As a Marine for 8 years. Some Marines can really sing the shit out of cadence. To the point that when you told to halt. You realize that 26 Marines in perfect formation and in unison just ran 5 miles and you feel great. I miss those times when nobody saw color. We were all just USMC green.
It’s very interesting to me that men of all races can be in the heat of battle, competition, weathering some type of disaster or tribulation together, etc. and see a brother in one another….yet once back in what we call “normal society” we’re almost forced to see color again smh
@@devantreparks1650 I respect your words. My experience is that in the Marines we are taught from day one that we Marines are all USMC green. Until we Americans stop seeing color in one another or in my opinion stop with Hispanic, black, Asian Pacific months, classes, quotas ext etc and realize that it’s just American history. Good and bad but learn from our past so we never make those mistakes again. But hate fills our higher education now and divides us even more. I sure hope I’m wrong but I believe that a civil war or a race war is coming and when it does American civilians will see the horror of war and hate…first hand and wonder why are we fighting our fellow Americans who bleed red regardless of the color of our skin. As a young Marine living in California at the time I will always remember the words of Rodney King “Can’t we all just get along.” I hope one day we never teach colors in kindergarten. So the next American generation NEVER sees color except red white and blue.
I was in the army in Germany in the late seventies. Our first sergeant was a big man by the name of first sergeant Rentz. He was a former drill sergeant. He taught our troop all kinds of specialty marches winning all the march contests on base. He had soul and rythim like no one else. I think back to all my fond memories of him. I was even his driver for a while. Anybody lucky enough to be under his command will have the same fond memories of him. We all called him Pops.
i got drilled in the German Navy Eckernförde, Flensburg, Wilhelmshaven. The best our navy mimicked from the yanks was the marching style.. .i had so much fun in bootcamp. Also liked the "Riflegymnastics" Also, i would have walked through fire for our drill seargent. He was a true salty sailor and joined every drill - when we made 40 pushups, he would make 50.. and he was 20 yrs older than the rest of us.. that inspires loyalty we would try hard not to let that man down. Respect to the USMC for knowing only one color! brothers in arms gotta be brothers! Too bad society is not taking an example on that. I totally understand how people can be lost after their service. It is tragic.
I was in the German army in 1999 to 2003 and I think that we were trained so much better than others we were worked hard my gf was in the ss in WW2 and our commander knew that he would work me hard and say u owe your gf n father who both served I wanted to quit 2 times but he would say that n stop quitting things all your life be a man he was right n at the end it was worth every push up run n march 🇾🇪

At 19 I was a spoilt kid didn’t know anything of life let alone combat and dealing with it God bless you God bless your dad and thank his memory for the courage to do what he did to make life better for a free world Rip x
My condolences. My dad served in Korea. He died when I started 6th grade. No one warned me what a military funeral was like with 21 gun salute pr that I would be presented with the US Flag. I did know to stand at attention from watching the funeral for President Kennedy and from dad insisting and showing me how to stand for the National anthem. I always stand at attention when I hear the National Anthem broadcast from out local military base in Anchorage.. My birthday is today and I am 63 today. I miss him.
spent 22 years total in the Army. Stationed in Germany 89 to 92. Throughout my Army days cadence calling was always lifted everyone’s spirits, especially the call and response ones
I was stationed at Spangdahlem from 1987 to 1992 (active duty). I was stationed at Ramstein from 2019 - 2022 and lived in Bruchmuehlbach-Miesau (DoD Civilian). If you haven't been back there in a while, Zweibrücken is a very nice outlet mall.
@G.D.Martin I was stationed at Whiteman AFB when I applied for position via USAJOBS. I PCS to Tinker AFB, not even thinking about my applications, and was super surprised and exhilarated for that chance to move back to Germany. If you have time left before retirement, it is not too late to apply for an overseas assignment. The only bad thing is they tax your moving expenses as income, which thoroughly sucks. I still managed to visit other countries, even with the inplace COVID restrictions. I'm thinking about hopping Space-A after September to visit my coworkers and tour around. Sorry, I really got chatty!
Laurence Fishburne and Martin Sheen played together on another military movie 11 years prior to this. Apocalypse Now. A young Fishburne was only 18 years old in that movie.
Yes ,and Laurence was the First Black Child Star on A Soap when he was on One Life To Live. He played The Adopted Son of Lt. Ed Hall played by Al Freeman. He was also the First African American to win a Daytime Emmy for his work.
When I saw this movie, I thought it was one of the best movies I had ever seen. I was about 20 year old girl living in northern Europe. Now I am 45 year old woman, living in northern Europe, and I still think this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It's the rhythm, moves and the story. I can still remember how the End of My Journey -song goes.
I had forgotten about this movie until I was listening to Sam Cooke's "Chain Gang" and it triggered memory. This was such a sad movie, but a great one still.
I've thumbed up so many comments because they highlight all my feelings, but I've stopped just to say I'M SO PLEASED THAT I CAME ACROSS THIS CADENCE TODAY. Took my breath away and I teared up throughout, as my father served in the marines in the UK. Now I have to find the movie. Thank you to all the men and women who serve their country
That's a kickass step. It was kickass performance of some kickass choreography to a kickass song. But my favorite marching scene is from 'Stripes". Pure gold.

"That's the sound of the man working on the chain... Gang... Hu ! Ha!" One of the best movie I've ever "Sheen" 😉 Its a true Christian movie, listen to the Harry Stewart theme too "en of my journey" Its above everything else a movie about redemption. Pray for all the people's salvation in Jesus name. 🙏
I was incarcerated for a minute. One of the women that was in my room worked the yard crew. They were cleaning next to the dorm one day and they broke out with this song and the shuffle. They were brilliant! Those of us inside that got to see their performance, gave them a loud cheer from inside. The funny thing is, we had just watched the movie the day before. 🤣
I used to do this in the hallways in my high school and now 24 years later, a high school buddy of mine just sent this clip to me. Told him I still do it in the hallways of my hotel I work at. 😁
I used to watch this scene on repeat as a kid and it taught me almost everything i needed to know about music, rhythm and vocals. Probably changed my life.

Anybody Remember Fishburne in " Corn bread, Earl and Me"? It was a blacksploitation movie from the '70's. I think it was his first movie.I saw it at the Varsity Theatre in St. Louis.😊
This is my all time favorite movie. I can watch it anytime anywhere numerous times. This scene and the one where they are heading to lunch where Crane sings during cadence are very powerful and emotional scenes. They just don’t make movies like this anymore.

During basic, we had a guy who could sing! I always looked forward to marching because once our T.I. realized what he had, he taught him some awesome tunes.
i work on a military base... let me just say when I bring this song/movie up, there's dayshift and nightshift, but me being 50, these youngens I work with on night shift, they don't know... I say well you all think it's a job, but this has been my life since I was born. I grew up on the base I'm working at.... i did my stupid years, but home is home..... I love it, and it's my 2nd home... this base I'm at... USA, AND THE MILITARY FORCES ARE THE BEST ~

If you dont cry during this... your not human. A group of men together in a impossible situation finding a way to survive.. Find a way to win even when all hope is lost..
We were bread, then birthed to make something out of nothing. It’s far worse now, because they have legalized slavery,so you don’t see as many young black soldiers anymore. They catch cases walking to the store…..
1st favorite childhood movie. Them coming back toward Charlie at the end was their way of saying goodbye and he is part of the squad. You see he was happy for that when Laurence said private bean fall in. Even though they were disappointed he testified.
I love this movie. One of the great underrated movie. All the characters were spectacular and it had a definitely message to it that some people just couldn't understand. The ending of the movie was so spectacular. It was about respect discipline and honor to your core even being in prison in the MPS. Their laws are stronger than civilian laws.

Love this movie. Brings back memories. This cadence haunted me for years but I couldn't remember the movie until I tried to sing it to someone and he's like " oh that's Cadence"

Even as a kid I got the message in this movie. When you see the whole film, Bean following the cadence here really gets you in the feels. Crazy thing? Today.... he would be accused of cultural appropriation... Sad world.
To me this was one of the best movies I have ever watched. Lawrence Fishburne and Michael Beach was outstanding. Charlie sheen and Martin Sheen's scenes together were intense
After donating blood, our DI taught us a shuffle like that; all the way back to the company area, some "others" say us; the next day on our little run across the parade field at Ft Ord, our DI called out the cadence on the entire company; everyone "out of step" was immediately doing push ups, and watch us march on off the field. A little fun, under all those pressures.
I'm a flatbed trucker and I drive all over the country. Admittingly, every time I drive on the interstates and I see convicts on the side of the road picking up garbage I sing this song.

This is my brother's and my anthem lol. We redid it, after both our spines got broken, to "the pain gang" lol. Classic! This was so underrated, great movie
If you still have issues gloucasame. Cats claw. Prescription can get you strong glucosamine other wise 2000mg three times a day cats claw 2000mg. Three times a day pain eve tally won't come if you take it 6 months but it will come. Back when ya stop. My father has scrapmel in his back from Korea. He passed 2012
This is what internet is suppose to be about. I was just browsing through some great positive comments about experience and about how the movie affected you. I was just listening to Sam Cooke’s version and wanted to see this scene. Great scene, great song, great movie. Thanks for the uplifting comments.

Love it. I was a fire fighter in the Air Force back in the 90’s and they had us painting fire hydrants so there was 4 of us in our bunker pants doing a cadence like this down the sidewalk. My captain would sing out as we marched along! Great fun times!

I know that Charlie Sheen gets a lot of shit and has a bad rep. But he can truly act when you see a brilliant movie like Cadence. This has been one of my favorite films since I originally saw it when it came out. So much heart/soul and a great cast overall. Also, I thought it was brilliant how they got Martin Sheen to be in it as the antagonist.
I watch two and half men everyday still. Ashton ok but Charlie is a real actor. Real talent he I wish I had his confidence i don't care too much to be a man whore though. I don't want my piece to fall off
Still a pedderass. Pedophiles get no respect, who cares if he can act. He is a wicked and sadistic kid ******. Corey Haim is dead, potentially, due to the trauma caused by this predator.
@@edwardarsiaga3569 if you still support Sheen after you watch this, if you do, I question your morals. He is a very evil and wicked satanist. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6rqCo_mWyiU.html
This was such a great movie. Fishburne, M. Sheen, and C. Sheen all do a great job. Its a awesome story that tugs at the heart and makes you laugh some too.

at 56...I still run to my marine cadence.... nothing beats the old good days....where...black...yellow...brown...white...embrace each other like BROTHERS
All these comments are so heartwarming. I love reading them. My younger sister and I use to do this dance on our way do do chores. I just pulled up the movie scene to show my husband, who had no clue what dance and song was I was referring to. The comments might be better than the my explanation to my hubby.
@DB Cooper's MoneyBags I'll take the gig 😂😂 I just now finally found out why my mother would say "Gig for Bean" when my Father or I messed up so I think that's another gig 😂😂
@DB Cooper's MoneyBags just recently it's actually really good coming from someone who really doesn't like watching movies but I've seen this, Wind talkers, Platoon, Jar Head, etc. I come from a military family these movies kind of became a Tuesday thing for me at a young age lol
Hate to admit this but I did spend a wee bit of time in the brig. I remember the "Brig Stomp", the "Shuffle Step" the "Half Step, the" Half Step Brig March", as we came back into the innermost compound.Puts Sheen's video to shame! Then with lance corporal Rudererow's we danced! Probably the only moment of joy we had.
Racism was never an issue in my old high school. I do remember our teacher bringing this in for us to see. It was a kind of movie that you just can't help but voice your own opinion about it.
ItaloCanadese yeah it wasn't an issue of you were white. kinda sucked otherwise. segregation, lynching, lower pay, shitty jobs, shitty education. .. u get the idea.
coolhari2000 no what he is probably saying is,, see I'm around 30 years old and when I was in school we all got along and only recently in the past 9to10 years has race come back in force through the media narrative
The Tech Librarian Valid point of view. however, shit was worse back then, it just didn't make news. thanks to social media, cheaper cameras, more outlets etc have brought it into light. that's all.
This movie brings back so many memories from when I first enlisted in the Army. I wore those OG-107’s OD fatigues, but we had the OD tapes, not the white and black with yellow US Army. I did wear the Khakis and had PV2 stripes on them too, by the time I made PFC they were phased out, so where the Khakis. We went to the BDU’s and the gray/green shirts with dress greens and black sweater. And that Kaserne, definitely reminds me of Germany. Martin Sheen in the movie reminds me of my dad who retired from the Army as a 1st Sergeant. Good times!
For those that have not seen this movie i say watch it. its a very good movie and well acted by all. Charlie and his dad it was amazing to see them in a movie like this. the whole cast was just great and the story line really played well.
Went to the Marine corps in 1987 expecting this kind of atmosphere, boy did I get that wrong LOL. What we generally get in the Marine corps is everyone beating each other up. I watched this after and thought no way in hell.
I first saw this movie one late night YEARS ago. It became one of my all time favorites instantly!!!!!! Don't tell me we can't do this thing called life together!!!!! We are put on this earth by our Almighty Creator to be apart of something much bigger than ourselves. At 53 years old I pray I can still learn my purpose in life but the one thing I do know is my foundation is built on unconditional love for my fellow Man
I did this in Basic training in the barracks with a group of guys from Georgia....it was fun to see and do...just to see every one in the barracks watching and sing along....those days
Love the song.Sam Cooke had so much soul in his recording. For the record Devo did a nice job on it with a different spin. If you havnt heard it check it out.
To my ears, Sam Cooke was the greatest singer ever. Just listen to him wail on "A Change is Gonna Come" and feel the hairs stand up on your arms. He was indeed taken way too soon and so needlessly.
@@Gunners_Mate_Guns hes got one of thos voices that reach into my soul and slap it around. I cant remember the last time if ever i listened to his music without my damn eyes leaking! I dont know what the medical term is. I mean dudes dont cry so thats out. Just leaking eye syndrome i guess. Extremely beautiful soul music and r&b is a major factor in flare ups of L.E.S
I can't thank you men and women enough. Best Vets gift we'll ever get! Nothing better! Please always know how dearly ya'll is loved by each everyone of us! Bless you and each and every Mom and Dad of all of you. Thank so much!
Bill Boudreau : Bill, it's Cadence. I receive updates from Stars and Stripes. Every Holiday, we communicate our military lives! My husband and I are still on the base. Working our 2nd retirements. So message was sent to those in the military, or retired. It's a brotherhood.
This is by far one of the best scenes EVER made in a movie. This is pure talent and creativity under strict lines in a clean pattern. And of course, respects for the man and women of service. We owe all of them our freedom.
