I've been doing that second part for a while, some very good details on removing the space that I've not been doing. There's also a good baseball choke that you can do if the arm remains in and you don't feel set up for the americana (or if you just prefer chokes). With your left hand holding the lapel a little looser bring your right inside the arm, get the baseball grip and switch your hips to pass and then rotate to squeeze it in.
This works really good, the very first time I tried it I got the choke. I haven't been able to catch the arm yet cuz it seems as soon as I try to wrap the lapel over the arm everyone's natural reaction is to hurry up and pull the hand out. Eventually someone's gonna leave the hand in in fear of being choked though and I'll get the arm soon enough.

This is just a couple of techniques that use the Gi, he is pretty accomplished in no gi as well, there are plenty of options from the half guard in no gi too.
I tried this on class today but I forgot the technique while doing it as the great white belt I am 😂 anyways, I was able to transition to mount and finish from there!
Awesome.... usually when I am taking the Gi the guy try to hold my hand... I pass my arm from out side and grab my lapel ... hand on his hand and arm bar.... somethimes they dont try to defend the lapel... now I know what to do with it :) Thanks Caio
It's working very well for me, but my training partners are starting to develop some defenses. I would like to learn more moves to use after the wrist control with the lapel, so I can have more options for my half guard finishes.

Caio would be such a beast if he did a couple cycles! He's more superior technically than guys like Bruno and Guilherme. I can respect that he wanna stay natural, but at the same time it bugs me when guys don't reach their full potential!
Ok, ignoring the gay terminology, why do you think gi is lame? I like training both, but if I were to choose one I would choose gi bcs it teaches fundamentals really well
I am not a fan of lapel submissions they seem so cheap. also seem unrealistic. just frustrating in general I don't I'll ever use one unless the other guys start using a bunch
