Bought a '93 over the summer, your observations mirror many of my own. One item not discussed, and not at all appreciated outside the community, is the Allanté's internal diagnostics system, accessible through the climate controls. This predated diagnostic computers, and it is impressive in the amount of detail it provides. Loved the video, I hope you are enjoying the ride as much as I have been!

It would of been an excellent car if the northstar did not have so many issues back then. I wonder if a guy could swap a late model northstar into one. At least they fixed the headgasket issues by 2004. My 2008 DTS has the northstar and it is a fun motor.

I've been looking at both Allante and XJS, and they both have their pros and cons. Performance-wise, the Allante runs circles around the Jag, esp the 6 cylinder version, and is a whole lot roomier (for such a big car, the XJS interior is surprisingly cramped). The Allante dash is very cool. The Jag, however, is much sturdier feeling, being relatively stable going over bumps, and the doors sound like a bank vault closing. The Allante shakes like it's going to fall apart, and seems ordinary in build quality. Of course, there's the jaguar simple to operate power soft top compared teh the Allante's weird multi-step procedure. I'm also concerned about the Allante rear window's ability to seal water out if left outside during a windy rainstorm, since it's only half connected to the roof. The exhaust note of the Allante is just about perfect. I feel that in person, the Jag has a presence that the Cad lacks, but of course, that's a question of taste.Tough decision.
It should have had a 350, should have been rear wheel drive, should have had a manual transmission. Making a sports car front wheel drive with a anemic engine and pricing it above everything is stupid.
I certainly won't disagree with you on the real wheel drive point. But they were going head to head against Mercedes and Jaguar in America. The bulk of their automobiles at that point were automatic, and luxurious, certainly quick but they had no need to be manuals. For the last year they fixed the speed issue with the Northstar, but like the first version of many things, It did suffer from reliability issues. Even in the '70s, Cadillac had made the switch to front wheel drive, so really it was not out of the ordinary at that point. It was Cadillac's flagship, and it sold very well when it was launched. Who installed the chrome door edge guards? Is there a cheaper way to destroy the Italian Design and flow of this car.? It’s the worse offense I’ve seen yet… and non 93 cars with anything over 70k miles are all worth less than $4k currently… just look on the internet… dozens available and not rare a bit… sorry… just the facts…
Not many available with 36k miles, and this clean. There's a 1992 92k mile car for $8k, a 14k mile car for $26k and a 61k mile car for $12k currently for sale. My $15k OBO asking price is very fair in the current market. I do agree the door edge guards are hideous, but I didn't put them on, and they protect the car, plus the new owner can take them off! Sure you can search for the cheapest cars available, and quote those prices, but this car has recent receipts and is ready to go! Just the facts! @@drivinivan sorry, even with those miles it’s still only a $6k car… lots of low mileage examples out there - these were mostly 3rd cars and garaged… the high mileage ones are worth more for parts… - 1995 Founder of the Allante Owners Association - 2,800 members at our peak in 2000 - I lead a tour to Italy with our members…
