Cafe Racer (Honda CX 500 by National Custom Tech Motorcycles) 

Thank you for identifying the subtle differences, that, in my opinion, make this a beautiful motorcycle. As always, your presentation choice is very profound and deserving of recognition. The color scheme is different, but, seems to “fit” this project. By the end of the video, I had grown to like the overall beauty of this bike. Thank you for Racer TV, the only choice for the Café enthusiast.

A beautiful bike, with super proportions. Compact. The short rear balances out the compact front, with the right angle. Thank you for explaining how they achieved it with short forks and rear shock. Yes, the paint scheme is a bit garish, but does pay homage to Honda Racing, so very nice touch. I think their builds show ingenuity and professionalism. Thank you once again for presenting.

Não sei se vou conseguir explicar direito, mas oque mais gostei nessa Cafe Racer foi a linha paralela (ou quase) entre a suspensão dianteira e as duas barras que dão suporte ao acento. To Thomas, the school of thought that RacerTV so eloquently articulates and that many of us adhere to is that the quintessential cafe racer styling is a minimalist approach where the motor is highlighted and the rest of the bike (other than perhaps the wheels) fall into an important but less obvious background. Of course, it comes down to personal taste and all should be respected, but considering the above approach, the CX500 is an ideal bike for a cafe project due to the absence of frame under the engine, etc.

closing in on 200k.... I remember the first 50k and said I was looking forward to 100k.... all well deserved.

An interesting project, where the small details are the ones that make the difference, the CX 500 is a motorbike that is having many rebirths and this is one that you have to pay close attention to. I can only say, I like it.

I have to agree with you racer tv, the color combination is not my favorite but it looks so good. The red seat looks amazing. Thanks for the tip at the end of the video, I am trying to build my own cafe racer and hopefully one day it will look as good as this one.

Caro amigo, obrigado por nos trazer mais uma belissima moto. Eu achei o esquema de cor "moderno" demais para uma Cafe Racer, ele me lembrou, à primeira vista, as motos carenadas de alto desempenho. Para meu gosto, não chega a desagradar, mas também não se destaca. O que me chamou a atenção, e você, com seu talento, destacou no video, foi a "postura" da moto. Dei uma rapidissima olhada em outras Hondas CX customizadas e não achei moto tão "reta", revelando um acerto muito bom entre suspensões dianteria e traseira. Pena que no Brasil esse modelo de Honda 500 não tenha sido comercializado. Me parece ser uma moto propícia para customizações. Um grande abraço!!!

Glad your still doing videos! I been thinking about taking some motorcycle mechanic classes, here in Colorado Springs, if there are any. You got me into love for older bikes! Not sure if I will find some classes, but maybe I will just buy a cheap old bike and tinker. Also want to learn how to work on electric bikes, but I am mathematically weak, and have no engineering knowledge :( d

Absolutely stunning visual effect. The seat, rear cowl and paint are amazing. The engine is much less amazing. The 650 in your personal bike is MUCH better.

very nice lines, it looks purposeful. Yes the colours are more radical than their previous work but it suits this build for sure. However while the exhaust has great routing the welded joints are a bit off putting to me. Thank you RacerTV.

Apesar do pouco material ilustrativo p/ esse vídeo, novamente o excelente review e apresentação enriquecem tudo.. parabéns, meu caro. Mas gostaria de acrescentar algo que me chamou a atenção: Vendo o portfólio do construtor, notei uma característica que muito me agrada.. a devida atenção ao escape: Parece ser uma tendência moderna os escapes extremamente discretos e minimalistas em projetos CR, para mim um imperdoável desperdício de incremento ao design. Não digo nada dos projetos que são realmente fiéis aos anos 50/60 mas vejo sempre projetos com diversos elementos modernos seguindo insistentemente essa linha. Já esses austríacos capricham em escapes racing p/ suas criações, quando o projeto é adequado à eles, claro.. e veja o porte arrojado que as CRs adquirem com vistosos escapes esportivos. Outra coisa se tornando comum é a rabeta excessivamente reduzida, e com isso quero dizer quando ela assume um tamanho "desproporcional".. mas também isso é subjetivo e vinculado à gosto pessoal e, se tem um único detalhe que eu mudaria no projeto de hoje, é justamente isso. Fiquei apenas com uma dúvida em relação ao tanque de combustível, se é o original, mas pelo jeito é, do contrário você falaria. No mais, é como você disse: nem mesmo o padrão de cores é capaz de abalar esse projeto rs.. Grande abraço.

As usual, you and I have seen eye to eye on most CX500's ! I know you are doing a CX project yourself, and wondering how it is progressing ? Would you, or anyone else know of any tried and true performance upgrades for the CX500 engine ?

Might not be my first choice, but may be the tire warmers that are making it look a bit clownish for my liking ! First impressions you know ! Then, it may be running right after a cold start, but sounds like it is stumbling just a little as a result.

I have an opportunity right now to buy an 81 Honda CX Custom with 33k miles on it sitting in a barn. It needs some love to get running but nothing too major I don’t think. How much would it cost to transform it into a cafe racer approximately?👊😎

This bike is for sure very well done, but is starting to resemble a show bike which is not at all what café racers were all about. Tire warmers? Café racers were all about going fast to the next caf with the local lads. Most were built by amateurs on a tight budget. Most were built in rebellion against the " corporate Suits". The style was to emulate the moto GP bikes of the day. So, although this is a fantastic bike, it is starting to stray a bit from its roots. Lets see some actual home built caf bikes

In Indonesia motorcycles above 250cc got high taxes as considered luxury. More of bike here is sold on 150 or 250. I got myself 2004 Honda GL200 as I cannot afford to get 250 class motor sport like Honda CBR 250 or Yamaha R25, above that class that, I’m not even dare to thinking about. I’m thinking to build a caferacer from my honda gl200 but saw some comment on youtube, a small caferacer is a joke, not powerful and no point at all. Motorcycle in Indonesia is not only a hobby, but neccecity.

Nice try but the motor is bulky and ugly in shape and dominates the bike. The rest of it looks like minor appendages to the motor. Given the no doubt very expensive resources thrown at it I would be far less than happy with the project.
