We set off for a bold 3 day trip into an artic world.
We accessed the Scottish avalanche information service www.sais.gov.uk/ but things were to change and so must our plans.
Loan of the inreach mini 2 was from gpstraining.co.uk/ excellent people who do just not sell you a device, they show you in depth how to use it. loads of stuff on their youtube channel too! / @ukgpstraining
WARNING do not venture out in winter onto the cairngorm plateau without appropriate experience.
I am raising funds to buy an emergency beacon to help keep myself and the youngsters including Scouts I take out safe. Thanks! www.buymeacoffee.com/fellmandave

Thank you for the video. The Cairngorms are a different level of the Fells of northern England. Several years ago there was 9 meters of snow, between MacDhui and Ben A'an, it finally disappeared around early July

Great challenge. To be honest, if you were going to climb Cairn Lochan, and then take your full packs over Cairngorm, I'd have struck camp and gone over Cairn Lochan with the full packs and come down the path via Miadan Craig an Leth-choin, between Cairn Lochan and Lurcher's Crag. It's a nicer descent than the one down by all the ski centre equipment, and would have saved a second trudge over Cairngorm.

Aye taking the daughters, no chance for mine just now either. We live in hope. But tentfish cannot swim in water and has evolved to live only in tent fug, going into stasis between trips.

Nice video, guys. It is some years ago, when I visited the Cairngorms including Ben Macduin (in winter). Here's a little tip: If you want to melt snow, always put some water in the pot. Then it goes faster and you don't use as much fuel.

Days well lived Dave. Making memories. How did the KUIU stand up to the Cairngorms?
@Fellmandave1
@Fellmandave1 Год назад
Hi Paul, really good, but its faults were also saved by its strengths. in other words a lot of the snow inside the fly we experienced was getting blown in through the roof vents (which dont have mesh on of course) but the deep bathtub ground sheet and the dwr coating on the inner stopped the moisture getting through. I am going to get mesh put on those vents! I always though it was problem from the perspective of insects, but did not think it would be quite so bad in terms of snow. thanks for commenting Paul.
@paulmortal7611
@paulmortal7611 Год назад
@@Fellmandave1 Thanks for getting back to me Dave. Yes those vents are definitely susceptible to insects and snow. Mesh sounds like a great idea. I guess the size of the storm star also means that a lot of gear has to be stored in the vestibules too. Stay well and keep making great memories and videos. Cheers.
@richardwaudby7338
@richardwaudby7338 Год назад
Hi Dave what’s your thoughts on 2 of you in the storm star please? Also I’m 6’1 you think be any issues with the storm star length for me?
@Fellmandave1
@Fellmandave1 Год назад
Hi Richard, with 140cm at the head end it's fine. I am 6'1" and Josh is 6'2". Space wise the only criticism is that the inner tent door is a bit porthole like. But that adds to weather protection.
@richardwaudby7338
@richardwaudby7338 Год назад
@@Fellmandave1 That’s good to know thank you. They look pretty storm worthy. Do they pack up to a smallish lump? The tent bag they come with looks pretty big. Camped in winter around the area this video was filmed a few times. Your film captures it well. Very beautiful even in extreme wind and snow.
@Fellmandave1
@Fellmandave1 Год назад
@richardwaudby7338 definitely not a smallish lump Richard. The reinforced pole sleeves add to the bulk. But you know how it is, all are a compromise.
