Thanks for this informative video! The outer plastic cover on my 2002 El Dorado is disintegrating. After viewing your video it appears that the main purpose of the out cover is to protect the insulation behind it. I think my duct tape will hold the insulation in place until the car goes to the junkyard. LOL
You have the drop the engine and transmission on thos car's to do almost everything, you can drop the engine, tranny and have it on jack stands in 2.5 hours, people say its a big job, but it isn't that bad.
It seems easier to drop the cradle than it is to remove the dash piece by piece, yes? At least for a mechanic with proper equipment. Mercedes-Benzes require the interior to come apart to access the evaporator but from what I understand, the fitment and tightness is never the same afterward, prone to creaking and rattling.
Ah good old northstar engines. Such a pain in the ass to do. I find weird that the starter is located inside the engine just under the intake manifold.
What's so weird about that design? Its actually a great design for several reasons and Toyota did the same exact thing on their 4.7L 32 valve V8. The starter lasts longer and is out of harms way. And its not difficult to replace at all.
They go bad because the intake manifold gaskets are not on the sides and water and I've seen mouse nest inside where the wires was chewed. The water will get deep inside the valley and get into the starter. What was G.M. thinking. I guess it's for the rich man to bring in to the service department. I just sale mine off and buy a 1 owner garage kept Cadillac when I come across another of my liking.
whats the book time on that? 10-12 hrs? i have a freind that said he possibly needs that done? i told him better make sure its not your heater core .. the florr was wet and slimmy under the floor mat on the passenger side .. can the heater core be done from inside or is it the same operation??
@poching0521 - I own a Cadillac Eldorado and they are beautiful cars, but a mechanical nightmare to work on. To replace the oil pan gasket, you have *to remove the engine from the car*! GM had better get their act together, or they wont be in business much longer.
Not so much.....the oil pan can come out with the engine still in the car. Just have to drop the subframe a little and then it slides right out. These engines are actually fantastic and only a nightmare to someone that doesn't know how to work on a car. Its very much the same as anything else and many of the old Cadillac's from the early days.
I spent over 500 on a entire new air conditioning compressor Accumulator low pressure switch and high pressure switch of course recovering the R134A vacuumed the system down over night with it holding I hooked up my manifold gauges and put 32 ounces of R134A and 8 ounces of pag 150 in. Come to find out my evaporator needs a A/C temperature sensor. I won't be fixing it. You can buy another Cadillac cheaper than the expenses of the evaporator installation. I hate it because my 1998 Cadillac is the Concours edition 300 horsepower high output 4.6 with Bucket seat's with console shifter has all E&G simulated convertible top with sunroof and rear luxury trunk rack with the Cadillac stock upgraded 16 inch all chrome rims. Cadillac should have made it a rear wheel drive car.
Does this method also apply to a 98 Cadillac Deville? Not 100% positive if that is the problem I am having but its a good possibility. I would not know until I get the cover off. I have the hose that runs along the fire wall down to the evap but wanted to get input on it first. It is too hot here in Texas to be outside going back and forth upstairs to my apartment to get info. Rather get it now. :)
wow, I've seen some ass about elbow designs (mainly on french cars...) but that takes the cake, who the hell though that was a good idea.. (probably an accountant i guess)
What a bad design and it makes the repair so difficult. GM should really fire their engineers or uses parts will never brake. This really stops me from buying a GM motor. Great video!
I have a 1993 Cadillac FWD sedan deville (touring with 4.9). I've replaced the front discs and rotors as well as a complete tube up and coolant flush with new hoses, thermostat and belt. I still gave no heat and cannot locate the heater core. Please help
Check with the dealership's parts department. A Haynes manual is always a good place to start. You may also order the more expensive factory service manual from several sources for complete service info and specs.

can be 8 hours on a normal car to replace the evap core or heater core, basicly gotta get HVAC system out, on this car its about the ame labor wise's, so to me no diff cept just rust to dealwith
I bet you charge a arm and a leg for this job / I will be doing a 2013 f150 and a 03 Escalade helping out family and friend. Cus auto mechanic chop charge a fortune for this . 👌😀
This is ridiculous, removing the engine to get to the core, Cadillac designers are stupid or what, I will junk that car in a minute, I’m glad to know that so I don’t buy a Cadillac.
