I was a huge fan fan from back when I first heard him in 92-93..... But none of his projects ever really met expectations... None of his albums were all that.....and it's a shame cause this dude was/is straight nasty
@@jackzimmermann6823 hope you have seen the short film. you have too!! Shia labeouf directed a peace of art!!!! much watch if your a cudi fan and PLEASE checked out cage music happy cudi put on artist that he enjoys like cage on his album. Cudi helped cage out a lot and so did cage
cage was the reason i started rapping, i was about 7 years old and heard Movies for the blind. Now that i think about it, it probably fucked my head somehow
EASTERN CONFERENCE CREW, CAGE, SMUT PEDDLERS, MR EON , DJ MIGHTY MI, WAS ONE OF THE BEST HIP HOP IN THE RAP PLANET and history i listen their music 20 YEARS AFTER AS IT WAS A NEW MUSIC EACH TIMES IT S A PURE PLEASURE !
I love you Chris. You helped me a lot during my adolescent years. You will always be my favorite lyricist, and your work on “Among the Sleep”, is my favorite song to listen to, eyes closed and receptive.
Movies for the Blind helped me through a lot of messed up stuff! Not so keen on his new stuff - or anything after Hell's Winter but he'll always have my respect
Great Video. THX @thebeeshine videos! I‘m a huge Cage fan since the late 1990ies. Even had the chance to see & hear him perform live w/ the high&mighty @ Frankfurt/Main, Germany in ca. 2002. Much Love from Regensburg / Bavaria, Frank
Thank you man, for keeping me here, today see through to the art in the darkness, the gnosis in my psychosis, and channeling your pain to show me how to channel mine and having something, someone to know could make something so beautiful and rare outta my tragedy if I can someone dive into and embrace it. You probably saved more lives in New York then every psychiatrist combined but forsure one in St. Louis.
i'm not ashamed at all to say that i started crying when Cage was talking about showing his mom his album, and her not getting it or supporting him. all a kid wants to do is make their parents proud, and that's the reaction he gets? that is so fucking fucked up to think that an underground legend as talented as Cage couldn't even get love for his music from his own mother. i can't fucking stand how fucked up some people can be, especially when it's your parents, the people who are supposed to be the most loving and supporting. for Cage to have overcome his horrible upbringing with the issues with his mom and dad, and his torturous stay at a mental hospital, and his drug addictions, and all those fucking pieces of shit who ever doubted him and his abilities, makes him one of the most inspirational human beings ever to me. i fucking love Cage, all his albums express where he's at in life, and even if some people don't like him or some of the directions he's went with his music, he's still a true artist and one of the best rappers of all time! the illest 4 letter word is still CAGE
This interview is golden. Hearing the answers to all these questions coming straight from him. Thanks. Lamb of nothing, Cursed, Jakobz ladder, Agent orange, Suicidal failure, I always go back to these and get the chills every time. Happy Cage is with us and doing what he loves.
Depart From Me is the first Cage album I ever heard. I had to buy it from looking at the album cover. It hit me, man, I loved the water color and imagery with the title "Depart From Me" So I played it and looked up his mental health history, then showed his music to all my friends. Back when he wasn't across the board on underground, really. So glad he's still healthy and writing godly stuff. Dude won't lose it. Bet.
Say what you will but Cage was born to spit on dope beats. Movies for the Blind is a classic. Ask Cage to rhyme to a dope ass beat these days and he will kill it with no probs... Its just to bad he's not into anymore of that Boom Bap which ironcially is on its last limb.
During the time that I was trying to get connected in the game making music this dude was one among many who ignored me but even with that being said, he has always been one of my favorite hip hop artists; i think he was slept on more than he should've been. Loved his style, diversity, approach; His work was consistently of quality; think he should've been as big as EM, but that's how the game works. Cage was lucky for the Benito and Pete Nice hook up; it also didn't hurt that he was in NY.
Let’s all be real, Eminem was over rated. Cages style was rawer and had more substance as well. Honestly cage was one of the originators. One of his first tracks I ever heard was on a cassette from 1985 I’m pretty sure you can still find it here on RU-vid.. People try saying cage was influenced by Redman, but if anything redman was influenced by Cage. it was the other way around. Red mans first album wasn’t until 1992. Cage was releasing music around the same time as BIG daddy Kane, and KRS ONE.
Crazy to think this dude spoke with a heavy urban New York accent and said n!gga all the time. I'm guessing most people that only heard him back then assumed he was black
I started listening to alot of X, but Cage introduced me to rap, and when I learned his story I respected him alot more , I'll forever worship Alex...see you at the Korova milk bar
god damn, cage has been the artist to express my soul since i was 12 years old, sadly. He's my god damn SOUL-ARTIST/ SOUL-RAPPER. When I was 15 I went to a rehab for a month long program and they let us make pottery mugs. It was funny, people would make cups for their moms as a sorry present for stealing and selling all their jewelry, while I was painting the weatherman logo and cage's lyrics on my cups. It's honestly how I got through that period of my life. His music saved me. No matter what style of music he produces I dont think I'll ever be one to shy away from Chris Palko in anyway.
Dudes a legend, he invented this crazy rap style before any of these fake asses. I respect that you can vibe to his music, Cage is so dope, and I respect anything he says, and Im so glad he gave his influences in this interview, It disappoints me the lack of credentials hes been given, hes always spoke his mind,a n put his expressions in lyrics. To be real he was the first dope White rapper, an came from NY.
@@nobody3888 nah he didnt. what crazy rap style? Also how are people fake for doing a similar style? you realize you cant copy right freedom of expression you clown
MF DOOM, canibus, cage 9 Nicholas are my favourite MCs by far. People thought I was weird when I was listening to your songs back in high school but it helped me through a lot. Mad respect man
@@humanityisevil9244 "I bought cages tape opened it and dubbed over it." - eminem role model. also the ken kaniff skit '99 - "who is this, cage?" i think theres more but those the two that come to mind off slim shady lp
I had a friend from New Jersey and he used to spend the summer in Chicago with his dad. I met him in 1998 and he had a bunch of tapes of the Stretch and Bobbito show he recorded off the radio. One of them had Radiohead on it, and another one had Agent Orange. Amongst a bunch of other great stuff. I heard Suicidal Failure on college radio a year later along with 54. Then Smut Peddlers came out and it was around then I found a Cage tape in an underground record store. I don’t think it even had an album title or anything, just a tape with a light blue sticker on each side with the track listings. I think that’s the tape Eminem talked about when he said “bought Cages tape, opened it and dubbed over it”. It had that “Illest four letter word in the world is Cage” Eminem diss track. It was a total non beef though. Seemed more like provoked by other people than anything else.
It cant be understated the influence that 3rd Bass has had on hiphop. They were not only the first widely respected and accepted White Hiphop groups that could actually spit, both MCSerch and Pete Nice sparked the careers off of some of the greatest underground spitters ever. Cage, Non Phixion, Necro, etc. and then all the people they in turn influenced and not to even mention Nas and others. I sill listen to Serch's solo album somewhat regularly too.
@@anantambisht4895 supposedly when em was touring with high n mighty in europe for the sslp tour they tried to get cage and eminem to squash the beef and have a battle but cage was trippin on pcp its not documented cuz europe was strict about piracy. so video cameras were not allowed. notice any european eminem content is audio only.like when he performed watcher with dre and sayin nigga during adlibs eminem didnt know he was being audio recorded regardless i like both eminem and cage along with non phixion and high and mighty milo and necro are great producers
Dude was a huge influence to everybody in the underground through the 90s 00s ... rgs . Cage always been one of the best writers in thr game... why you think EMINEM went for him out of everybody??!!! Cage was his only competition. So I'm assuming he had alot todo with Cage never getting to the level he deserved... Cage just one of millions though that have dealt with gatekeeping in the rap game... I personally have met and freestyles with MANY dope rappers over there years , rappers who all were considered next up ... and never went anywhere. But it wasn't there fault bc the entire game is rigged.
One of the best Rapper Mc ever Go Listen movies for the the blind nighthawks with camutao (rip) leakbrothers Crew with tame one .............. and so one and so one evenn slim shady Bit a lil bit style Cage is king
