did get a worse tasting bar due to some ingredients being banned over there.
