I worked with Lee in the border patrol. He never once mentioned he was an ncaa national champion. Very humble, hard working, unassuming, patriot. He coached my son and volunteered his time to the local wrestling community. He moved on to bigger and better things. He was the epitome of what a man should be.

I was just going to say that. Lol 4:03 world champ cheering for World/ Olympic champ. David is slowly becoming my favorite wrestler ever. I say slowly because I've been watching him since 6th grade. Amazing technician.

The first tilt didn't meet the criteria for 2 points. And damn, the kid would've been awarded 3 or 4 stalling points in today's NCAA's. Folkstyle/Freestyle = Stalling vs. Can't just run and step out when convenient now.

Everyone bagging on Cael for stalling? ZERO leg attacks by Fullhart. An under-hook and a big butt does not constitute aggressive wrestling. Not sure why they consistently hit Cael for passivity whey neither wrestler would commit. Typical Iowa lovers.

@patrickm7483
@patrickm7483 4 года назад
That bugged me too. It made it far less compelling. Although he earned his points, it was initially based on a counter to Fullhart, so it felt that he was really non-active most of the match. Of course, I'm not really knowledgeable, but just my opinion.
@jsl8461
@jsl8461 4 года назад
Those were the freestyle rules at the time. Given how important this match was (qualification for the Olympics), it was more important for Cael to guarantee his win. It's less important for him to win with style. Nowadays a lot has changed. Cael wouldn't be allowed to have his fingers in Lee's face like that. Referees would have given Cael a lot more passivity calls. And Cael also would have lost points for going out of bounds (and Lee would have been able to drive Cael out of bounds more with those underhooks). But Cael is an Olympic gold medalist, an elite wrestler capable of adapting to whatever surroundings he's in, whichever opponent he's facing. For example, he got turned by Lee before in par terre, but for this match he adapted and shut it down. If Cael were wrestling now, he would have used different tactics. Yes, it was not the most exciting match, but I've got to admit, those 2 tilts were perfectly timed.
@patrickm7483
@patrickm7483 4 года назад
@@jsl8461 I think that is a fair assessment. It is always tough to force the person that is winning to do something that could put them in a position of losing, and I didn't realize the more lax passivity rules at the time.

Is that David Taylor behind Sanderson's wife at 4:03? David Taylor wasn't even in highschool at this point in time. How can you be that connected that quickly. I mean, I get that David Taylor was a threetime jr. high state champion, but being that close to Sanderson at that age? I just want to know how, and suddenly it makes sense how Taylor was fucking everyone at a ridiculous level before he even got to college.

People are dumb for not wearing headgear. It's one thing to get injured by accident, but to purposely go out without your headgear is asinine. It's like playing football without a helmet.

Frustrating to watch one of the all-time greats run away so much. Unfortunately this is the way he coaches at PSU also. His guys win alot of matches that they don't necessarily deserve to win.
