Smart, loyal, and full of life. They are wonderful dogs (but you need to train them properly...). I've had one for 10 years and my family has had them for over 30 years. Loved every single one!
aww, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss...I know how hard it is. I lost a little one a few years ago who was 13 years old...I cried and cried for weeks, but now, even though I miss him just as much as before, thinking of him gives me such happy memories. I know time will do the same for you!
What's not to love? Even when they don't listen and are VERY stubborn they are so funny you cant stay mad at them. My cairn is the best and my own personal clown. LOVE MY CRAZY BUG!!!
I absoulutely fell in love with this breed! My Cairn is called Big Ben and I guess he's a typicall example for this breed: He's very very funny and intelligent and he loves chasing the tennis ball ;) I love him so much and I can't even imagin a life without a Cairn - they're an amzing breed!!
I had the pleasure of knowing my dog "roby" for 8 years. He was a cairn terrier and was the most gentle, loving dog I ever had. Unfortunetly he became very ill (kidney problems) and had to be put down. I have lost one of my dearest friends. RIP baby boy
I put my Cairn in obedience classes starting at three months, but even before that, I house broke her by myself. I only took mine to a total of 2 obedience classes, each 6 weeks long. Cairns (any terrier, really) will always retain a little stubborness, but the main point is that they are intelligent, and thus, they LOVE learning. Anything that keeps them using their minds makes them happy. Mine does come when called, unless she's in trouble, then I make her sit/stay and I go get her.
all the way! same here but im 12 and i hav a carin and she is obedient, loving to walk and play, and most of all she is my favorite dog and my cat is awesome. they love to play and they get along
I agree, I get so tired of people claiming that a dog is too stubborn or disobedient as an excuse for poor training and ownership. I did 2 obedience classes with my Josie and she will always have that Cairn independent streak, but she's still very well minded and loves to train and learn.
we think that our dog is part cairn terrier because she really looks like one except her size. she used to be really adventurous and runaway all the time. but now she is REALLY old (about 14/15) so she just sleeps all day. but she is the most cuddley dog i have met.
I agree with everything she said except the "not good w/ kids under 10" comment. We have a Cairn Terrier and he is DELIGHTFUL and uber patient w/ our two very young children.
Fellow Cairn owner.. well, correction.. we don't own anyone... we belong to her! Love the video. My Annie is awesome. Can't go a day without laughing, it is always something. I have more pictures and videos of her then i do of my children.. they are 20 & 17 yrs old, and laugh at there crazy mom and her side kick!! She is a therapy dig at children's hospital. And geriatric unit. She is amazing at making people happy!
I have a Cairn and live in an apartment. They're great. She's wrong when she says they're not obedient. Notice that earlier she said they're very intelligent. She's right. That's why they respond great to training! They also love to train and learn because it keeps them using they're brain. My Josie is very obedient. She only sheds a little, and since the hairs are course, they're easy to find and pick up. I do bathe mine, though, about every two weeks. It keeps the coat healthy.
All Cairns have an independent streak that can't be taken away from them, but with the proper training, they can still have a great sense for who's boss, and be respectful of that. At least my Josie does.
Oh, tennis balls, don't even get me started. My husband played tennis in high school, so we have an endless supply, and Josie thinks they all belong to her. There can even be 5 on the floor and she starts playing with one and if you throw a different one, she knows that's not the right one. What's the difference??!! She's so funny-- aren't Cairns the absolute best??
I have a cairn named nico and he's the most sweetest thing ever!! To have an obedient cairn you have to start training early. At least that's what worked for me.
I have a cairn and i live him to death! They have. Great personalities and so loveable he gives us so much love and he was the best thing i bought ever! Love u scruffy-3
My dog is a cairn terrier and her name is lucy, what i like about this breed is they all have thier own personality my dog lucy is very loyal and kind, she doesn't always listen when i say "come here lucy" but thats when we are outside because she is so adventours and she likes to chase after rabbits but she doesnt plan on killing one, i know that because she almost got a rabbit but instead of attacking it she turned around she is so funny and she is a little confident dog i love her! >.
I agree with this! I've had my Cairn for 3 years, now, and a niece (now 6) and nephew (almost 2). My Cairn may sometimes get annoyed by her hair or tail being pulled, but she's not aggressive. Cairns are actually very respectful of small children, and in fact was very protective of my nephew when he was a newborn. They get a sense that babies are tender and won't tolerate any nonsense around them. As long as ANY dog knows it's not okay to be aggressive to children, they won't be!
Sounds like my cairn is typical, stubborn is a nice word to describe him. If he doesn't want to come when you call him, he won't. He'll stay just out of reach or looks at you and takes off. Still a very nice dog though, he just marches to his own tune I guess. Also have an English bulldog, she will come running when you call, and is not at all fickle.there's also no doubt that she loves us, can't mistake that look.. Gotta love those dogs!
i have 2 cairn terriors they look like little wolfs ones name is chicle spanish for bubble gum i named him that because he always walks with me everywhere and hes very loyal to me there the absolute best
I own a delightful Cairn Terrier named Holly, although I call her Bumpkin. its true that they have no dander and that they look at you when you give them a command like 'come' that says "im not sure i want to do that right now..." very cute. the guy singing is weird.
...I have a wheaten Cairn that we rescued, he is the most loveable little guy, he thinks he is just a short furry human. Can't imagine not having this little bundle of pure love in my life.
Our cairn terrier is very energetic. Once, we left the house for about 20 minutes, and somehow she got to her Pedigree. She ripped it all up. But we love her! If you want to see her, go to my channel.
My grandma had a cairn terrier named Cassie. It got almost 15 years old. Poor dog got brain issues and was better off dead. During her last years she would do nothing but sleep and eat and take walks outside :)
When most people hear the word terrier, they picture Toto, the Cairn Terrier in The Wizard of Oz -- and rightfully so, because this sturdy little dog breed is everything a terrier was designed to be: strong, hardy, up on his toes, confident, plucky, and spirited.
@Azurithe hi ^^ i have a cairn terrier, hes name is Spike. They are so cute, and they are easy to train, but as they said in this show they are a bit stubborn. My dog is not aggresive, that axtaly depends on the dogs "master". And i think the cairn terrier is the right dog for you ^^
Blinds, hm? That's strange. I think all dogs form fears of certain things. Josie's okay with the blinds, but she hates the vacuum cleaner (typical, I think) and any form of plastic bag, which makes it fun when it's time to go potty outside and I bring a pick-up bag with me. She's really only afraid when it's being shaken and making that crinkly noise. Changing the bag in the trash is like terror for her, and no matter what, I can't seem to make her understand that they're okay.
Another thing (I ran out of characters) each dog is different with the cuddle-factor, and I've heard this varies most from males to females. My Josie isn't a lap-dog, but she does love to curl up right next to my legs on the couch and against either mine or my husband's back in bed. They cuddle, but on their own terms. I've seen others that are lap-dogs, though. It just depends on the dog.
i think that might be a good thing because then she probably wont try and get things out of the bin which can be really gross and annoying because you always have to clean it up.
im going to get a cairn terrier but i hav some questions r they cute??? r thet easy to train???im not good with aggresive dogs????? i want a sweet dog that will follow me everywhere and a good running partner. is the cairn terrier right for me???if u dont think so plz give me some other ideas of dogs that would be good
One of two antique prints from our studio. What kind of dog do we have here? I put the question out to my serious dog breed experts and got Norwich, Cairn and Mixed Terrier. HELP! Here is the first of two... www.etsy.com/listing/233285984/norwich-cairn-or-mixed-terrier-large
I know, I disagree with that! It's not that mine gets utterly filthy (since she lives indoors) but even just a walk outside makes her have that dog sweat smell, and any vet will tell you that regular baths (about every 2 weeks for Cairns) is better for their coat and skin. Sheesh... some people.
@dirtybathproductions Dogs don't behave bad because they are bad. It's because of you and your family. So it's your fault, and not the dogs fault. Cairns are very demanding dogs, and you were simply not able to live up to its demands.
i have adog that looks a lot like this, but he has a curved tail and a more muscular build. so i know its not a cairn terrier. does anyone have any ideas on what it might be?
Aww nice video! :) My cairn is great with my baby cousins :o they love her and she's so gentle with them! I'm looking to breed her, her name's Sprite, but I need a male! I live in Scotland and would appreciate a little help finding the right one? :) Have a look at my latest video on her and if you're interested, please contact me! :) thank you
I need HELP seriously My mom want to give up our dog I want him to go to a good Home and do not want to take him to a shelter Hes 3 yrs old cute not agrresive good arnd kids hes neutered hes a cairn terrier
I love my cairn terrier! Please check out Maggie, the Cairn, in submissions by naillil9, especially "The Spectacular Maggie and the Wonder-ball! At the Farm" and "Cairn Tennis Ball Madness!!!"
I'm thinking of adopting on of those from paws and naming it toto from wizard of oz but I heard they r not great pets and there aggressive and very active and if u baby it like dress it up it will get more aggressive beacaue it thinks they own u and also they are made for hunting things and kill rats squirrels and rabbits is this stuff all true?
my carien terrier is very active and enjoys makeing messes and jumping on ppl and humping there legs! O_O his name is tiko and i love him :) he my baby
@winracso If you take your dog for a nice walk before you leave for work, and then get someone to come in in the middle of the day and throw the ball to your terrier about a thousand times, your dog should be fine.
I have one she's so cute and loves attention but she stinks pretty bad anybody know a good remedy for a stinky puppy?? I've tried to give her baths but she just winds up stinking again in a week or two.
This video misrepresents Cairns. There is absolutely no call for Cairns to be as noisy , yappy as the dogs shown here. I have always had Cairns and they are disciplined not to bark constantly. I really resent the image this video presents about how yappy these undisciplined Cairns are. Also, my Cairns get along fine with young children.
@thefunny718 some of it is, mainly that thry were bred for farmers. to kill and chase off small rodents. if a cairn sees one of those rodents he was bred to hunt he will go.after it but ive never had diffiiculty getting mine back. he listens fairly well when i call. you could.dress them up and baby them thats more.how well you train them as. opposed to the breed
@chick4chocolate oh that is a riot! my cairn does that with the thread of the tennis ball too! Check it out on my channel, naillil9, where I have several Maggie videos, but especially: cairn tennis ball madness!!!
Thefunny718. Maybe not the dog for you. Not aggressive at all.!!! Absolutely the opposite. Their life revolves around pleasing humans!!! Must give then a job and active or yes they will find entertainment -- the terrier breed in general is independent and loving. Please Don't get a dog because of what you see on TV. (They are actors!) Research the characteristics and see if that best suits your lifestyle. But awesome job adopting.. too many wonderful pups out there needing loving safe homes...
check out my dog viseos.i have a little blond lhasa mix, possible part Maltese and maybe a little cairn in her.see for yourself.her personality is similar,.
